Surprised I haven't seen this posted already cause I know there are some Lunar fans on the board, and there are people who surf gamesarefun.com. But on to the linkage

Killer app for the DS? Maybe.

It's been known for a long time but in the absence of any real information beyond the franchise name there hasn't been much to talk about. It could just be another iteration of Eternal blue to folloup the remake of the first Lunar on GBA. Impossible to say yet, like so many vaguely announced DS games.

Search turned up refferances to Lunar for DS allthe way back to november, possibly further.

Yah! I didn't see any of the previous posts so thanks! I hope this does come out because the DS is probably going to be as sparse, RPG wise, as the Gamecube is.

IMO DS will get a crap load of RPG. With two screens it just makes sense. /wishfull thinking

Working Designs has been the only publisher for the Lunar franchise in the US, and GameArts owns the rights. How Ubisoft got involved is beyond me.
Originally, there was a game titled "Lunar" for the DS being developed by Marvelous Arts. I would not be surprised to see this shot down.

Ubisoft published Lunar Legend for the GBA, so I'm guessing this game is real. Worknig Designs did nothing with Lunar Legend.

I hope it's not a new style rpg, 3d, time based battles etc. I like the old school, 2d, slow, turn based ones.

I heard something like that. I also heard that they picked up the Ogre Battle license a while back. Haven't heard anything about it since.

Ubisoft has already published the GBA remake of Lunar 1, so this is no surprise. Working Designs is a bit cash deficient so they probably won't go anywhere near a cartridge based platform anymore. I don't think they've done a mask ROM product since the Turbo-Grafx days.

I really hope that it is a new Lunar game and it isn't just a code name for some other project.

Ubisoft has already published the GBA remake of Lunar 1
And it was absolutely god-awful. Reminding me of that game makes me actually hope this new one ends up being just a rumor.

Why didn't anyone mention that this was confirmed? Lunar-NET contacted UbiSoft, who promptly confirmed that Lunar: Genesis for the Nintendo DS (due for US release in Q2 '05) is indeed a game from Game Arts' Lunar RPG series.

Indeed. I can confirm that this is a Lunar RPG game, not some other game with Lunar in the title.

I can't tell whether you're being serious or sarcastic.
Either way, in about a month and a half, it's E3, and we'll find out for certain. The UbiSoft release list for the 05-06 fiscal year included Lunar: Genesis as a Q2 title, though that timeframe may slip to late 05, early 06.

Although I cannot wait for this one, I wish I could have a (home console) sequal to Lunar 1 & 2.

If it's made to take advantage of the DS in any way, it'd almost have to stay exclusive.

June 27? In the US? No way...that must be jumping the gun.
Oh, and now that this thread has been bumped...
Isnt gamearts a part of Square Enix now?No. Square-Enix is publishing Game Arts' Grandia III, but Game Arts is still an independant company. They have not been bought by anyone.
Also, there was a reply to the above question...
I heard something like that. I also heard that they picked up the Ogre Battle license a while back. Haven't heard anything about it since.
Basically, Square aquired Quest, the developer of Ogre Battle, back in 2000. But the rights to the Ogre Battle/Tactics Ogre series still lay with Atlus, if I'm not mistaken (Atlus published Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis in 2002).
Also, to all you people who won't believe anything unless IGN or Gamespot says it:
http://ds.ign.com/objects/722/722763.html
But seriously, IGN aren't the official keepers of all videogame knowledge, ya know.

Oops, I slipped there.
Anyway, I just felt that July 27 seems pretty early, given that that means that the game would be out in just over 4 months from today.
I don't have too much hope that a game which hasn't had any sort of unveiling at all will manage to be released in Japan, and then translated and released in the US within 4 months.
That would probably be a bad thing for the game, actually...it needs more time, after being unveiled, to gather hype.

I think it's closer to 3 months. I feel like the date would slip for sure, but if it doesn't, more power to them.

That was because the previous titles were published by Working Designs. WD, IMO, sucks. Their translations are not particularly good, and they take forever to get released.
Coming from Ubi Soft is promising. With Lunar Legends and Grandia 2 (the only two RPGs I can think of that Ubi did off hand), they had a surprisingly fast turn around time and were of decent quality. Also, while it seems unlikely that it would release here with 4 months of turn around time, it certainly seems feasible; other huge RPGs, such as Final Fantasy 8-10, were translated and released in a mere 6 months.
No. Square-Enix is publishing Game Arts' Grandia III, but Game Arts is still an independant company. They have not been bought by anyone.
This is true, but, a while back, Enix and Game Arts signed a contract which had Enix publish Game Arts titles. I don't know for how long, but, prior to this agreement with Enix, all Game Arts titles were published by Kadowaka Shoten in Japan.
Also, it is unknown if this title is even developed first hand by Game Arts. In last October's DS conference, Nintendo released a list of games, one of which was "Lunar" by Marvelous.
Time for a bump. If any of you frequent www.lunar-net.com (which I do, of course) you would have seen the poll they had running. It was to name the upcoming Lunar title! This will be a prequel to Lunar 1 & 2, 1000 years before Lunar The Silver Star! I cannot wait. I will be picking up a DS and Lunar for sure....
