View Full Version : how long until people start selling their used PSP's on the trading board?

I give it 3 weeks until we see the first one. People around here expect to see too many titles come out around the launch of a system, that it is bound to happen.
So how long do you guys thing it will be?
and so no one thinks I am biased. I plan on buying both the DS and PSP after a price drop comes out for both (and SONY sures up its hardware)

It may not even take that long. I remember there were people selling/trading their DS's almost right away.
Exactly 14 days after release...

I think the PSP is going to be a little to complicate for handheld gaming...who wants load times when they riding the bus 15 minutes? I find alot of people are going to be displeased a few days after launch...I give it 8 days

I have a feeling that I may unload mine after a weekend...err, loadtimes with a portable system. And I have a feeling that Metal Gear Acid won't be to my liking.

But will it be the fault of attention spans or Sony's marketing/release plans?
I can't see paying $250 for a handheld. Unless you commute or travel a lot, why play games on that tiny screen?

You give the PSP's launch lineup too much credit.
half of it is made up of console ports of games that are really old and can be found in the bargain bin
both launch lineups are extremely weak IMO, and just because you launch with a lot of games does not mean you have a good launch

What's retaliatory about suggesting that hopes are too high?
I don't know how long it'll take, but I'd expect PSPs to hit the trading board within a month.

Some will most likely sell them soon after its release, but I highly doubt it will be anything near what we've seen with the DS.
Due to the dirth in software for the DS, most people have gotten bored with their games.
But since the PSP doesn't look like it will have that problem, I really doubt we'll see a lot of people selling their systems.
My biggest fear is still the durability of the system.

Totally agree, the PSP's launch is worlds stronger than the DS's launch was. The PSP is like a long-term investment, it's an MP3 player, a UMD movie player, a home-brew movie player, a picture view, and a PS2 level portable gaming machine. When the DS launch, it did none of those things, it was a gaming only machine, with one half-decent game, and very little info on upcoming games, which you may say the PSP has, but the DS was a bizzare product that had a lot of people doubting it's stay power. With the PSP it's obvious that there going to be lots of games.

I think the one thing that everyone sort of forgets is that even though some games are console ports or older games (such as Ape Escape or Classic Nes Zelda) is that this is the first time ANY of these games are portable. Not that they are all great and not that everyone wants them but if you told me years ago when I was playing Zelda on my 8-bit Nes that someday I would have a version of the game in the palm of my hands I would call you crazy. The DS gets Mario 64 and the PSP gets Twisted Metal. This is going to happen time and time again. People should stop complaining about this OVER AND OVER AND OVER again. It's getting old.

I am talking about games that just came out and not ones that are older. I have had a lot of the older games on the GBA and do not have a problem with that. What I have a problem with are the games that are exactly like their console cousins, and cost ever more than their console counterparts.

I'm sure the people that sold off their DS's will pick up another one once the good stuff begins coming out. Same goes for the PSP. If their is a game drought, people will get hasty and sell theirs off.

I think the PSP buyer crowd will be made up heavily of the same people who bought an XBOX for one of the following 2 reasons - 1) pretty graphics, 2) piracy capabilities.
And it may succeed in the same line as the XBOX in that it may move many hardware units and take heavy losses.
It'll be unloaded by the same crowd who later unloaded their XBOX after they realized that pretty isnt everything. It will not be unloaded by those of us who only have a PS2 and a Cube.

Are you implying that the Xbox, and the PSP can't have good games because they have good graphics? I'm pretty sure when I was playing Fable, SW:KotOR, Morrowind, Shenmue II, Prince of Persia, Halo, and Ninja Gaiden it was more than just "pretty." I'm quite sure when I'm playing Twisted Metal, Wipeout Pure, Untold Legends, Lumines, and THUG 2 Remix I'll be having fun, and not just because the games are "pretty."

Well put. Not to mention that I own more Xbox games then any other platform, not only because it has some kick-ass exclusive titles, but also 99% of the time for a multi-platform release, the Xbox has the superior version.

I dont think Dr. Mario Kart was only saying the xbox had good graphics, its just thats what drove people to it. Xbox doesnt have the best selection of games in its list but it has some damn good ones. Its too early to be bitching about the game line-up of a system that isnt released yet. We'll see in about a year or so how well the PSP a $250 hand-held will do.

I'm gonna go out on a limb though and draw 3 main parallels and a side point between PSP and XBOX.
1) They are both in their respective realms, the most kickass hardware.
2) They both have high capacity for piracy, which will always draw people to move the hardware (whether or not any software ever gets moved by the same crowd, is another story).
3) selling hardware at a loss to move units (possibly)
Aside) Though its still early in the PSP game, both the PSP and XBOX appear to have a weak RPG library. Though things have been announced, I dont think a single solid turn based (not action) rpg has a release date for the PSP. And yes, I know Xbox has KOTOR, Fable, Morrowind and LOR: Third Age.

They're called PORTS! The system is console-like in its capabilities, so expect the PSP to be included in the cross-platform plans for games. It happens with any console/handheld launch. These ports have minigames, new features, and wireless multiplayer/online to make buying these attractive.

I doubt that man heh, my DS is long gone. It's gonna take at least 5 really good games on the DS and the price of the DS to hit 50 before I even consider buying it again.
Call it what you will but the PSP defiinetly takes these ports to a while new level of multiplayer beyond what we see with the PS2 and other home consoles. That's one of the primary appeals to me.

I was refering to people 'acquiring' movies in order to play them off memory sticks. Movie piracy.
Though maybe with some of the smaller sized games (puzzle games), someone might figure out a way to get a hard drive loader like program on a memory stick.

I imagine we'll see the first CAG PSP trades/sales a week from today (ie, the 28th of March).
That gives time for people to get their system, their games, try it all out, hate it, enjoy Easter, and then sell the next day.

Online play is online play, last I checked. I don't see where the whole "new level" comes in. You seem to still be too focused on the promises of Sony, and, if they had been acheived with the PS2, the PS2 would have a huge HDD that was actually used by more than 2 games and would allow for streaming movies from the web and downloadable game demos. I'll believe that there's a "new level beyond what we see with home consoles" when I see it - right now, it seems like the exact same multiplayer from consoles.

I think the PSP has a pretty good launch line up (better than the DS in the very least). A lot of it is ports, but Lumines, Wipeout, and Twisted Metal should keep it pretty interesting.
I think the people who dump the system first are going to be the ones who looked at it like some kind of "do-everything" system. I rarely bash the PSP, but I believe that the UMDs and memory are a waste.

Seeing the PSP on the trading block dosent have to have anything to do with the launch line up.
People will sell the thing the day they get it just because they bought it to see how it was. They'll sell it to someone here by the 25th and then wait for a price drop to buy their own.

Oh yeah!
I am not sure how piracy is easier for PSP than DS. They are already working on flashcarts, and with a GBA flashcart it can play NES games. As for movies, a portable DVD player, DVD burner, a few software, and some DVDR is a lot cheaper and better in some way.
