Currently the Video Game Discussions forums layout like this:
PS2 Discussion
Xbox Discussion
Gamecube Discussion
Portable Video Games Discussion
PC Games and PC General Discussion
Old School Games Discussion
Video Game Reviews
General Gaming & Industry News
With the next generation of handhelds/consoles rapidly advancing on us, I was thinking of changing the section like so:
Sony Discussion (PS1/PS2/PSP Discussion)
Microsoft Discussion (Xbox/Xbox2 Discussion)
Nintendo Discussion (Gamecube/GBA/DS etc...)
PC Games and PC General Discussion
Old School Games & Other Systems Discussion
Video Game Reviews
General Gaming & Industry News
As you can see, I'm thinking of axing The Portable forum and just using the Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo to talk about current/next generation consoles and handhelds.
Personally, I think its better to have less forums than more, unless the activity is there...
Your thoughts?

That's a pretty good idea cause usually people stick with a company more than a game system type.

I like the plan. It will hopefully cut down on people trashing others' handheld console of choice.

Huzzah! Now I won't have to dredge through all this PSP dreck while browsing for DS info. ;)

What would happen to existing posts?
EDIT: Sounds good to me then!

They would be moved (painfully) to the appropriate forum.

I like it alot actually. Especially since it will (most likely) be done before all the systems are out. Gotta love forward thinking.

I don't agree that axing the portable forum is a good thing. What about cell phones and other handheld devices that you can play games on??
Why is this the only site that can't have a board for each system?? Cramming all things from a company makes things look good on the index, but when you look inside it is a mess with threads about 10 different devices.
Why don't you just make one huge forum about all consoles and downsize even more? :?

I think there's so little discussion about N-Gage, cell phone games, and the like that tacking them onto old school discussion is justified. Also, this takes away the confusion of posting about something like the Nomad. Now it goes in Old School and other Systems, rather than wondering whether to put it into Old School or Portable.

The portable forum as 22K posts while the gamecube has 19K so people are talking about portables.
I liken this to cleaning your room - you can make your room look nice by stuffing everything into one drawer, but when you open that drawer you can't find anything cause it's a mess.

Good idea, you should go with it.
I have no problems with it. Rarely do I venture in anyway... I usually search for specific topics, or just post in the ones on the front page.

Okay, how about this - does phpBB support sub-forums?
Like, can you make a "Nintendo" forum, then within that have sub-forums for Old-School Nintendo and Nintendo Portables?
Then again, that kind of micro-managment may be more of a hassle than it's worth in the end.
