The PSP costs more in the USA then it does in Japan. Why?

I guess Americans aren't the badass cheapasses I always thought they were...

It's also worth noting the PSP's price tag once again: $250 is considerably higher than what the company asked in Japan.

Sweet, another PSP post. I haven't seen any PSP posts lately. I was starting to think that the PSP had been forgotten.

Falling dollar....

Are the PSP's made in the US???

If they're shipped in they have to pay import taxes etc too.

One day you'll actually come up with a decent counter.. one that doesn't make you look like an asshat.. when trying to make me look like an asshat. That wasn't a thread crap, and if I hadn't done it, someone else would have :P

At any rate, there are official PSP topics..

The reason is quite simple. If people are willing to pay more, price it higher. It's that simple :)

I think the farring dorrar might have something to do with it, but there must be other reasons too. I'm thinking either portable gaming is more popular here, or nintendo has a much tighter grip on portable gaming in Japan.

the answer is simple, people are dumb enough to pay so much. why would sony charge any less when theres tons of people that cant wait to give theim their $250?

This is really old.... PSP value packs were priced at around I think 235 US when they came out, or you could buy the PSP at like 189 US. However for the US release they ditched the just psp deal and only gave you the option of buying the value pack. Its not that much more, only a little bit.

There are many different topics that are psp related. You can't have every topic in one thread. That would be quite a messy thread.

Very true, I wish I could be back in the days when I had no life. They are behind me now.

Early adopters are getting the Spiderman 2 UMD, so that evens it up a bit.

More importantly, CAGs who got in on the TRU/EB combo deal are getting for a hell of a lot less. My PSP, EB warranty, and three games only cost me about $100.

I agree. I went to EB today to put some money on my Edge card, and I talked to the manager. He had sold 40 by noon, and he said he would sell another 30 by tonight's closing.

The only way I would've picked one up at that price was if I had got in on the TRU trading and such...

Anyone know how much it actually costs in Japan? Im going there in a couple weeks and if it is "signifigantly" less, I might pick one up.

No one seems to be paying attention to me though :-p not trying to be mean, its easy to miss a post. Oh and if you buy in japan you'll lose the ability to play US movies cause UMD movies are region encoded.

Region encoding - another attack on capitalism.

Might as well just pay 250 here then... Oh well.
