They MADE you buy a warranty? If it is the service replacement plan, then it probably isn't a bad thing. How much did they MAKE you pay?

note: I don't have thug 2 for the console version, which is why I got the psp one.

Well the guy convinced me to buy a replacement plan for 40 bucks. I usually don't buy plans because I am careful with my systems and they don't usually break. But it sounds like this PSP could break easily. Do you guys think that they would make me return the Spiderman 2 UMD also?

I'm just in awe how Sony can be selling so many systems and I've heard nothing but complaints about how shoddy it is...

It's not a bad idea to get the warranty on a launch system.
2. Are dead pixels really a huge problem?
Mine doesn't have any. It's hard to really tell how widespread the problem is because you can't trust all the people here who say the do/say they don't.
3. What are the BEST games on the PSP in your opinion?
I like Dynasty Warriors 4 and Lumines.

I'm sure if you decide that the warrenty isn't worth your $40 you can go back and return the warrenty. if nothing else just say you were bullied/hustled into it and you were mad about that. (I wouldn't blame, you, that's the cost of a whole additional game, and if your system is fine now after opening odds are any problems it has in the future may not be the kind that would be covered anyway)
ps. i have a teeny bit of dead pixels in the corner of mine...makes me sad...but i'm still happy with the system and my games.

I guess I should have said that I'm in awe of the fact that Sony has no plans to repair/exchange units with dead pixels.

I'm sad to see that so many CAGs have had crappy luck with these. Mine is beautiful, and I absolutely love it.

yeah me too. i think its amazing if i can be cliche as possible. i was just playing lumines. it is my favorite game thus far, aside from the hockey, which really isnt bad and twisted metal is so visually impressive. i get motion sickness this thing moves so fast.
i would keep the warrenty, you never know what can happen, im going today i think to comp usa to get one.

1. Is the PSP really fragile? BB made me buy a two year warranty and I might have made a mistake. (GBA SP has no problems till this day)
2. Are dead pixels really a huge problem?
3. What are the BEST games on the PSP in your opinion?
1) I don't think the PSP is that fragile. If you drop it it might break, but if you drop any electronic item it might break. I'm actually surprised at how heavy the PSP. Don't get me wrong I don't mean it's difficult to hold for a long period of time...it just feels very solid and dense.
2) I bought two PSP's and will probably take one back but I checked the screens on both. The one I'm keeping has 1 pixel that I notice every once in a while on dark screens. It's in the top right hand corner. I was surprised at how small the actual pixels are. This particular pixel is usually white on the all black screen and it's really it hard to notice it. That said if you have several of these, I can see it being easily noticable if there's like 5 or 6. There's really three types of defective pixels: dead, stuck on color, and ones that fade in and out. The people complaining a lot have a lot of the dead and stuck on color pixels and they should complain. If you do an extensive test you'll find some fading in and out ones, but during a game or a movie you will NEVER even notice these. One of my PSPs had zero dead, one stuck, and about 7-8 faders and the other had zero dead, zero stuck, and about 3-4 faders. I consider myself pretty lucky and the screen looks beautiful on these.
3) I played Wipeout Pure briefly, not enough to give an opinion on it. I plan on swapping Twisted Metal for Lumines because I've heard such good things about it. I'm really looking forward to Hot Shots Golf and GTA. The big seller for me on the PSP was game quality and then being able to play videos and music. I put Lost in Translation on my 1GB Duo last night, it looks and sounds great. The video playback is easy to control (changing screen size, fast forward, reverse, etc). The movie which is 1 hour 41 minutes long is about a 570-580MB file and it was converted at 30fps. I'm also putting 2 CDs on there and 3 episodes of the Simpsons (these are 15 fps and a little less than 100MB a piece). Great stuff to have on the plane ride for my business trip coming up next week.

Fragile... hardly. It has a handle strap if you choose to put it on so if you dropped it would catch on your wrist. I tested it a lot of times last night on my bed. Working at EB these are the complaints I heard yesterday... Pixels dead on screen and 1 person had their R button jammed. Sony's warranty only covers dead pixels if they are greater than 5. Buying a warranty is always good for a new system launch. I am actually thinking to go back and get one for myself.
2. Are dead pixels really a huge problem?
again, I have heard some complaints from customers last night. Like the person said above me, the pixels are really tiny so to notice them broken is pretty bad. Its not like a game boy where the pixel goes and you can easily see it. I personally tried to see if mine had dead pixels and I couldn't find any.
3. What are the BEST games on the PSP in your opinion?
Lumines I bought cause everyone said it was addictive. Think a more chaotic Tetris. Very addictive. I also bought against my better judgement Metal Gear Acid. I haven't opened it yet for fear it sucks so I plan on testing it at work better I open my copy. If it sucks, I will return it to Best Buy for either THUG2 or something else.

You want an idea of how fragile it is? Mine fell out of the Intec Aluminum Case and fell STRAIGHT to the ground of my job's parking lot: Not a single scratch on it, considering how far it fell. It works fine. Thank God for the warranty still...

No, what I want to hear is that the PSP has no problems (except for the minor percentage of defects that are to be expected with any manufacturing process). I really want to buy a PSP and I have the money set aside but I am holding off because of all of the launch issues. I have only heard complaints because I can read. The few happy PSP owners are definitely in the minority as far as I can tell.

I've dropped gameboys and had friends drop gameboys thousands of times. And I mean every goddam iteration. Those things are built like tanks. However, not to rag on the PSP, but given the inevitable nature of having a disc format it simply has to have more moving parts than any of those. Moving parts means wear/tear or ability to break easily.

in the user's guide for psp, sony said dead pixs are not a manufacturing problem, and they are normal for any LCD screen XD.

We have 2 PSPs in our house, one has 1 dead pixel that is nearly impossible to see. The other is perfect. Played NFSU, Lumines, Wipeout Pure, and THUG 2 and enjoyed them all very much. Also bought Untold Legends but haven't opened it yet.

one thing i don't get about the store warranty is that sony is already providing a year warranty if i understand correctly (and gamespot seems to indicate that sony is now acknowleging the pixel issue)

According to this Gamespot article, Sony is still covering dead pixels in their warranty.
