View Full Version : $5 off coupon for PS2/PSP games at Best Buy--NO minimum

Hey all,
I don't know if this has been discussed already, but Best Buy stores now have stacks of these coupons that give you $5 off the price of a PS2 or PSP game... "just like a GGC" you say. Well yes, that's true.... except that there is no minimum on what you're buying :D
Hence, they'll give you $5 games for FREE.
The coupons last till the end of the year, so you may want to hurry and grab a bundle of them--who knows how useful these could be over the coming months?
Hope this is useful for someone :)
Edit: The coupon is available at http://img230.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img230&image=scan00011kr.jpg. All you have to do is print it out on an 8.5x11 piece of paper, and you're ready to roll (yes, the coupon will be huge, but it's supposed to be that way)... YES, the coupon is designed to nearly fill a piece of paper--that's the way the coupon is supposed to look, and you should have no trouble with it.
OR, you can print up a whole sheet of smaller ones (some people have reported having trouble with the really small ones, so you may want to try the sheet of six coupons instead), and just cut them out:
10 Coupons--

6 Coupons--
http://img95.echo.cx/my.php?image=scan00011krcleanedsheet6x2rg.png
Special thanks to CoffeeEdge for making these sheets of smaller ones!
Also, a brand new coupon has surfaced--this is one is only good for PS2 games (not PSP games) but looks mildly more legit. It's available here:

Speical thanks to froinlaven for pointing this out.

The copies of the coupon at my store are literally just black and white, 8 and a half by 11 pages with a giant coupon printed on them; I'll try to scan one in as soon as I get to my scanner, as you could probably just print them up and they'd work fine.
And yes, that means that all $5 games are free (literally), $10 games are $5 etc... This could be great later this year if games tank it down to $5 like they sometimes do....

the coupon seems pretty awesome, but I feel like bestbuy will get rid of it soon enough if it gets abused.

In which case I'd rag on the manager, considering the coupon says it's good from "3/20/05-12/31/05" :P

As the OP said, the coupons are on 8X11 paper because the guide got screwed up. So if one person scanned it in, we could all easily have copies.

My BB doesn't even carry the GGC anymore.
They say it's going to be discontinued, due to the abuse.
What a freaking joke.
As for the b&w coupon,....... haven't seen it.
Perhaps you are talking about the one with the PSP bundles listed on it.

By the way, on the coupon it says "One coupon per household..." do they really enforce that crap? Like if I walk up to the counter with 2 or 3 of these $5 things, will they limit me to one?

According to the OP, you can use one copy of the coupon on multiple copies of games...So, no need for more than one coupon at a time.

jampack still work at a couple of EBs?
wampa8jedi
03-27-2005, 10:08 AM
About jampacks--I did this at the begining of last week (21st), when Volume 11 was still included in EBgames's PSP deal.
About multiple coupons, the cashier was fine letting me pick up four jampacks for free--they each had to be rung up multiple times though (ie, four receipts). I'm sure that some cashiers will give you a hard time, but just come back the next day and get somebody different--these things last for an entire year (well, almost), so there's gonna be plenty of opportunity to use (and abuse) them.

What's the exact dimensions of the coupon for resizing purposes?
wampa8jedi
03-27-2005, 10:42 AM
I don't have exact measurements, but as long as you print that image up with a white border on an 8.5x11 page, you'll be fine; there's nothing scientific about these coupons--in fact, they're one of the most ghetto things I've ever seen at Best Buy :P

Yeah, print it so that it takes up as much space on the page as possible (ie, if you're using the picture in this thread, just hit the print button and it'll be fine)...

Lemme get this straight... you use this coupon to get free Jampack 11s and then go to EB and get $10 store credit for each of them? So in theory if you can do this 25 times you can get a free PSP?

I don't think that you get $10 for each Jampack. You can, however, use them towards PSP games (like trade in 4 and get a $40 game)

lmao. I was looking to get World Of Warcraft...this might work. So i go into best buy with this cupon and they just scan the cupon once and the jampack and bada bing free? well - sales tax. Then i could go to EB Games and trade them in for 10 bucks and bada bing WOW for the price of sales tax? thats pretty sweet. Any other deals like this because i want to get WoW for cheap....

Hold on, is the $10 you're getting the trade in price for the Jampack disc, or are you trading it in for a specific trade-in offer or something? I wanna know so I can get the most out of this thing that I can.

To increase your chances of making the coupon work, go to a young female clerk. From my experience, guys tend to give you more crap, and who wouldn't wanna be served by a hottie! Hopefully, your BB hasn't been remodeled like ours, in which there's a line, then 8 counters, first open, first serve, kinda like a post office - you no longer get to choose which counter to go to. Influx of population over last five years, corporation had to adapt.

how many people have successfully used a printed version of this yet? did they give you any hassle about it?
the reason I ask is because when I went to BB to buy some games on Fri. I asked for some coupons and was told that I could either save 5.00 on 1 game(I was buying 3) or I could get the 20.00 gift card. I took the GC since it was 20.00 > 5.00 but when I went back around to get another game they wouldn't let me get the discount without the coupon(this cashier said they were out and the coupon expired when they ran out).
CaptPete
03-28-2005, 02:39 PM
25??? What posessed you to get that many of them? (Ok, so `free' is a pretty good motivator...)
EB will probably give you $1 or so in trade-in credit (although now that they've got a billion of them, it could be more like $0.25). They make very nice DVD cases though.
One other thing. I stopped by Best Buy this morning to pick up Onimusha 2 using the coupon and the computer didn't automatically take the $5 off the game; the cashier had to manually override it. Has anyone else tried it today? Makes me wonder if BB is tweaking the coupon a bit...

I've been using a photocopy of the original coupon that I got at a store. Both times nobody batted an eye. It kind-of looks like a cheesy reproduction, but that's what they were handing out at the store... I assume that if it's close enough to the original size then you shouldn't have any problem.

03-28-2005, 03:23 PM
You really can just print the coupon up from the first page of the thread and use it--the stores won't give you any trouble. Sure, it looks like one ghetto coupon, but it's essentially the same as what they're handing out in stores. Fear not, it'll work...
It'll be interesting to see how this coupon plays out over the coming months--free is so much nicer than $5 :D

As a quick update, a friend of mine used this coupon today, and the cashier was kind enough to enter in a $5 discount per item, rather than ringing him up multiple times.... It really does pay to pick a cashier who looks friendly, and to be friendly to them in return--you'll be surprised how many more deals you can pull off when you're not a demon customer, but a kind and funny guy or gal...

I saw a used Tenchu: Wrath of H eaven last night and it was marked POX.
I was just going off the list of games from the EB website, and it wasn't there when I checked.
Would be nice if they kept it up to date, if it's really POX and not PO?

No time to read the entire thread at the moment, but were any Vegas CAGs able to take advantage of this or find any coupons at any stores?
Lots of copies at the Best In The West location. Haven't used it yet, though.

So I've got 25 JamPack 11s. EBGames doesn't want them. Any ideas on what to do with them? (Besides shoving them up my ass or returning them to the store)
Tell you what. I'll give you $25 bucks for them right now.

Oh yea, whats up Wampa!
I was the guy at BB who gave you the Resident Evil: Code Veronica X during the $5 sale.
Be a while, I'm assuming this deal would suck for me since the Cashier at EB is tired of getting Jappacks 11 right? Or do you have a buddy helping you out?

I'd just print out a bunch of copies of the scan of the coupon. As far as whether or not you have to do it multiple times -- it definitely does depend. This one $$$ wouldn't let me do the thing multiple times, but then there was some ho from my Physics class that I knew who let me run the thing through as many times as I wanted. Basically, if they say 1 per household, just ask if they can make it a bunch of seperate transactions.

So, the fact that one cashier was a homosexual versus the other cashier being a whore is what stopped you from using the coupon? :-s :bs:

I should've gone to a female clerk but she had a long line (probably because she was hot). But I was in a rush and just decided to go to the other line with the dude. But I could've tried with two of the $10 to see if they worked or not.

Exactly--how you actually are going to be able to use the coupon is going to be highly YMMV... get a nice cashier that thinks you're hot, and you'll get away with crazy stuff (and maybe her number as well); get a fiendish cashier, and who knows what kinds of problems you could have on your hands. The fact is, the coupon works, even in its ghetto 8.5x11 form...
And howdy mooky--of course I remember you, RE:CV is still sitting in perfect condition on my shelf, along with the rest of my GCN RE collection... were you able to get in on the CC computer glitch several weeks/months ago? (ie, the buy two $20 games for $30, cept you were really getting them for $5 each) I stocked up on another 14 $5 games from Circuit City from that 'deal' ;) Poor guys.... I'm not certain I've ever paid full price for anything from them...
Be careful about our EBgames right now though: hehehe I think they took one too many jampacks and Future Tactics from a certain someone :p

I've printed up like 10 of the coupon that I scanned (the one posted on this board) for me and some friends and they've all worked fine. It's just the bastards that limit you to one per customer like the coupon specifies... lol.

I don't think it'll work on the $4.99 games because they're not quite $5... you could ask them to manually override it, but I dunno. I didn't even see any of the $5 games at my Best Buy even though the site listed them as being in stock.
As far as the games that are POX... you can definitely trade those in, but you probably won't get that much. I got some Jampack discs that wouldn't work and luckily I left them sealed and stuff so I could just return them to Best Buy when I found out that they wouldn't work with trade in deals.

Chacrana--Yeah, even if there IS a problem with the coupon, they shouldn't make a fuss about over-riding it and giving you whatever you're buying for free; afterall, they're the one who made a coupon with no minimum price on it.....
Although whoever came up with that brillant plan should be fired by the end of the year as the abuses for this thing pile up ;)

I did this exact transaction. The girl told me the same thing. I responded with, "It is the regular price for the game, it's even the same on the website." She went and asked someone something real quick, then went ahead with it. She said some games don't ring up right with the coupon and some do, but they'll still prolly give it to you if you fuss about it like I did. I just had to fill out some paper with info and got MP2 for $4.99+tax. No big deal.

I used the GGC for Tiger Woods 2005 XBOX and the $5 off psp/ps2 coupon for XIII PS2. I had to do them in separate transactions as the computer wouldn't let me do both in the same transaction. The $5 off PSP/PS2 coupon worked like a charm, came up in the computer with no problem. I am going to be making many more copies. :)

If anyone is near the Best Buy at Emeryville,CA. You can bring as many copies as you want to the counter and they won't hassle you. They'll just ring up each transaction separately. I got 2 copies of Metal Arms, Bad Boys and Confict Desert Storm. Dropped by Rockridge to trade for PSP and works like a charm. Not sure how many copies of each games are left though.

my best buy kind of sucks, its the one in dublin, CA. i was able to pick up metal arms:GITS and onimusha2 separately for $5.43 each after tax which is pretty decent for the reviews these games got. so i'll probably just play them. they dont have a lot of the other games mentioned by people though.
but i wont be able to take advantage of the 3-1 trade-in at ebgames. i think they might be catching on cause i called an eb games in san ramon and they wouldn't give me an ok or not ok on games i can trade in. they wanted me to just bring whatever games i had and go in to see if they were ok or not. the guy didnt even try to give me an ok for even one game before he said to take them in and see. i was also tryin to ask people at the dublin eb games but that dude didnt even know about the 3-1 trade-in deal and had to ask someone. he tried to tell me which games are ok, but he wasnt sure. sigh....i was at best buy too so i could just read off which games were $9.99 so i could use the $5 off coupon. meh...my plan didnt work though...o well.

Yeah, but making it a high res scan is what someone else asked for so that's what I did..
Okay, go to word, center the picture on the page, and then size it so it pretty much fills the whole page (just be sure to keep the aspect ratio -- only resize it diagonally so it keeps the right shape.) Anyway, it will work.
On a side note -- it was cool cause yesterday at BB, the girl at the cash register tore up the coupon after I used it and wrote void on it (they usually just give it back) so I was like "oh good job." I went and got another from my pocket and used it at a different register. So anyway, I ended up with 6 games from BB for like $25, and merging the deals let me get 2 PSP games from that (Darkstalkers and Metal Gear Acid... gotta get Ridge Racer sometime.)

Well lessee.... I picked up Conflit: Desert Storm, Bad Boys, and Metal Arms one time (which was $15 total.) Then the next time, I believe that I found Batman: Rise of Zin Tsu or whatever that garbage is called and that was $5 at Best Buy. I asked the ho at the register to manually subtract $5 or I would murder her so she did. Then I got another copy of Conflict and Bad Boys. So really, it'll be $30 if you're unlucky, but it's less if you can manage to find some $5 games not on the exclusions list.
So you get the games, go to EB, and get whatever games from that 3 for 1 list that you can. I went back to EB Games later and returned them for store credit and grabbed some decent (AKA: Non-Sony) games.

I brought 6 coupons with me and they worked automatically for every game except for the $5 one (because it's technically $4.99 rather than $5.) When the cashier brings that up, say that there's no minimum price on it and follow up with a death threat. That works well. But yeah, apart from the $4.99 games, it works automatically.

Why hasn't anyone really mentioned the terms on the coupon?
"Excludes prior purchases and special order, CLEARANCE, DEMO and open box."
with this terminology....
it makes pretty much everthing good about it YMMV.
all the 4.99 games and jampacks/exhibitions?
clearance and demo.

They've hit $0.99 at my BB as well. The clerk didn't want to scan 'em for me.
"Look, it says $7.99 right here on the sticker."
"I know, but the stickers probably haven't been updated in a long time. Those things don't sell very well at all."
The dude then shakes his head like I'm a retard and scans the game...lo and behold, $0.99.
"Wow...um...I guess you called it."
"Yeah, guess I did."
Looking back, I could have called HIM some stuff, but oh well. I mean, he only works there, right? It's not like he's expected to give friendly service, or even KNOW anything about the store. :P

The coupon should work but if it doesn't, the cashier usually has to do it manually. Like Cabella Deer HUnter didn't work when the coupon was scanned but they did it manually for me. No problems. They even let me keep the coupon saying it doesn't expire til the end of the year so hold on to it. Real cool employees.

That and the fact that the coupon doesn't list a minimum price on the items you can use it for... so you can basically get it to work for everything since the fine print works to your advantage.
As far as no copies.... best buy's been a shitty store in the past -- time they got their just desserts.

Yea Ive heard nothing but REALLY good things about the Online mode. I am gonna hold off on Twisted Metal all though I could get it w/ a little hassling w/ the coupons to get some cheapy games & what not but I would rather just get a 256mb DUO for mainly music for now; since I dont have my wireless setup YET.
I will be more than happy w/ THUG II, Tiger Woods & a 256mb Stick till I get my ATV Pre-Order; by than I should have a wireless setup (Around 19th).
But w/ that EB Games deal ending around the 14th I should use a couple more coupons & what not to score Twisted Metal while I CAN get it for Free....yea might have to do that, lmao.

They won't... because they won't know it's a copy. See, at Best Buy, the coupon they were handing out was a simple copied piece of paper to begin with. That's the only reason why I was able to scan it and have it work every time. It looks exactly the same as the original and there's no way they'll be able to tell the difference.

its full page like i said. someone said they shrunk the coupons and they work so you can do that, but they were originally stretching side to side on a 8x11 sheet of paper. yes the ones they handed out were full page black and white copies. they were originally crap like many people have said already.
just go and copy it off a copy machine for .10 cents each or something, instead of wasting ink. or if you have a laser printer then your set.

just came back from BB in San Diego (Parkway Plaza) and successfully used the $5 coupon on Megaman X8 to make it $14.99. Looks like I am the first person w/ this coupon at this store because no one knew what it was, but when we rung up the game the cashier scanned the coupon and it took $5 off. Jampacks were also there for $0.99. I printed the coupon 8.5x11 full size and it worked...

I just picked up Megaman X8 for $14.99 too. God, I love this forum. :)
Off the top of my head, I saw MMX8 and Megaman Command mission for $20 regular. Gradius V is still $30 but this might be enough to convince the fence-sitters to go get it now (it is easily worth $25). I also saw Growlancer Generations (standard version) marked down to $40 in case anyone was looking for a price drop. Those are the only ones I can think of but I'll add more if I remember them.

You know, if Obscure for PS2 would just come into stock at my BB, it would be the perfect game to use these coupons on. Went with my family (total people= 4)
Gave each member of my family 1 coupon
(printed off of here, 2.5" height X 5" length)
Total all 4 of us picked up (w/tax included and AC):
Ribbit King $5.38
Metal Arms: Glitch in the System $5.38
Conflict: Desert Storm $5.38
XIII $0.00
They had to clear the coupon with the manager, but it was all good. No question about where i got it or anything. They were even really cool about giving XIII for free!
Somewhat off topic: I bought these for the Ebgames PSP trade-in deal and since its not going on anymore, anyone know what I could do to these? Anyone know GAMERUSH value? Perhaps gamestop would be good? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

This is sweet. I just keep getting the feeling that the people at the Best Buy near me are just going to look at me like "whaat?" when they see this giant coupon. :P
When I was at my Best Buy (Bellevue, WA), the employees stared at the coupon in my hand while I was browsing like I just stole something. Also, the cashier was reluctant to give me a free game. I'll have to go back this week to get XIII.

short of scanning all the games, is there a list of games and their prices pre-coupon. The store near me has all these games in a 29.99 and under section with no current prices on them. They had a grip of BG&E, XIII, jampacks, etc... but I didnt have a coupon, nor did they have any instore, so I was SOL, but I did find some GGC with the 19.99 and over coupon though I passed on the 29.99 and over coupon. GR trade in on XIII is 1.50, may not qualify for the $5 extra promo. Buying to play these games is worth it, buying to trade these games = too much hassle and time.

I went and picked up a free XIII yesterday--it was buried behind some other random PS2 trash... pays to dig :)

so on next weeks ad for BB, there's some PSP movies for 14.99, does anyone know if the coupon would apply to those as well?
Or just to piss off BB even more so, PM target or CC for 12.99 then use the coupon, but that's a total YMMV.

My BB has several copies of XIII but they just won't let me "buy" them. Of course, the BB closest to me really sucks so I wasn't surprised. I did get Ribbit King and Onimusha 2 for about $5 each. While getting those games I was told stories such as "you have to spend at least $30 to use the coupon" and "hey, that coupon is only for PSP games".
The only time anyone should shop at BB is when you can rip them off in some way.

do what i do, buy a drink and XIII with a coupon in hand. As long as the cashier gets some money, They wont feel like they're getting jipped.

Thanks for the list Toddler.
I've already gotten a few free copies of XIII, but I'll have to print out that list and take it with me next time I go to Best Buy to try and score some more free game goodness.

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that I saw Whirl Tour marked as $9.99 at my Best Buy. $4.99 after coupon doesn't sound too bad, but I'm not sure if this is nationwide (I'd imagine it is). Same situation with Pro Race Driver. If you are interested, you may as well check them at your local Best Buy.

I modified Toddler's list to include the rating from Gamespot to give me some idea of what's worth picking up when I go to Best Buy later today or tomorrow.
Thanks again to Toddler for finding all these.
