If you are reading this it means you one of the first to see the new CAG forums.
Of course it will take some time to get full functionality restored, so I ask for your patience.

The work on the forums is by no means complete.
I wanted to get the forums back to the CAG community ASAP so please bear with me while I attempt to get to the huge pile of work that needs to be done.


Here are the some of the more interesting new features, most of which are accessable from your User CP:

1) Buddy/Ignore Lists
2) Greatly improved thread subscription features
3) Better PM management
4) Improved search
5) Rate threads (10 ratings are needed before the icons appear on the forum)
6) Users (with 1000+) can edit their title in User CP
7) eBay style trading feedback (coming soon)
8) Enhanced posting interface (selectible in User CP)



There will likely be a few issues that spring up and I will keep a list of them here:

1) All your old PMs transered over, but they are all your Inbox. Now is the time for some spring cleaning.
2) It seems the PM email notification may be defaulted to off on your profile.
3) Fix front page latest msg board posts (restore old format)
4) Move jumpbox higher on the page
5) Tweak colors
6) Tweak spacing/layout
7) Integrate navigation from previous forum
8) Clean up smilies and post icons
9) Restore automatic link/image (game box art) converter
10) Fix weird Google Ads scrolling thing (Firefox problem only)
11) Slowness on some IE browsers
12) Database issues
13) Investigate quoting options
14) limit text pop up to when you mouse over the actual links

The one thing I noticed is that if someone quoted a person on your ignore list, they will show in the quote. But at least the original will be blocked.

-Where do I go to see all of my old posts? I can't seem to find the new "View Your Posts" link

-The quick reply double click was much more quick with just clicking the text box, out of habit I'd like to see it return.

-Every post now seems to be huge...This may be just because of the way each post is seperated into sections... Still looks too big though...

-Text in the sig. looks exactly like a reply...there should be some way to diferentiate between the two.

-Make the forums unique again, they look very similar to many other message boards on the net. Just bring back some of the CAG flavor that I mentioned before and whatever else that made the last place so special.

Post counts are important, IMO because of the reasons stated above. If you think you are super cool based on thousands of posts then whatever floats your boat...

Try it. Block someone who's started a thread, and see if you can access it or not.

Well there are still titles you can go by and one of them says Newbie.

Also, it seems like the time zone got reset.

Post counts are important, IMO because of the reasons stated above. If you think you are super cool based on thousands of posts then whatever floats your boat...Shouldn't post counts not be important? I only have about 150 posts because I wanted a new name and I couldn't get Cheapy to change it. I had almost 4000 posts on my other account, but decided to drop that in favor of getting the name that I wanted. I don't mind having a low post count. I don't really care if anyone knows how many posts I have.

Seeing if someone is a newbie is pretty easy to tell by their rank and when they joined which is still displayed in each post. If you still want to know their exact post count, just click on their name.

The giant empty posts are from users posting a single sentance along with the space created by avatar etc...nothing can fix that I guess

Also, a collapsing thread button would help. I'd love to collapse a post after I've read it therefore limiting the space of those giant ones! I'm not sure if this can be implimented but I bet I'm not the only one who'd like to hide away something once it's been read.

Also, the gamertag spot in the avatar column is gone...maybe it should stay that way to minimize empty thread space though.

Yeah, in general I don't think most people will use it much but it is a nice feature to have.

This is obviously a very rare occasion that this limit was exceeded, so I wasn't sure if it was changeable (although I'm guessing it can be turned off).

I changed the PM limit storage to 150

Smiles are on the drop down on the reply screen...its got a pic of a smiley on it.

Okay... I figured it out. Before Subscribed posts and the thing i was talking about were two different things. Now whenever I post in a thread... its automatically added to the "subscribed posts" listing... COOL! Although is it just me or is text input slow. Is it my computer?

I will say (as it may or not have been said before) stat tracking on the posts (number in a thread, viewing times- to know if anyone was even looking-, and user posts) was nice to have, but will take some getting used to. I know, I know, it really is more of a "Who's...Car..is bigger" syndrome, but, hey, helps to know who's talking out of their exhaust.

I don't know, I have cable and Morbid has slowness too, and he has 56k dial-up. It's faster on other sites, but this one's slow. It just seems to hand at the background, a dotted gray background, for a while then loads the page that I wanted.

Is anyone else as inept, and thus lost and confused, as I am? The one thing I'm not fond of is the ignore option. My main reason for this is if you're doing a trade w/someone and you haven't gotten your merchandise they can choose to list you as "ignore" and avoid your inquiries as to the status of the trade. If someone can advise to some options concerning this matter I would appreciate it.

You need to go to Control Panel > Edit Options > Miscellaneous and change the Basic message interface to Standard.

Can you make the "Hot"/"New Post" icon on the very left side in the "Browse threads" screens smaller? So they match the height of the icons in the second column (the ones that now show EB/GB/PS2/X/etc.), because then you would see more threads listed on the page, the way it was before.

I do recommend trying to set your Default Thread Subscription Mode to on (with or without email notification) and using the great Thread Subscription system in the User CP. Just like the PM system, you can create folders and orgainze the threads how you like...its pretty neat.

Also, on the CAG front page, it seems to display the most recently CREATED threads (and thread creator), and not the most recent posts (and most recent poster).

It's too hard to differentiate between old and new posts. Didn't already read posts on the old setup unbold or something? Everything, old and new, is bright orange. Looking at the new forum, are the new posts bold? It's very hard to tell for some reason. Maybe that's just me though...can anyone else put this into better words?

Is anyone else as inept, and thus lost and confused, as I am? The one thing I'm not fond of is the ignore option. My main reason for this is if you're doing a trade w/someone and you haven't gotten your merchandise they can choose to list you as "ignore" and avoid your inquiries as to the status of the trade. If someone can advise to some options concerning this matter I would appreciate it.They can ignore your inquires without an ignore list too.

Thanks, Trakan. Is there any chance that can be shrunk down some in the future? That's only a few topics a page. Can the mailboxes for PM's be divided more than just inbox and sent? I really liked the outbox and sentbox in the old format since it let me know if someone had read my PM. Is there a way to tell if someone has read the PM? I love the new look and flexibility of vBulletin. You've done an amazing job Cheapy and Defender -- and of course, all else who contributed.

Now my only problem is the background of my avatar; the anti-alias was colored for the old boards, so now it looks choppy where transparency meets outline. I'll have to fix that, or find someone to make me one. I'm looking at you, WSB. :P

It is there, just look to the right and under the smilies. Click more and a new window opens with all of the smilies.

I liked before that the number of posts would be listed next to the title of each post under "Latest Message Board Posts". That way if "Intelligent Qube for $5 at EBGames!!!" was posted, I would know whether 2 people before me had read and responded (and it was still worth reading) or whether 5,436 people had read and responded (with 5,430 laments that it is now out of stock)

I think we should try and keep subforums to a limit. If we have too many, navigating the boards will be a hassle.

We should also consider if the Ignore feature could affect trades via the Trading forums.

I agree with this too. I don't see the point of making people type 4 more characters when a "bump" and "PM sent" is perfectly adequate. 10 characters certainly won't stop people from being annoying.

I know you're not going to do this, but I still liked having post counts next to a person's name (instead of in the profile). I say this mainly for the trading forum, so you can see pretty quickly who has low post counts and is trying to sell/trade stuff.

I also miss acronym mouseovers and "shaq-fu" :)

i dont like the way that is now either....i also liked the counter (how many ppl posted in a certain thread) right next to the thread title on the front page so you'd know right from the start what threads were getting a lot of attention

Having too many characters in your title seems to screw up the frontpage.

Also, I don't really like having the subforums under Sony and MS, etc. I liked having just one portable gaming forum, and I don't think Xbox/Xbox2 need separate forums.

Yeah, there is some work to be done on that end as well.

As I am sure you can all imagine, this conversion means a lot of work (for me) and is basically all I have done since Friday evening, and will likely be all I do for the next few weeks.

I appreciate your patience as I slowly add back missing features/links and tweak the forums to cheap ass perfection.

Also, before posting complaints, check the OP too see if your issue is already listed ;)

Two things I've noticed from the old board to the new one you should build into this one.

1. Put the forum jump drop down at the top of the page in the middle where it was.
2. When you're making a post bring back the shortcut tabs for images, links etc.

I've noticed that the emailed notifications about new PM's are working, though they don't have the person's name embedded in the email body and title like they used to. With some of the amount of PM's I get, it's nice to know who's PMing you, not just that there's one there.

I, too, would like to see the forum jump back at the top. Much easier to get to.

As far as I can tell, it's just a quick reference for who out of your contacts is online or not. If the functions of the list extend beyond that, like perhaps allowing admission into public/private groups by association, I do not know.

Wow! havent had a chance to get on the internet for a while and when I do I come back to this. I can't say much about the software or how well it works yet, but the interface and look is incredibly nice!!! nice color scheme !
