Check out the differences between the Sony and Microsoft forums...I am testing something.

The Sony forum is a regular forum (you can post in it) and it has 2 subforums (PS2 and PSP).

I just made the Microsoft forum a category (you can't post in) and it has 2 subforums (Xbox and Xbox2).

Which format do you like better?

EDIT: I put the Msoft forum back the way it was...

The prior. Sony and Microsoft release stuff besides game consoles, that space could be used to talk about Sony cameras, tvs, etc, and the MS and PC forums could be merged (since the majority use Windows).

As far as visuals, I'm not sure. But I think having only 2 forums would be easier to manage. That extra Sony General forum could get confusing, and we already have General Gaming News.

Green on green is ugly green. Orange is better.

I actually dislike the subforurms. If I want to get PS2 and PSP news, I have to click two links now. Before, everything was on one page.

I think that subforums would be nice if there were mass amouns of topics being created. But the community is still pretty small, and the threads moved at a nice pace before.

My two cents.

id rather have subforums.. i mean if i want to talk about xbox without having to go through a bunch of xbox 2 posts to find what everyone is discussing then yeah.. but same goes for PS2 and PSP i would want to talk about those separately.

I think I could get used to subforums, although in most cases I usually just post in the topics on the front page.

It's an extra click, and it gives PSP its own forum, and it cleans up the main forum page. you can actually click "Video Game Discussions" and get ALL systems listed. With the heated debates among Nintendo followers and psp people, i think THAT is a great idea. The way MS is layed out works better though, no third wheel

I like seeing the last post, which the current Microsoft setup doesn't have. Keep last post in.

I say keep the subforums. It'll help keep the clutter down.

I like the MS version best. I think the subforums are great because lately I've been interestred in PSP stuff and not PS2 so much - it's great to not have to weed out the stuff I'm not looking for. I also think that a "Sony General" forum (containing the 2 subforums) would get lost in the shuffle. I'm here to talk about video games, mostly, and if there is something Sony-related like a TV that I want to talk about I'll go to the off-topic forum. I do think that there needs to be a PS1 forum (or "classic Sony") though as well as a "classic Nintendo" forum or something for those into the SNES or NES, etc...

Make it like the sony forum. If we couldn't post in the sony forum where would we talk about ps1 stuff?? Surely not in the ps2 forum. Leave the company forums open so that we can talk about general things like older consoles, the company itself, etc.

I also want to point out, to the people making a big deal about subforums, that subforums are nothing more than a forum that has been nested to make the index look neater. So whether they are all splattered on the index or nicely nested they are the same thing.

I am in agreement with Scrubking's thinking.
I guess it doesn't really matter if the Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo Gaming forums are not posted in as much as their console specific subforums.

Not to mention when a new console comes out, like the ps3, you can just direct all ps2 discussion to the general Sony forum (for example), instead of creating more subforums for each new thing - thus avoiding tons of subforums.

Oops - I think we are forgetting about the Old School games forum, myself included...

If go with the way the microsoft forum is setup, we can't seem to have the last post on the index.
Right now, I am leaning to making it like the Sony one, and not worrying about how many posts appear in the actual Sony forum.

I'll leave it as is for now, listen to some more feedback, and then decide later today.

I kind of like the Sony Gaming forum setup only because if there's a game coming out for both PS2 and PSP, you could talk about in the Sony General Discussion forum instead of posting the same thing in each forum (PS2 discussion and PSP discussion).

It's not a huge deal though: I actually voted "I don't care."

I think i will like the subforum once i get used to it. As javeryh noted, the issue with older consoles is they should go into the Old School Games discussion.

All in all these changes are for the good, it's just going to take sometime to get used too.

The Old school games forum should be for old school games. Putting the PS2 discussion in the OSG forum would be ridiculous. The PS2 needs many more years before it is considered old school - if it ever is considered old school.

Ok, I put the msoft forum back to match the sony one...

I think it's horrible, actually.

At least make the Xbox forum the actual first link and then the Xbox 2 subforum accessible from there, by making neither accessible from the first link, you're just creating an extra link for everyone. This may very well honestly make me post less because of our more cluttered and time consuming all these subforums are. I may have to go back to just responding to the last posts on the homepage.

Yeah, I don't really understand why people are talking about this extra clicking...everything is once click away from the Index, just like before. Man, you guys are tough customers.

Woah, didn't notice the subforums under the parent forum on the main index....my bad.

I still don't like it though. :)

Why not has DS and GBA have seperate subforums? They are two somewhat different systems. However, I'm sure GBA is all but dead in the near future.

I'm for the Microsoft format (and the Nintendo format). There's no need to have a general discussion in there, too. Just divide it up by console/system. I like how Nintendo is GC and DS/GBA (although maybe the latter should be split?). As new consoles come out, a new subforum can be added (for any of the names, Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo, in their respective forum)
