maybe 360 is the price, a royal irony on their part, how long was it before the first price drop

A couple of game employees I spoke to said that they expect the starting price of the new consoles to be quite a bit higher than this generations 299.99. He said he wouldn't be suprised to see a 399.99 price at launch or even higher. I've also read somewhere online that some games for next gen could start out for 59.99 instead of 49.99.

Hmm, $400 for Microsoft's next-gen console! I'll wait until 2006 to buy the console. I'm not done with the Xbox just yet...

The 3 version idea is completely bunk.
Why would MS (or any game company) want to loose money on 3 sets of hardware? Even IF they sell ad-ons.
We all know companies take a hit on the hardware and make up the difference in software..that's how it's always worked

do you think people are going to be willing to pay more for the software? I remember when cartridges could cost up to 80 bucks and I'm really hoping that we dont return to that model of an arbitrary number between 50 and 80. plus how long is Microsoft going to support Xbox live for the Xbox? will they cut it off when the new Xbox comes out and push it on that? Will the support it for a few months, a few years? why even pay for a year subscription now when you dont know where Xbox Live will be in a year.

Xbox Live is Xbox Live, it's a service. Why would Xbox Live go away? It makes huge amounts of money for MS. Xbox Live will obviously work with Xbox 2 - just move your account over...You don't get a new ISP if you get a new computer do you? Same concept here...new box same service provider. They'll just have to support the new games associated with Xbox 2 - but it can't be that much different; however, I know they're adding some new ideas such as a gamer-card where it keep tracks of the games you play, and your stats for those games and that the interface is uniform across Live enabled games...but I don't see that interfeering with first gen xbox owners.
I also highly doubt game pricing will go up...Remember...the gamaing industry made more than hollywood last year...there's buko bucks in software. You may see more and more Limited Editions or the like - that only makes sense. If they start raising prices, there will be backlash by the consumer - do you think mom and dad will buy a $70 game for jr? Do you want to pay $70 for a game? NO? I didn't think so. The gaming industry knows this.

I wish I could find that link that talked about the next-gen software, but I'm pretty sure it said that only the big name titles would be seeing the increase.
I've been saving up for the next-gen, and hopefully it's not too expensive or I'll just wait for a price drop or two.
Anyone hear about any rumored games?
I've heard of quite a few in a couple of my magazines (OXM and Game Informer). I'll try pull them out later and post all that they mention on here.

It helps when the correct spelling is used. Essentially it's French-derived Southern slang of sufficent vintage to be considered part of the language.

Game Informers has had feature previews for Elder Scrolls IV and Condemned and they are the two titles that I'm wanting most for next-gen currently. Also I think Kameo is the Rare platformer game that was originally scheduled for Xbox. OXM thinks that the recent delay means they are retooling it for the new Xbox. Far Cry Instincts fits the same description as Kameo's.
Also I think Wardevil is suppose to be next-gen, and there was some other game that reminded me of Splinter Cell that is a next-gen game. I think I saw both on gametrailers.com, but I can't remember that other game's title.

Unless of course you're Sony or Nintendo. Nintendo always profited from hardware sales. PSOne and PS2, if I remember correctly, were sold at or above cost for their entire lifespan as well. I'm not sure about PSP...they may be taking a hit there, but I can't find any solid information one way or another.

I believe you're thinking of Digital Extreme's futuristic stealth game "Dark Sector". I think it was actually the first next gen game ever officially announced.
Also I think Half-Life 2 is rumored to show up on the next xbox.

No rumors as of yet, have pertained to any release date, regarding the Xbox 2 hardware system, it is expected to be released on or around the beginning of november, due to the fact that a XBOX 2 Game called Battlefield: Modern Combat is slated for a release date later november

From the reports at GDC it looks like that's the plan for Microsoft. They were calling the next-generation the "HD Era".
I can't imagine Sony would do anything less. Especially if they want PS3 to push the blu-ray technology.

I have some good information that many XBox2 questions will be answered on May 12 at around 9:30. I dont know many specifics. But I almost positive that we will see what it will look like and what it will be called, as well as some gameplay footage. Sorry if this is too cryptic, but it is all I can say now.

Gamespot's Rumor Control has supposedly leaked pictures of the controller. Black and white buttons are gone and replaced with shoulder buttons above the triggers. They appear to wireless and lack a memory card slot, which might give indication that there will be a hard drive.

Ugh. Wireless conrollers as the only option? Give me wires or give me death!
Until a decent battery technology comes along that lets me play for weeks at a time and powers the most earth-shaking rumbles my hands have felt, I'll pass on wireless.

Microsoft still isn't getting the recognition they deserve for the breakaway controller idea.
btw - that controller is very, very ugly and hurts my eyes.

It looks like it might have a rollerball on it, which is a pretty decent idea. I'd rather have a rollerball in place of the second analog stick, which would be AWESOME for FPSs.
