edit: I need to learn how to type more better.

This is as good a place as any, but what exactly are the details with applying for filing them late? I know someone who hasn't paid their taxes for seven years, because they do that. Is that even legal?

you can file an extension. H&R Block has a link on their website to do it.

I think I am going to do that right now

Im sure its illegal to not pay. I only know that you have an extra day to file when you live in CT because you send them to Mass. If I was your friend I would make sure nothing I owned(house/car) was in my name! The IRS will eventually catch up. If anyone knows what the statute of limitations is on taxes, I would love to know! 5 years maybe? not sure.

You should have gotten an end of the year for saying how much you paid in interest. You get a credit on the interest. HR online is so easy to do, you just click the check box next to student loan interest and they ask you all the questions about the form. Really easy. You also get a credit for the cost of school too!

Well, it's not one of my friends, its my aunt's friend, and it seems she keeps filing for extensions upon extentions and extensions for those extensions. I think she found a loophole or something, or maybe she'll be getting a visit from the irs eventually.

I would think so! I hope not. I have heard you can really settle for pennies on the dollar with them.......

I will call my mom in the morning and make sure I have everything because I recieved 10000 from my Grandmother for college and need to know about that along with what my grandma put in the stock market for me and how that affects things.

I will probably file online though if it is packed tomorrow.

I think the only federal form I have to fill out is a 1099 since I did not work last year so I may just do it online.

Was state included in that BigNicK?

An extension does not mean you get to put off paying your taxes. It only extends the deadline for submitting the paperwork. You still must pay any tax owed by the normal due date. If you don't, you are subject to penalties.

As long as your Grandmother hasn't given you a ton of money over your lifetime and reached a certain cap, she can give you up to $11,000 a year tax free. Probably too late to help, but I thought I would try to help.

If you wait till the last minute anyway, you kinda ought to just get them done. An extra day for slacking isnt a great temptation.

Well I hope your Aunt enjoys visiting her in prison. If this is true and she owes the government money they will come for it, plus interest! So, unless she has a huge amount of money available to pay those back taxes she will be bankrupt and go to prison.

Sorry but you are mistaken:

State resources
File your Massachusetts return electronically -- e-filers make fewer mistakes, receive proof of filing and get refunds in 4 days! See Personal Taxes for forms and online help with filing your individual returns and review Tips for Consumers for helpful information about preparing and filing your taxes.

If you are not able to meet the April 15th deadline, you may file an extension. Please note, even if you apply for an automatic extension to file your Income Tax return, you must make an estimated tax payment by April 15th. See Web Services for Income for additional information on filing an extension.

Patriots day is at best a state holiday and has no effect on the federal deadline for filing your federal taxes.

For extensions:

http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=108542,00.html

This page will give you links to the forms you want to file for your personal return. It must be postmarked by midnight tonight.

If you owe you are supposed to make a payment of your estimated taxes.

Uh...BigNick, the article you link to is dated 2002. And contains the following line:

"The filing deadline won´t coincide with Patriots´ Day again until 2006."

Are you SURE about this? (not being sarcastic)

Its no problem, you have always posted good information on this site. I think it was nothing more than an oversight.

You see as I practice corporate tax law I have an unfair advantage.

For the fart in time I have been on this site I think most people try to help.

But this is something I wasn't going to let slide for fear it might screw someone inadvertantly.
