First off, a sealed Disgaea isn't that rare. Anyway, none. I play my games. Trying to use a game as an investment is the stupidest thing I've heard of since there was that guy on the Daily Show that was convinced that after the turn of the millenium, Pez dispensers would take over as the dominant form of currency.

Wow, that is rare -- the virtually-unknown prequel to XIII! ;)

Only the true hardcore will know how rare my sealed copy of Fox Hunt for Playstation really is.

I have a promo copy of the Fox Hunt soundtrack. Not sealed, though.

I'd say the rarest, most valuable sealed game I have is Paper Mario. I bought it at TRU years ago for about $10.

I find it funny how many people threadcrapped on this, ripping on people for having sealed games. Boo hoo -- just because other people view their gaming collections differently than you doesn't make you cooler than they are.

I have rare video games, just not sealed, though to to apply to a rare game(not just video) sealed, i have a 1900's Buck Rogers metal Toy Rocket, that my great grandfather would play with as a kid, he somehow managed to keep one sealed

EDIT: and as for kick in the pants stupidity, i opened the collectors Zelda:Ocarina of time, Ten Year Old McFarlane Toys, as well as the ever rare Vulcan Rare Action Figure, from MGS, which cameos in the Sequel for the PS2

I don't usually keep games sealed for collection purposes, but the one exception I made is my copy of Final Fantasy Anthology (non GH) for the PS. I had won the game in a IGN contest in 2001 (something like "win the 10 best games of 2000" contest) and I kept it sealed because I already owned the game. I left it at home while I went to college. During that time, my parents moved and the case got cracked a little. Also, there's a nice little hole in the barcode in the back of the case (presumably because I won it in a contest). The fact that the game didn't really turn out to be rare also hurts a bit.

The only sealed games i have are VJ2, Spikeout, Shadow Hearts 1 + 2, MGS 3 and 2 copies of Ico

Haven't gotten around to VJ2 or Spikeout. I play my back ups of SH 1+2 and MGS3(and yes, with no remorse, so spare me the moral whipping), and I found the copies of Ico cheap and decided to hold on to them since I already have an opened copy and think the game will appreciate a bit.

I sold a Shadow Hearts 1 - no wrap, but sticky label intact - for $63 shipped yesterday.

Holy crap! I'm glad I didn't wait and just picked up both games for $35.. and I'm glad I got them because they're wonderful games.

And why is it that everytime someone mentions a rare game, people come in and cry about how it's stupid to keep games sealed and etc.? I used to open all my games before but ever since I realized that I might never get to playing some of them, I decided to leave them sealed until I get to them. If needed, I could sell a sealed game for a bit more money than an open copy which wouldn't have done me any good (since I wouldn't have played it and it would go for less). I agree that games are a horrible investment and it seems like a lot of people decide what games to buy depending on whether it's rare or not.

With that, I don't think any of my sealed games are really rare... SMT Nocturne was probably my rarest but not anymore since the atlus reprint.

Maybe in the big scheme of things. But really, many people would disagree with you on that. Its a nice bit of change that could help you pay bills for the month, or buy a few extra presents for your kids etc. Or if you want to be really frivelous then its a nice restaurant and a show.

None of these are rare, I just thought I might as well post them.

I only have RE 4 : PE(ps2), Splinter Cell : CT LE(xbox), Metal Slug 4 & 5 (xbox), Fatal Frame 2 (xbox), Futurama (xbox) and Growlanser Generations Deluxe (ps2)

I got RE 4 PE just to support Capcom for making such an amazing game.

Splinter Cell we had at work for 5 months behind the counter in a glass case, no one bought it so I said f it.

Metal Slug I just haven't had time to play it.

Waiting to get Fatal Frame 1 until I open part 2

I have an opened copy of Futurama, bought the second one so Matt Groening could sign it at comic con, no dice.

I want to open Growlanser just to use the wacth, but I wont anymore seeing as I have a uber bad ass RE 4 watch my boss gave me.

the vast majority of my games are opened, because I play my games. Sitting there sealed doesnt do them any good. I guess it would have to be Growlanser Deluxe, unless you think Disgaea, Nocturne, or DDS are actually rarer, but I dont think so.

I've actually got all 4 NIS PS2 Games sealed (La Pucelle, Disgaea, Phantom Brave, Makai Kingdom). I buy two copies of the game, copy it to the hard drive, and sell it off, leaving me with the sealed one and I can still play the game.

I'm not sure if these would be rare, but since they're on some of the classic systems, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say they're rare.

(Of course, all of these are factory sealed)

SNES:

Super Castlevania IV

Nosferatu

Sim City

Ghoul Patrol

Sega CD:

Shining Force CD

Surgical Strike

Fahrenheit

Genesis:

E-Swat

Phantasy Star IV

I have quite a few games for the XBox, PS1, PS2, N64, Saturn, Dreamcast and GCN that are still sealed, but since those games are pretty much for systems released around 1995-2000, I don't consider them to be 'classic' systems.

MGS2S for PS2 or Xbox? I've seen a lot of Xbox version of the game (have a sealed one myself). There might be some seal PS2 versions at a compusa near me (since people seem to rarely buy games there).

Also, I noticed that Amazon "dealer" prices are way over inflated. I remember when the two disc edition of Fight Club went out of print people on Amazon where charging $60-70 for a used copy of the DVD. That was almost triple the rate that it was going for on Ebay.

As for me these use to be rare sealed games but not much so anymore:
Disgaea
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne

The only games I still have sealed are this current generations.

The only games I have sealed are a few I got for Christmas and the ones from the TRU sale. Otherwise, everything of mine is opened.

I guess DDS is the rarest I have sealed.

Not sure what my rarest I have on hand anymore is, Last year I sold my copy of Final Fantasy (nes) sealed and Exertainment Mountain Bike Rally/Speed Racer (snes) (that one will only get the crazed collectors excited) at the time one of only 5-10 known to be around.

My updated list:

Knuckles Chaotix - Factory Sealed (Sega 32x)
Steel Battalion - Factory Sealed w/ original cardboard shipping box!!! (Xbox)
Mario Dance Dance Revolution (Gamecube)
Kingdom Hearts (Non-GH) (PS2)

Funny story about my Steel Battalion:
I bought this when I worked part-time at a local Funcoland/GameStop when they had an annual Employee Appreciation week (extra 30% employee discount!).
I paid around $140 for this and immediately took it home and put it directly in my closet. I don't know why I bought it, other than the fact that I got such a good deal on it.
I keep forgetting I have this thing!!!

ZOE2 and MGS2S are pretty rare in sealed condition. The cheapest copies of either one cost well over $100 on Amazon.

Cool. Glad I kept them sealed. :)

I guess now after IQ it's Wild Arms 2. I just bought it from estarland.com, and don't even know if it's rare, but that's my only other sealed one. (Is it at all rare?)

Well, if anyone wants to get one it's $35.

Yeah, keeping game sealed is just...weird. I mean these are games, not figurines or something like that. Heck, even if I know I won't get to play a game anytime soon(quite common with all the games I pick up), I still open it. It's like a ritual. If feels good to open something you just bought. Although with all the used games I buy, I spend more time removing stupid, annoying stickers than removing shrink wrap

Did you know Ebay was originally started as place to auction pez dispensers (and other collectibles). In the early days, I auctioned off an old pez dispenser I got at a flea market...vintage Green Hornet...and it got me around $300...paid $1. Looks like the same pez dispenser goes for a lot less on Ebay these days...probably has to do with a much larger supply now that the Ebay community is so much larger.

I also think keeping games sealed is silly. I'm putting together a full set of NES games, and sealed games go for insane prices. $400 for a sealed Zelda when the exact same game is $10 if it's open and complete? Why?

Also, at least for the vintage games, keeping them sealed might be dangerous for long term collectibility as they have batteries inside the cart that may leak with age. Not all cartridge game have batteries in them, just the old games that had a save feature, especially RPGs.

Is the Duck hunt really "factory sealed" or has it been re-shrink wrapped? Looking at the seal of the wrap you can tell, if you know what to look for.

Yeah its got the seal across the back. It had the plastic hook on it but someone picked it off, the old adheisive is still there.

I'm not sure if its rare but I think the only one I have yet to be opened is Digital Devil Saga: Shin Megami Tensei (the box set one).

EDIT: and as for kick in the pants stupidity, i opened the collectors Zelda:Ocarina of time, Ten Year Old McFarlane Toys, as well as the ever rare Vulcan Rare Action Figure, from MGS, which cameos in the Sequel for the PS2

Those MGS Action figures are worth money now?

I have every single one from the original series (including the 3 "stealth" variants) still sealed and tucked away in a box somewheres. Hmmm. Maybe I should sell off my toy collection when I go home to visit the folks this summer. *shrug*

Oh and I don't think I have any sealed games. I have TONS of "rare" games, but I like to play my games, not look at 'em.

The rarest "game" I have sealed is the SNES redesign with Zelda:LttP. Other than that, the only other games I have sealed are Mark of Kri and Jampack something 2004, neither of which are rare or valueable.

I guess they don't realize that most of us have played these games, and only picked them up because of value.

Any good stories behind it?

When I was working at gamestop some guy came in and went "Hey I don't want these do you?" And 1 was mario bros/duck hunt cart and the other was the factory sealed duck hunt.

It was awesome.

Lots of sealed games and lots of opened games, all of which are in mint conditon. A few that come to mind that I know are sealed are:

Panzer Dragoon Saga
Phantasy Star IV
Disgaea
Resident Evil 4 Limited Collectors x2 w/no dents :)
Zelda Collectors Edition GC

Lots more. Of all my sealed games, I have open copies to play. Panzer Dragoon Saga would be the only exception. I had another copy, but it was 'misplaced' in my last move.

I wonder how many people bought a copy of DOOM Collectors Edtion for XBox and stashed it away. I bought a copy. Opened it, played it, and loved every minute of it. Worth the price of admission for me. A shame to see it selling for $9.99 now.

Nice topic. Interesting reading the comments between collectors and gamers. Gamers claim not to collect, but play. Collectors claim to collect and play. I suppose I would be in the latter category.

Probably either CIMA: The Enemy, or Dokapon: Monster Hunter, both for GBA.

Neither are really all that rare, but they're two of the only games I have sealed, and I intend to open and play them, one day.

And hey, sqyxzylyx: for goodness' sake, open and play some of those gems!

I got some good hook-ups back when I worked at Funcoland (which was eventually absorbed by GameStop): a foursome of Super Famicom complete games including DBZ, a too-scratched-to-take Game Gear, a mint copy of Whizz for SNES, and mint copies of Lunar I and II for Sega CD after we stopped taking those games in trade.

I have a ton of sealed games from all platforms...just because I haven't gotten around to playing them yet, but I will. But I have to say the best game I have is a sealed Custer's Last Stand for the Atari 2600 that I got at a flea market around 15 years ago for $4.00.
