Has there ever been just something that stands out to you that a developer might've missed that just.. bugs the holy hell out of you? I've got two that I can think of off the top of my head..

- In NYC (not sure about other levels/locations since I don't have a PS2), building shadows, for the most part, do not cast shadows on your car in Gran Turismo 4. You can notice a tiny bit of difference, but for the most part, nothing changes.

- In Doom 3 on XBox, your footsteps sound the same whether you're running, walking, or creeping along (the footsteps always sound like you're running).

What about you guys?

I notice stuff... but I'm not so anal as to remember it long after I put down the game.

I look for more glarring flaws in things like game play. I could rant for 10 minutes strait why the Sims is a bad game... hell, it isn't a game. Its so much like life, its worse than life. You have about 10 minutes to do a full days work. You get up, it takes you 1 hour to get dressed, you need to eat, so you spend half an hour microwaving oatmeal. Your ride comes, but you have to go to the bathroom, that takes you 1 hour to actually get to the bathroom and another half hour to go. By the time you get to the door, you're fired because you missed 3 days of work.

..so.. you don't like the game.. because the Sims, a simulation game, a game about life, a game that simulates life, isn't a game?

Do you have all simulation games? :P

I just don't get how the series is so popular... I thought making the house was pretty fun... I tried to play it honestly for about 2 hours until I snapped. I just started locking people in small rooms with 4 ovens and putting them in pools and removing ladders...

I loved SimCity. SimTower is one of my all time favorites. I just can't see why people like the Sims...

I don't like in Halo 2 when I shoot a rocket (or any gun) and I get killed before the animation finishes that my rocket goes back inside the launcher. :x

It's mostly females (not to stereotype the series or anything). It's just a nice escape from reality. I have the original and all of the expansions.. I think I bought Livin Large, House Party, Hot Date, then my mom took over, buying Makin Magic, Superstar, Unleashed, Sims 2 and University.. she loves playing it. Just a good escape from reality, I guess. I personally lost interest in it years ago.. I do play Bustin' Out on XBox from time to time, my guy's in the criminal lifepath.. SimCity 4 rocks, you can import your sims in and they'll get a job and tell you their opinions on the city and whatnot.

The big question is which people. The big factor in the Sims success is appealing to female players. Much like the surprise appeal of DOA Volleyball among women, relationship management scores high in that portion of the populace. This is the same difference that puts men in the position of saying, "I'd rather break up with you now and never have sex with you ever again than watch this movie."

I'm not kidding when I say the most avid male Sims players I know are gay. I'm sure there are some hetero sorts who find some enjoyment in the Sims but without women that series would never have sold enough to merit a single expansion pack.

Funny you should mention the footsteps thing. I was just noticing recently that this is an obsession for Tommy Tallarico but then much of his life is given to fighting for audio resources.

Kind of a shame they didn't do more on Doom considering the 3D audio features of that system. On the other hand, getting it onto 64 MB was a tight squeeze.

The shadows on GT4 aren't a surprise. Doing shadows well can eat up a lot of resources in return for most people failing to notice. It won't be until the coming generation of hardware makes good shadowing easy that a lot of people will look at current stuff and notice what was missing.

its all a matter of preference.... like i really am not a fan of RPG games... or even any of the simCity games.... but i know tons of people that are... its just whatever type of game that floats your boat. I could spend countless hours wondering why turn based rpgs are fun... but eh... its whatever you like.

DooM 3
Technology was created to break a barrier between our realm and that of H3LL, but, noone could figure out how to attach a flashlight to a gun? No.
Attach it to a helmet (like in Aliens), or a shoulder/chest armor? No.
Duct tape in the future? No.
Nightvision? No.
Holding the flashlight in one hand while you hold your pistol in the other (crossed at the wrists like police officers do)? No.

Hmmm...riiiiiiight.

Probably the other biggest thing I never could "get" even thou it wasn't a mistake thing was how a "scientist" like Gordon Freeman could be such a B@D@$$ as to take on every Alien, Marine, etc. and come out on top. Yeah, yeah, "you" the player are Gordon Freeman, but still. Perhaps this had something to do with the fact that I played SiN before I ever played Half-Life and some of the things people thought were so great in HL I had seen in SiN. Not to mention SiN's netcode was VASTLY superior to that of HL, and, it has location based damage (head shots did more than chest shots, which did more than leg shots). Damage also had visual feedback via texture changes to damaged enemies. Okay, I'll just say it John R. Blade 0wnz Gordon Freeman...hehe. :}~~~

It could just be me, but on a particular early map on Ridge Racers on the PSP, when you get to a certain area, the game seems to guide you trough a tough turn even if you are supposed to crash straight into a wall.

LMAO...

Actually, I didn't know about that part when I first played the game. I just enjoyed the game for the gameplay and features (many of which had not been seen before, but have been used MANY times since in FPS games). It reminded me of the fun I had playing Duke Nukem, Blood and Shadow Warrior. All those games had a main character that was a b@d@$$ but with a humorous bit 'o tude (ala Kurt Russell in Big Trouble in Little China, or, Ash from Army of Darkness).

SiN offered a level of "fun" missing from many of today's games in that deparment. Everyone now is a "hard boiled" b@d@$$ that seems to have little time for humor/quips/etc. I guess that's one of the reasons I always liked Spider-Man in the comics. Even when it looked like he was about to get his butt kicked, he would still talk a bit of smack. :}

In Midnight Club 3, you can wreck your car in cruise mode and it'll reset the damage, giving you a fresh car..

yet if you drive too far in the water, your car is "totaled" and you must restart the cruise..

The ragdoll physics in the ps2 transformers game always bothered me, it was just weird seeing a robot weighing a couple of tons going limp after getting hit.

That was complained about a shitload when it came out on PC, you're a bit late. They did it that way to make the game scarier obviously.

I don't really mind pushing F/White button (or is it black?)

the fact that Xenosaga 2 confirmed my suspicions that Namco will just keep throwing more pseudo-spiritual/Sci-Fi gibberish into their game in order trick people into thinking that they are watching something deep. oh yeah, and just about everything else in xenosaga 2.

They set up so much in part 1...part 2 only raises more questions.

*raises hopes for Xenosaga 3 even more*

That is part of the effort for green-positive cars. This covers construction as well as emissions. The car bodies ar emade from a revolutionary material derived from vegetable fiber. Unfortunately it also means the cars are water soluble.
