View Full Version : Bad Gamestop Experiences
I am in a horrible mood. We just got a new Manager at the gamestop I work at, and he is already taking over. I am the 3rd Key and he dropped my from 30 hours per week to 12 and brought a friend from another store in and gave him over 20 hours. Is there anything I can do about this?

I'm sure you can get a better job then Gamestop, they pay squat. Jobs like that aren't something you make a career out of (at least for your sake I hope not).
Just quit and find a better job. The magazine rack thing was more of a joke/homage to DDF

If you start getting small amounts of hours, it's definitely time to look for another job if the district manager won't help you out. Since you have some video game retail experience, EB would definitely hire(just leave Gamestop on a good note, for the reference).

Well, Being the 3rd Key I get more money then most of the Game advisors make. I get $9.40 an hour, and the GAs make $7.75-$8.00 an hour.

Mind if I ask how old you are? If you are over 18 you could probably make better money and not deal with assholes.

I'm 19. I've applied a million places and never even get a call.

I don't know what state you live in, but here in CA that's not really much money to be making. Now if you are like 16 or something with little expierance then I guess 9.40 is decent, but if you are older and looking for a real job, you should definately consider finding something that pays better. Just my opinion though.

Well its not glamorous but I used to be a telemarketer which is really low key and you make around $15 an hour.

wow, $15 an hour? How many hours did you get per week? And where do you go to find a job like that?

Take it from me:
Wait around a week or two and see if things pick up as it might be a slower sales week. The company always dicked around with what were acceptable sales figures. If it doesn't get any better then leave. You'll just be putting yourself through aggravation, especially if the manager is a dick. Trust me, I know.

Sales have been GREAT this week, with the PSP and Doom 3 :\

I preordered Harvest moon at gamestop and the dude manager guaranteed me a cow, and when i went to pick it up no cow.
a few weeks ago i went to EB right after VJ2 dropped and the dude there tried to tell me it was still $40.

talk to your DM and the other manager(s). Or, go directly to this new manager with how you feel, maybe he didn't know you were running 30 hours and is used to a 3rd key that only worked pt? If there are other issues deeper then this (which might be true since you're in a bad enough mood to call the post 'bad gamestop experiences') think about how long you've been there/in management and if the shine's worn off enough to look elsewhere.
unless you work in PA...my old boss who was a real prick and knew it moved to an mit possition up there, in which case, get back to me

Well Flea, as you go through life, you'll notice that there are certain jobs that it's all who you know. Your job is one of them. Let's be honest, whenever there is a new boss, things will change. He or she will always bring in their buddies, and screw over the old cast. You can always ask, say you really need the money, and I always get my 30 hours. It might work, but it might not.
I would keep an eye out for other jobs. But, seriously, you really aren't going to make a great career out of gamestop. You may want to think about going to school for a degree. If that's out, you may want to find something that is a bit more stable long term. The best jobs it seems in Michigan right now for non degree younger people might be in a warehouse. My brother works in one, makes about $11 with some nice benefits. Though I make more just sitting at my desk typing on CAG with a degree (though, I have to get back to work now) :)
I feel for you... here in NY, it's a huge pain now trying to get a job for people in your situation.
I highly suggest getting a degree... even just an Associate's... if you can.
I struggled for years trying to find a decent job throughout school... but since I got my Associate's in January, I have my choice of around $30k/year office jobs. Not exactly glamorous, but it's a calming feeling knowing there's always some job out there for me.
