I know its not me. I haven't even turned on my Xbox, GameCube, or PS2 in about a month. I just got FFXI too and I haven't had a chance to start my account up. I hate college.

I totally agree...college sucks hard if you are a gamer. I do my best but I still can't more than 2 hours or so of gaming in during the week. Hell, like RvB I think my cube has sit idle for about 6 weeks now.

Im as "hardcaore" as i can be. i Consider hardcore as being of sane mind to like what you want to, and not compltetly belittle what you dont like. I liked Metroid prime, no matter how "uncool" it apparently is to like it, and im also not a hug Halo fan and not bcause people think it fun to hate the game. When i have time between GF, Work and general upkeep i Play, read and enjoy videogames. Hell, im even here while im at work :)

college sucks hard if you are a gamer.

It only gets worse. In grad school, you get no games and no sleep. For the past two weeks, I've been averaging three hours of sleep a night from Monday through Wednesday. The end of the week tends to be a bit lighter, allowing me more sleep. As for games, there's little time for that either. I haven't started half the games I got for Christmas. However, I did I start playing KotOR over Christmas break, and I was so worried I wouldn't finish it before I came back to school. I knew that as soon as I returned, the work would pile back up. I finished it the night of the first day of classes, just before the first homework assignment. It was a close one.

For me a "hardcore gamer" is someone who loves and appreciates games, and makes it their business to know the latest news and upcoming games even though they may not be able to play as much as they want. They also buy lots of games.

I consider myself a hardcore gamer, but i dont think i fit with the definition. Im also a college student, and while i dont get to play videogames as much as I like, i can normally fit in a few hours a day. Oh im also going to school as a game art major, hmm, i dont know if that has something to do with it or not...

Just to keep it going! Who do you think qualifies as a hardcore gamer that you have seen on CAG?

Among my friends, I'm considered hardcore, as none of them are really into games, but compared to a lot of people here, I got nothing. I also haven't done anything with myself for almost a year, so I had assloads of time to play.

Hmmm... if you think of a casual gamer who buys a PS2 and the latest Madden for it every year, and who thinks PS2 is cool and GCN is kiddy....

Then you take teh opposite and there you have it... at least a half-hardcore gamer :)

I thought this was going to be a thread about gaming while performing deviant sex acts. Oh, well...........

But as long as I'm here....Is anything labeled "Hardcore" a good thing?

Hardcore drinker?
Hardcore smoker?
Hardcore mastrubator?
Hardcore studier?

I guess it can modify a good thing too, but there's still the connotation that the 'thing' is done to such a degree so as to make the doer some sort of freak, or social invalid, unable to relate to anything or anyone that is not-hardcore on the same subject.

Is hardcore just another word for "Extreme"? I think so. It just sounds more cool to refer to oneself as 'hardcore' in order to convey the idea that he specializes in a subject to the point of being superior to others. Right before he jumps on his skateboard and goes to hang out at Gamestop and discuss the merits and insider rumors of the latest obscure fantasy adventure game soon to be released on such-and-such date. Take a freaking shower once in a while you smelly bastard!

I'm a hardcore gamer cuz I:

1.) Keep up with videogame news/games/products.
2.) Am obsessed with videogames.
3.) Buy games even though I don't have time to play them. (College + GF + Work + College sports).
4.) Can picture nothing better than a cold rainy day in September where I sit in the dark playing games all day, uninterrupted by the daily callings of life.

Having 215+ games and not realizing you'll never play them all because there are never going to be as many "snowed in" weekend or "too hot to go outside" weekends in 5 years to play what you have let alone what you keep buying.

I did like the PS2/Madden & GCN "kiddie" statement. You might be a casual gamer if you have a PS2 and buy Madden every year for $49.99 and think the Cube is kiddie. That's a pretty damn accurate statement IMHO.

You're a hardcore gamer if you know how many "dots" (including the power pills) are on a Pac-Man board.

That definitely qualifies in my book
