With all the rumors going around, what do you all think about Nintendo gracefully stepping aside and allowing all of there it properties go to Microsoft. Then they could concentrate on there handheld system. Nothing about there new system even sounds good to me. Just wondering what you all think.

"Gracefully step aside?" Hardly. Nintendo's a real big company thats doing FAR to well as a company to "step aside" or do anything near it. If anything Nintendo is at its most active in a while... they finally have a direction to go... and they've made that direction clear.

Well said, as always, pumbaa.:applause:

Nintendo is the furthest from the three companies from the state that Sega was in when they collapsed (as far as Sony's and M$'s videogames arms go). And there are big changes coming, and they seem to be much in Nintendo's favor.

Nintendo doesnt have any third party software developers left. All they have is there own redundant games. How many more mario karts can they keep making?

Namco, Capcom, Sega, THQ . . . And Nintendo can make as many Mario Karts, Zeldas, and Marios as they please. Because unlike other developers their sequels aren't stagnant attempts to cash in on a franchise.

 a ahahahaha!!!

That sounds like angry, fanboy talk to me! What do you call F-Zero GX, Zelda: FSA, Zelda: Minish Cap, Donkey Konga, StarFox: Assault? Guess what? Those were not developed by Nintendo! What do you call Resident Evil 4, Viewtiful Joe, Killer 7, NBA Street V.3 (with Nintendo Characters), Fight Night Round 2 (with Super Punch-Out), DDR with Mario, the rumored to be announced at e3 Karaoke Revolution with Mario (using the MP6 mic - Nintendo has made available the voice recognition software for any developers who want it), etc... This is just a small sampling of what is in the pipes. Then you have the amazing third party support for the DS... I mean, you have seriously got to be kidding me!

And yhou said they have nothing left in them... Oh boy, don't even get me started there... (and I won't start, because that would be a ridiculous run-on paragraph - let's just say it would put the third party statement to shame).

And you keep mentioning a rumor. Like I asked before, did your kid brother tell this to you? It seems to me that none of us have heard anything (especially anything credible). And believe me, if there were anything, pumbaa and I would know.

And they (Nintendo?) haven't said anything (as to their direction?)? Where have you been for the past two years? They have said plenty. Especially in the past month (of course, this stuff was nothing new, but people don't believe what they don't want to believe until it is spelled out for them).

But they are getting run into the ground. It seems like there last 2 systems have been one or two steps behind. Try and watch a dvd on the cube. Or try to go online. Not gonna happen. Why Nintendo thinks they know what is best. There stubborness is gonna be there downfall. They have said little about there sytem. I check out several sites a day. All i hear is that it's gonna be a revolution coming. Give me zelda , and Mario, the rest of the stuff is alright. Also how many of there exclusives are now on other systems. Quite a few. How many of you ar at home beating your congas to donkey kongs beat. Maybe a few kids. I like Nintendo but they better wake up, if not they will be the next sega.

If anything you'll see Microsoft games on a Nintendo console sooner than you'll ever see a Nintendo game on a Microsoft console, especially if you consider Ages of Empires and Zoo Tycoon have been slated for a DS. If you count the Rare games on GBA than its already happened.

And as for the "a lot of Nintendo fanboys comment," ummm... The only ones I know of in here that are known to be severe Nintendo devotees are myself and pumbaa, but both of us are actually logical in what we say about our devotion and we both own other companies' consoles and I know that I criticize Nintendo when it is deserved, but we just know quality when we see it...

They are a wonderful company, I play there games almost everyday. Not the cube but a Nintendo product. I even stated that it was a rumor. Please get that thru your heads. I think instead of developing new systems all the time Nintendo would be better served focusing on what they do well. Making games and there hand held market. Tomorrow I will try and post some links to the so called rumors. Thats all they are people. I thought it would be a cool topic to discuss. My bad. I would like to only buy 2 consoles next time around. Save some money.

So you make a false claim and ask our opinions, I correct you (as well as a handful of others), you make a couple of posts that amount to no more than, "It's not true!!!" with no facts/reasoning, so I give you a detailed post on what is just a glimpse into what the truth is, dcfox adds some points that I did not even think to say, you come back and rant that the eveidence given isn't good enough ("Who cares if such and such was a success, I want more/I want Nintendo to make games for my console!", so I patronize you and try to let you think that you are right, so you tell me that I cannot think (just because I don't want to explain myself to someone who says nothing more than, "nu-uh!"), so I make a tiny remark at the end of a legitimate post (in which I quote dc showing you that the opposite to what you claim is happening) that you are acting crazy, and now I am the one who "always" puts you down?

And then you dismiss me from the forums? Gosh... wel I guess I'll go now...

Boy, if you want to have a grown-up conversation, you know, one where you say more than "nuh-uh," and then if I'm not nice to you, go ahead and complain. Until then, stop whining.

Seriously, no one wants to get you upset. We don't want to have you tossing and turning all night thinking about Nintendo actually *gasp* surviving. But there are just a few specific points that everyone would be interested in. Like dc said, you called it rumor, but all that has been shown is your own idea. There is a difference between an "informed rumor" and just what you would like to happen. And believe me, there is no reputation saving here. They are quite strong and quite capable on their own.

But seriously... the "direction" I speak of is the whole innovation/"alternative gaming" thing we've been hearing about for so long... Starting with the DS. I don't know if its going to be successful... but its better than what we've had to work with before... that is a company simply resting on it laurels slowing losing relevance.

EDIT: Also... dmes, I'm not trying to be a smartass or anything... but if you reply to a post and than realize you have something else to say... just click the edit button and finish your thought in one post... all I'm seeing is a thread with like 3 divergent thoughts... take a breather and post it all in one. For a second I thought I accidentally stumbled upon the IGN forum. :)

I think Nintendo still got lots of juice in them. They may not be as dominant as they once were, but they will stay competitive and offer gamers something different. Although I see DS as another Virtual Boy; cool idea, good execution, but no legs for the long run.

Look, if this thread seems to have riled some people up, maybe it's because--for one thing--you're not saying anything new. In fact, you're spouting the same misinformed garbage that every ignorant MS or Sony fanboy spouts, and that "Nintendo is for teh kidz! Tehy will be on Xboxx sooon..." junk can be a self-fulfilling prophecy. So if you are indeed a big fan of Nintendo, let me set you straight on one vital point.

Being in third-place (and by a narrow margin, I may add) doesn't mean you're failing financially.

One more time: LESS CONSOLES SOLD DOES NOT MEAN LESS MONEY MADE.

That clear? Do I need to do the math for you?

Now maybe you have your reservations about some of the Big N's business decisions, and that's fair. If Nintendo manages to consistently miss the boat of every important gaming trend that they themselves do not create, they may be in trouble one day ... but that day ain't today. Or tomorrow. Or in the next five years. Or probably even in the five years after that.

Nintendo could have handled some things better the past two generations, but that makes them unique how? Yes, connectivity sucked ... but so does Sony's unsupported hard-drive and fugly online service, Microsoft's utter lack of Japanese support, and so on.

Every company gambles: sometimes they succeed, and sometimes they fail. So in the future, when you think about the things Nintendo has done wrong and how they're supposedly gonna be out of the business soon, I want you to remember the Sony Mini-disk Player. When you think about how revolutionary Xbox Live is, and how it sucks that Nintendo isn't online, I want you to think about how revolutionary d-pads, analog control, rumbling controllers, and four ports out of the box are.

Bottom line: whatever else happens, MS will NEVER own Nintendo. Period. To even think it's a possibility is to ignore Yamauchi telling Steve Ballmer to lick his little yellow balls.

FIN

EDIT: So I go watch "King of the Hill" and then finish writing my post ... and the topic is already a dead horse. Dag.

You bring up a good point, in fact Microsoft looses around $50 dollars or more on each xbox. But for there first console there coming out swinging. Yes they have big pockets to do that. But every mistake that they have made there fixing it. Alot more japanese programmers are signed on for the next xbox. I enjoy nintendo games and hope there around for many years to come. Seeing as how this thread was just a back and forth for a moment, I expected this to die if I stopped posting and just sent a PM. Obviously it did not, and so I just wanted to clarify some points that I said to demes...

I didn't take it as an attack, I'm not offended, nor on the offense/defense. I just saw the statement as erroneous (as it is apparent that others did, as well). And trust me, the only thing close to a fanboy in that thread is myself and pumbaa. The others are not. And they seem to feel the same way. I don't mind discussing ideas. But it just appeared to be presented as a real rumor (informed or based on someone's input from the industry... whatever...). But everything I know to be true (and I do know anything that is Nintendo) is completely opposite of what you said. And like dc pointed out, M$ properties have already headed to Nintendo. And this is really M$'s last chance at bat. If they don't do something right, Billy-boy is not going to keep dumping money into a bottomless pit. The Xbox has been a financial failure. PS2 hardware is in the same boat (even though they may have the clear lead in installed user base). The gaming arm of Sony (SCEA) is in a shambles that resmbles Sega (both of Japan and of America) when Bernie was at the helm and the DC was on the horizon, then he was fired, etc... Every Sony piece of hardware developed is crap (they even had a chance to fix the PSP for the U.S. launch - but refused - which leads me to...). Ken Kuturagi (and the rest of the company) have entered into the dangerous ideology of the Nintendo SNES era. They think they are invincible. Ken has called the flaws of the PSP to be "features" and that developers and consumers would have to get used to it. Unlike Samsung (why do you think Sony is no longer no. 1 with T.V.'s?) and Nintendo (both of whom have a "Zero Dead Pixel" policy), Sony thinks that dead pixels in the PSP are another "feature." Okay, they haven't directly stated this, but it is understood from their statements, as well as from the PSP manual. They have not given much regard to M$ in the coming generation, and both companies have completely disregarded Nintendo all together. They act as if Nintendo doesn't exist. Come on, who knows the videogames market better than anyone (as well as the mistakes not to do again)? But Nintendo is now slowly showing their hand (and rumors of future revelations are coming to light). M$ is now going to be in a reactionary phase in the months leading up to the Xbox2 (360, NeXtbox, Xenon, whatev...) and Sony has time... Except they are completely designed with the PS3. And even standing alone, without stiff competition, they are scared. They want a Blue-Ray drive in every console... a ahahaha... $1000+ product. Good luck having it alone drop to sub $200 by the PS3 release, let alone a top of the line piece of hardware that has one in it. Also, they have the fact to deal with that not a single console they have ever made was durable/quality material. And then there is the fact that M$ will have at least a full year to get an installed user base. That is going to hurt. Especially since it will also have at least a full year to manage some price drops.

Then you have Nintendo. Both companies disrearded them on every front. Online... Nintendo has been exploring online before either of these companies know what the videogames market was...

http://www.n-sider.com/articleview....leid=258&page=1

And the reason it isn't here yet, is that Nintendo is all about "user friendly". They have strived for "free" and "out of the box." It is finally coming. Plus, it will be based on a new technology (wait for the official announcement of DemaSked). Also, everyone thinks that Iwata's comments about "innovation" over "specs" means that the Revolution will be an innovative GCN quality (powered) console. But he never said that. He said that they are emphasizing innovation over specs. I think that M$ and Sony are both going to crap their pants at e3 when they realize that Revolution is at least as technically able as Xbox2, if not more. But that is just eyecandy/a bonus over the innovation. And this time I think the innovation they bring is going to be more than something that neither company can "me too/two." Gone are the days of 2 L/R buttons, 2 Analog sticks, 2 rumble motors, etc... (Nintendo got smart and made the DS with 2 screens, what is Sony gonna do, make a new PSP with 4 screens? jk...). But I think that the innovation is going to be a mixture of things tied into one package, with maybe one or two as a focal point (of which cannot just be slapped on, hap-hazardly to the already existing competitions' products). Anyway, I could go on all night, and I know that I am going to miss some really good points here, but in the end, Nintendo has constantly been the only ones who have been turning a profit every quarter and every year. The others are losing money. That alone being said, who cares if you were to remain "third place", if you are the only one making real success (feeding your pocketbook, while having the best to offer...).

Oh, and in addition, Nintendo's third party support hasn't been stronger since the days of the SNES dominated market. They have amazing alliances that they are building. They are still a proud company, but not the hard-headed company that Yamauchi knew. Iwata is a different animal. And that strength has only grown since the DS came out. And it seems to be strengthening more towards the anticipation of Revolution. Anyway, like I said... I could go on all night... I need some sleep.

Just wanted to let people know that there were some strong points discussed that were not posted in the thread before now...

resident evil 4
donkey konga
paper mario 2
baten kaitos
harvest moon (a little over a year ago)
metroid prime 2
pikmin 2

plenty of other games that look better on the cube compared to a ps2 like alien hominid, viewtiful joe 2, xmen legends

and not to mention some of the exciting upcoming titles like killer 7, fire emblem and legend of zelda (which will sell many copies and gamecubes)

id say they are doing alright

Maybe the next topic should be : CAn Nintendo ever make a decent controller.
man the cube controller is probably my favorite of the big 3, it fits so nice in my hands. not to mention the wavebird, which is IMHO the best wireless controller on the market

The PS2 controller is still my personal favorite. Though to be honest I se nother wrong with the Cube controller outside of the odd shaped buttons and inability to accuratly mimic PS2 ports but I don't often buy multi-platform games for it anyway.

As for Nintendo they've reportedly posted a better income this quarter than Sony's video game devision. This means they doing fine even in 3rd place simply because they arnt over extending themselves on highpriced investments like custom chips and multi-million dollar exclusivities. Seeing a better return on their investments means they have no reason to even become a 3rd party publisher for other systems. And I doubt they ever would consider it anywaysince they've vowed to never follow the path Sega went down (easy for them to say since they're much better off finantially than Sega ever was.)
