View Full Version : I got a new XBox...
With my warranty, I got a new one.
It was made in January 2005, and it's a Thomson, I think. Which got me worried. Plus, it's rather loud when reading discs... even louder than my used crappy 2002 one. Is it supposed to be like that.

They stopped making Thomson XBox's a long time ago.. I thought..

If it's manufactured in 05, it's likely not a Thomson...I think there's a Hitachi one going around now with a similar tray. Someone posted a pic of all 4 different DVD trays a while back, perhaps they could do so again.
As far as noise, I don't think I've ever heard two Xboxes that sound exactly the same. As long as you don't get DREs and doesn't drag out on load time, you should be fine.
It looks like the old Thomson, but there's a couple small holes on the edges.
I didn't even know there was a Hitachi drive. Hopefully, it doesn't suck.
Yes, it's definitely a Hitachi.
They read CD-RW and DVD-R perfectly. Doesn't read CD-R at all, though.
I've read different reviews of it online... from extremely reliable, to constant errors. So, meh.
It's been perfect for me so far, though. It's nice to be able to play ESPN games with no skipping. :)

When I got my Xbox..It was making noise with one paticular game (Medal of Honor). It was quiet with the other games. Needless to say, I got rid of the Medal of Honor game without playing it.

HOLY SHIT! Your Xbox reads CD-R's and DVD-R's?! Does that mean you can play burned games?
I don't know. It wouldn't be worth it for me to pirate games.
I need to have my own music in my games.

I noticed that you mentioned ESPN game sin this thread. So you're a woman who likes video games, sports, and wrestling. Wow.
I beg you to convert the rest of your gender to your beliefs. The world would be a much better place.

my copy of Doom 3 was doing that in my xbox(less than a year old). I returned that copy and got a new one that doesn't make a buzzing/vibrating noise.

Many girls like video games and sports. They're just not open about it.
I don't like wrestling. Haven't since November 2000. I just like bitching about it.

MS is using hitachi and samsung now....and supposedly they can both read dvd-r and cd-r, i guess i could test it out (if i really do have a hitachi)
edit:
here is the old picture of the 3 drives side by side (phillips, thomson, samsung)...and there is clearly a difference in the hitachi and thomson drives...hitachi is wider and has little divit hole things on the sides

hope this helps!

Sometimes its a manufactoring defect on the game that makes the buzzing sound.
Not the Xbox...

Haha... It seems that I'm one of the few people on the internet who actually enjoys the product (even Smackdown!). You should see this forum I go to, The Smart Marks. So many cynical people.
As for girls that like games and sports, it's weird. I know quite a few girls who played sports in school, but they don't like to watch them on TV. I can likely count the total number of female sports fans and wrestling fans I know on fewer than 2 hands. As far as video games, 99% of the female gamers I've met play only The Sims or DDR, with a few being into adventure and role playing games. Contrary to popular belief, none of them play Mary Kate and Ashley, Lizzie McGuire, or That's So Raven games, primarily because I waon't share my copies.
The only woman I've ever met who admits to liking sports, video games, and wrestling is my friend Tori, AKA Cherry Malone in New Midwest Wrestling, an organization whose shows I used to attend and I trained with for a brief time in Illinois. She's a wrestler, so obviously she likes wrestling... She loves football and the Tony Hawk games as well.
Sorry about my rambling. I just wanted to respond to what was said on the subject earlier. Back to the topic at hand.... which I know nothing about.
Heh, you don't know me from TSM.
I'm the one that wrote a WCW Thunder review there. Now, I'm banned for teasing one of the loser admins, and pissing off Dames. Oh well.
Most girl games that I know are into RPG's. Not many like sports. I'm actually not huge into most sports games either, but they're the only games most of my friends will touch.
