What are your predictions for what will happen at E3?
I found this list at GameDaily. (http://www.gamedaily.com/playstation2/feature/?id=593)
Now that the 2005 Game Developer's Conference has ended, all eyes are transfixed on this year's E3 in Los Angeles, California. The largest videogame trade show of the year, E3 is where the major publishers make the majority of their surprise announcements, and although I'll have to wait until mid May to find out the answers to all of my questions, I can at least speculate as to what sort of cool stuff we'll all see and hear, so I present to you some E3 predictions. Am I psychic or just have an inside track? Dial the 1-800 number to find out! Only $4.95 per minute!
Nintendo unveils movies that play on its DS system
Sony's been making a big stink about how its PSP hand held can play movies such as Spiderman 2 and Resident Evil, and Nintendo isn't going to sit idly by and allow its competitor to steal its thunder. At its press conference Mario and Co. will announce that the Nintendo DS is capable of movie playback and unveil a line of kid-friendly films that'll include Finding Nemo, Shrek and/or Shrek 2, and possibly The Incredibles. Oh, and every Pokemon movie ever made.
The odds of this happening are extremely good. Nintendo needs to respond to Sony, and after seeing a Half-Life 2 clip running on the DS at this year's GDC the system is definitely capable of quality video playback...just not PSP quality playback.
Ubisoft will announce a new Splinter Cell - Already confirmed via UbiSoft's release schedule for the next year.
At last year's E3 Ubisoft shocked the world by announcing a new Splinter Cell almost immediately after Pandora Tomorrow had been released. Chaos Theory didn't come out right away (it's scheduled to hit shelves March 28), but seeing a new game before I finished the previous one definitely caught me off guard. Since Ubi's now a major player in the industry, expect it to flex its muscle yet again.
Halo announced for Game Boy Advance or Nintendo DS
Ok so this one's a tad bit ridiculous, but after playing the excellent homebrew 2D version of Halo that's available online it's about time it's expanded upon and brought to a portable system. It'd rock for sure, but the chances of this happening are slim to none. However, it's always the most unlikely of announcements that make for the greatest surprises.
The Nintendo press conference will get rowdy
Last year's Nintendo press conference proved that even the most jaded game player is a fan boy on the inside. No matter what Nintendo did the crowd cheered, and when the new Zelda trailer was unveiled the place went nuts! People were crying!
This year, Nintendo will wow the masses with some serious Revolution talk, some tech demos, even more delicious GameCube Zelda footage, and some other neat stuff. Mario 128, anyone?
Next generation games will debut before E3
While E3 will be the place to be for everything Xbox Next/2/360, third parties will showcase next-gen content at pre E3 parties/events as early as April. However, all games will be under embargo and GameDAILY writers will need to sign non disclosure agreements, so we'll have played and/or seen some awesome stuff but won't be able to tell any of you about it.
Perfect Dark Zero will be playable
Microsoft's been one of the bigger jokes of the industry after spending hundreds of millions of dollars on Rare, and at this year's E3 Bill Gates and Co. will shut everyone up by unveiling a next-gen lineup that includes Perfect Dark Zero (as well as Kameo and possibly Killer Instinct).
It's probably a safe bet that Rare will have a presence at E3, but other websites say that every year. We just want to know that one of our favorite developers has been working on more than just It's Mr. Pants.
Sony's press conference will be partially interesting
Sony's not known for putting on thrilling pre-E3 demonstrations ("look at these statistics, we're number one, blah, blah, blah") but this year will be a bit different. Pressured by Microsoft to respond to the upcoming next-gen wars, we'll definitely see PS3 gameplay footage and possibly the machine itself. That will of course be followed by Kaz Hirai telling us that the system is capable of things it cannot really do. We're also going to see lots of PSP love as well as some cool peripherals.
Activision debuts a new Tony Hawk
It's official! Capcom's Mega Man and Street Fighter franchises are about to pass the torch of long-standing series to Neversoft and Activision's Tony Hawk games. This year, the next iteration in the extreme skateboarding series will feature robust online options where we can not only grind on rails and perform crazy tricks but also play a mean game of hacky sack. There'll also be real-time damage modeling so you can show others your worst bruises.
Ocarina of Time and/or Majora's Mask are announced for Nintendo DS
Come on! You know you want them! Since the DS is nothing more than a souped up Nintendo 64 that means it's more than capable of handling these all time greats and I think it's only a matter of time before Nintendo unveils them to the world. Might as well be E3. It would steal a lot of thunder from Sony, especially since there's not one PSP game that can compete with the greatness that is Ocarina.
