I'm kind of troubled by the upcoming "movie games" like the Godfather, Scarface, Jaws, etc. I'm pretty used to crappy movie based games when a new movie comes out but this new trend of making games out of pretty old movies is lame. Sure they might turn out decent (probably not) but for christ's sake is it that hard to use your imagination and create something unique? There's tons of imagination on these boards - hire one of us!

Good games (based on movies or not): good.
Bad games (based on movies or not): bad.
Easy, isn't it?
What a dumb poll. It can be a) good or b) bad. What it's based on has no bearing on that.

Apparently Francis Ford Coppola has a problem with the Godfather game too. He's pissed off about the whole thing.

I have a problem with movie games in general, because given the current state of the industry they often see it as a free ride. I mean I hear "The movie isn't as good as the book" all the time, so it isn't really surprising. The more layers in the middle, the less creativity.

I read that the Jaws game has nothing really to do with the movie except for the shark and that one of the characters in the game is the son of one of the characters in the movie. I say if you're going to stretch the movie license to the point of having non of the characters from the movie or having no plot elements from the movie, just make the game without the license. I really don't think people will be more inclined to pick up the game just because it's called Jaws rather than something else. As for the Godfather and Scarface game since they both deal with the movies to some extent, I guess its justifiable. But there's still no reason why they can't create a similar game without the movie license.

I gotta say that in the past, 99% of them were craptastic.
But some of the more recent Star Wars games have been quite good, dare I say great?
(Actually the Super Star Wars games back on SNES were pretty tight too....)

Star Wars games have always been better than the average movie game. The Super Star Wars games were great, and X-Wing and Tie Fighter were also great.
