2004 FYE Trade-In Prices - LIST HERE (Farewell!)

I went to Saturday Matinee (FYE) last night. I'm glad to see that even though a few FYE stores went out of business, it didn't effect their trade-in prices that much. Here's what I traded:

Room Zoom (Xbox) - $26.00
Space Channel 5: Special Edition (PS2) - $12.00
Magic Pengel: The Quest For Color (PS2) - $15.00
Chaos Legion (PS2) - $10.00

I only gave them Disc 2 of Space Channel 5: Special Edition (PS2), and those idiots didn't even realize it. They gave me $12.00 for it. Now if I can only find another instruction manual and box art to Space Channel 5: Special Edition (PS2), I can trade in Disc 1 to them and get another $12.00! :D
In other words:

no... the game is listed in their system as "O.C. Racing" or "D.C. Racing" (or racer...)

when you have them scan it in.... it'll come up under that name for 27.00.

just make sure they dont flake out if they scan it and see the different name...

not that they should... but some geniuses are likely to be all like... "ummm hey... why didnt it... ummm...."

i usually try and nullify that buy suggesting that "O.C. Racing" may have been short for what the game couldve been called while still in development.

same goes for Sneakers when it rings up "Nezmix"

Yep, just did this at FYE tonight. I didn't see any signs or anything about it, but when I asked about it at the register, they let me pre-order a PSP with a $25 deposit using my store credit. They're just selling the standard $250 launch bundle.

I know but I tried it out several times last week. It seems like FYE raised the price on some titles (Drake, Unreal II, etc) and dropped the price on other (Motor Trend Lotus, 1080 Avlanche, etc).

Yep this is a blockbuster exclusive game.
They don't care that it says "exclusive blockbuster" game on the cover.

There are 2 steps you must take though:

1) Ask the clerk if you can look at the disc to make sure theres not scratches and make sure it comes with the manual.

2) It would be a good idea to have a few empty Xbox or GC cases sitting around to put them in before you goto trade them in.

the only other FYE in Manhattan is the one on 59th and Lexington.
Sadly, they don't take trade-ins.

Also... that one jacks prices up by at least 10% or more on everything game related.

The only real downside is that the FYE by me is that it's a bit of a drive and they didn't have much of a selection. Maybe if I went back with a couple Drake's and Freestyle Street Soccers I wouldn't mind paying a bit extra for things.

FYE is riddled with nincompoops.

The preorder deal in the system doesn't seem to be keen on which game comes with the package... I think they either

1) expect you to choose a game when you pick it up on the 24th

or

2) don't know yet from corporate which game they are giving out in the package since it is not yet advertised

so you're best bet is to put and extra $5 down on a particular game that you KNOW do you want in the deal, (like i did for Lumines.)

then when the system and the games in, and they try to force you to take something you dont want in the package, (like if they decide Madden is the game with the bundle) just point out that you'll take your preorder game in the bundle instead, and point out that the flyer never specified which game you were supposed to get.

I know its cool for me....

Just got in on this for less than a $50 investment doing trade-ins.

Any limit in terms of store stock? (Can't have more than 2 copies, etc). Another one near me actually did pay full cash but limited to just 1 of the same title. So if someone already traded that title in, they wouldn't take it. Now they don't take any videogames at all.

Right now there limit is 2 (since they are swamped with games from the holiday season) but I've come to know the people working at the store over the past few months so they usually accept my games unless they are just too full (usually 7 or more) at the moment.

It wouldn't work, FYE rebates require the UPC code from the package. You could sell the game on EBay/Half.com but I don't think FYE will accept a game without a UPC code for credit.

That's what I did last year when they had Spy Hunter 2 for PS2 free after rebate. I bought it, played it for a few hours, sold it on Half.com for $14 and got my Rebate Check a few weeks later.

I went in today, to yet another Fye's, and they did something different today. After the receipt printed, they turned it around and stamped it with the register. For all of my other trade-ins, they did nothing of the such. I'm assuming that this is just the policy of this one store. Any comments? Also, the FYE receipts I have, I have collected from 3 different FYEs...should this matter when I use them all at one FYE later? And finally, my GCN Sega Soccer Slam did not take in the computer.

They do that to me about 50/50. I think they call it "franking". I guess it's their way of knowing if it's "legit" but none of the employees seem to care if it's on the back or not. Once or twice, they've actually messed up my credit cause it gets stuck in the machine when they try to do it.

I'm not even sure if FYE uses that barcode at the bottom of the credit slip. I think all mine does is type in the amount of the credit slip? Anyone ever take notice?

Only the emloyees that know what theyre doing seem to do it, its useful if your reciept gets erased. Years ago this saved me from losing $24 because the whole front disappeared (as it does when you leave the slip in your wallet) and all I had was a blank reciept with $24.00 printed on the back

They will PM with a flier (which you won't have) or calling an EB that has them in stock. (Unlikely) However, you can get them 2 for $30 at TRU, which is OK, but not as great.

fye won't take games without the instructions. The standard Blockbuster cases don't leave room for the instructions (unless it's the smaller GameCube instructions). I haven't had any problems switching out the case with a standard black dvd case.

One way you can get free xbox cases is by just asking your Gamerush employee if they have any extras.

If so, is there an easy (and cheap) way to purchase blank x-box cases?

I've been able to trade in GC and XB Freestyle in the original blockbuster cases at three different stores without a problem, just make sure they have instructions before you buy them. I'll check tonight and see if FYE is still giving $17 apiece.

I take off the back sticker as well as the price sticker on front. You can't do much about the BB Exclusive tagged onto Freestyle Street Soccer. I got it for 5, no instructions, and had no problem at FYE. So I guess its YMMV on the BB used prices.

One disturbing thing was that I saw a sticker on the Xbox Unreal II saying that it was on sale for $16.99 (web site says $19.99). Did it drop in price since the 2nd? (someone got $18 for it then)?

It was a very strange time at the local FYE actually. The district manager was there and was ragging on the employees, talking about how the store was dragging down the region. Not selling enough magazine subscriptions and other useless crap like DVD player lens cleaners (I got a hard-sell for one of them from the employee that was helping me out after the DM talked to him). Also, the last time I was there one of the employees tole me that they could put my store credit onto gift cards so that I could use it onlone or at other stores. The guy I was talking to was cool about it and would have done it, but got a phone call and had one of the other employees try and do it. Well of course she asks the DM, who tells her that it's not allowed. Bah.

Anyone know if you can return stuff bought at an FYE to Wherehouse?

Spoke too soon. Went to Gamestop yesterday and they were selling it for $14.99 or $12.99 used. I pointed out it is $9.99 on their website to no avail. Dumb, but I already knew they were.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and Drake is down to $9 in my local FYE, unfortunately. Malice and Sneakers, at least according to people over the phone, will still fetch $27, and Freestyle Street Soccer GCN $17.

thank you guys so much for all of the info and help with FYE. i have about 240 in credit there, and i only spent around 40-50 bucks and 20 in blockbuster credit. i will just pay 60 bucks+tax for the rest of a psp (bundled with game) and in the end, i got my psp for 50% off. i have a psp and 3 games Paid in Full, 4 xbox games Paid In Full, and a extra $150 at gamerush thanks to CAG. thank you guys so much.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one that was denied due to the "exclusive" sticker. Sucks since the cashier already scanned it and it showed up at $17, but the manager saw it and told her not to take it. Ugh!

The 1st thing they always tell me before i hand over the games "you know this is for store credit ,right". This has happened to me everytime i've gone & i have over $1200 credit there.
