Wow.... This thread has clearly been of great importance and value to a lot of people...

I had no idea that it'd see nearly over 35,000 hits by the end of 2004.

I hope this thread continues to live on under its foster parent StriderTurbulence, as he has taken over some time ago....

Just wanted to update here... let eveyone know how proud I was of everyone for making the best of this highly profitable and enjoyable trade-in oppertunity...

I know I have... through 2004 alone, at multiple FYE's, I've gotten DS's, PS2's, amazing Xmas gifts for everyone I know, a gigantic boost to my own library, and even gaming gifts for charity.... THOUSANDS of dollars worth of goodies... for barely $200 after all was said and done... travel and a little time each week my only efforts... BUT I HAVE MY FELLOW CAGers TO THANK FOR LISTING WITH ME!

These trade-in deals have been priceless to me... and I wish that they remain as dear to eveyone else throughout a safe and Happy 2005.

I traded in 5 games, a few weeks ago, made a thread about it. Im glad they are strict on used trade ins, cause i picked up viewtiful joe in perfect shape except a small small mark on the disc.

I didn't scam them either with sealed games, after saying i would trade them in, the manager further said "well since they are sealed i can take them as in store credit."

I've never receive full $49.99 return credit for any sealed trade ins I've done at FYE. I never told them they were returns, all I said was that I'd like to trade them in. I figured I'd let the manager make the decision since I think only mgrs are allowed to do trade ins (I've been told that at a couple of them). Never received "return credit". I wasn't expecting to as I figured someone could really get in trouble when they audit the store if they gave you full credit w/o a receipt. And, let's face it, FYE will most likely never re-sell the game you've returned. I don't think they do big videogame business.

On the other hand ... the best FYE trade in credit (no lie) that I ever received was $26 for RTX Redrock for PS2. This was when it just dropped to $19.99 at BB. I got it w/GGC, went home, played for an hour maybe, went to FYE and traded it in for $26. They lowered the trade in price to $8.50 the next day (probably even less now). That game dropped in price like 2 weeks after it was released. One thing I've noticed ... it's not the rarity of the game at FYE, it's how recently they perceived it to have been released. The "newer" ones will most of the time be worth more (although they're aware of the $9.99 titles, I think and one manager did give me a speech about how sports games won't be much because they drop in price real quickly).

I think what OC meant was that some people have been receiving full price in credit back if the games were sealed instead of used trade in credit (full "return" credit would've been $29 or something) but he only received $7.50 for his sealed game which is the used credit.

That's why I love FYE, even if you have to have some titles rejected by the store every so often (the ones that give out cash usuaslly are picky about the amount of copies they can keep) and the fact that their selection of games is mostly mainstream. It's all good in the end.

I didn't trade any games in today, but we went to FYE and traded in a bunch of my girlfriends old cds. I can confirm that they ring up the same as wherehouse.com suggests. Hopefully they get the game prices back up soon.
Some of their used games prices are ridiculous. They actually have used games for $49.99. Who would pay full price for a used game?
They do have a decent deal going in with a $30 rebate on MVP baseball 2004. We got that. After I trade it in at gamerush and get $25 credit plus the $30 cash rebate, I'll have actually made a little money on the deal.

This is odd...two demo discs apparently rung up at $8.50 each according to the (fine) girl behind the counter.

Her manager looked them over, saw the word demo, and handed them back.

The discs were Lucas arts experience (.01 at BB) and Rainbow six companion demo disc (.99 at BB).

Man my fye gives horrible trade in. I asked the guy that the cash register how much Breakdown and Halo are. He said 7 dollars for breakdown which is about right but they still sell the game for 49.99 and he said 7.5 for Halo. Halo for 7.5 is horrible, I could get it for 15 dollars at gamestop and Eb.

I don't know if this is nationwide, or if this has to do with them not selling games anymore. I'm going to save my credit for Mega Man Collection, which should come out next week.

A lot of FYE's website prices are outdated, so don't go by that route. Check the prices in the store instead. I've seen RPG Maker II with a $43.99 price tag. The price could be outdated, but it should go for $26 trade in credit. I'm basing this on my experience with games I've trade in for $26 (Fatal Frame II, Go GO Hypergrind, NCAA Football 2004) that were $43.99 when they put them on the used games shelves.



I'll check out Culdecpt and Unison tommorow since I forgot about that those. If Unison and Culdecpt really do have $20+ values, I'm buying a few copies to put towards an XBOX.

Here's the deal with the Tetris/Star Wars combo...
They typically don't take any "promo" games, but that one does have a bar code on it, and it is in their system. Some employees won't take it back (like the one I tried selling my last copy to in New Jersey), some will. You just have to find one that's disgruntled enough, I guess.

I did this trade in about a month and a half ago, and FYE is notorious for taking their good old time dropping the prices on their games.

I know Winback and Galerian ASH have an under $20 used price tag, so you wouldn't get more than $15 (the chances of that are unlikely, but I know a couple of games that had were being sold for just $2-3 lmore than what they give you) for each for those games.

I'd say it should be in stores for at least a week at the most. 1080 is a fairly manistream game so EB should have a decent stock, but all it takes is one determined reseller (and there are lots of 'em) to hit up several EB stores of all their copies.

I live in Olympia, WA. They didn't have the tag marked, I had to call EB first to ask, the guy there looked in the computer. I asked about Wario Wario but thats still full price. Since EBgames.com has Wario World and Counterstrike (Xbox) for 9.99, expect those to drop soon in store.

You guys should also check for used copies of black and bruised for the gamecube, as I said earlier, it fetches 27 bucks.

Battle Engine Auila--rung up at full price in store and $19 at wherehouse.com. Could be a $26 canidate and goes for $13 (XBOX) at EB and PS2 Aquila is $8 at gamestop.

Beach Spikers on Gamecube rung up at $49.99, but no price on wherehouse.com. It's $13 at both EB and Gamestop.

And I seen a copy of Roadkill on gamecube new (in the value games section)for $15. I think I'll buy that tommorow and pick up 3 good $9.99 psone/Xbox/PS2 games (which will then be reduced to $5 each because of the Blowout Sale) and sell Roadkill to FYE for $24, basically getting those 3 games for about $2. the one near me will give you 75% of whatever the trade-in value is in cash...while another one near me, but further, wont give you cash...either way, if you're into anything that fye sells (such as videogames, cds, dvds), its not really worth it to take the cash....just buy something that makes sense...use your credit on something there only if its cheaper then anywhere else or if you can't find it anywhere else (which is the case a lot of times with me)

These are the Wherehouse.coms trade in prices. I'm not sure if they cross over. Are the trade in prices on Wherehouse.com the same as in store? If they I'll be picking up copies of Smashing Drive for the xbox.

i went to trade in some games at fye today and they wouldn't accept my clone wars/tetris (even though it had a upc), and my black & bruised for the gamecube b/c it was a "used" copy. wtf? every game that is traded in is considered "used." i didn't understand what the manager said, but didn't want to argue. ah well, i'll just try again another day :)

mine did the same thing a couple weeks ago with go go hypergrind...pissed me off....the bastard looked at it and said, "i cant take this", i was like, "why not, its in perfect condition"....he then said, "we don't buy used games"...i was like, "huh...that doesnt make any sense...you've bought used games from me before in the past, and you're accepting other used games from me right now"...he then said, "sorry, we dont buy or sell used games"...so i sat there for a minute thinking to myself...all a while the bastard is buying other used games from me...i went to the used games section and grabbed a game w/ the sticker "used" on it and said, "explain this"...thats when some fat girl jumped in and said, "i think i know what hes talking about"...she then went on to explain something that had nothing to do with buying or selling used games...(she works there)...after 20 minutes of talking about it...the guy finally said that he wouldnt buy or sell that particular game because he felt that i wasn't the only one who played that game (i did buy it from eb and it was used, but in top notch condition with no noticable used marks...not even if i were to have been the one to use it...and before you say something about the stickers, i "goo-goned" them off)....of course i then did the right thing and lied to him and said, "i am the only one whos played that game, and i only played it once"....he said, "sorry, i cant take it"...so i just told him that id be coming back tomorrow to trade it in when hes not around....i know, im an ass...but all he said was, "okay"...so i brought it in a couple days later and he was there...traded it in and he didn't say a word....hmm....whos all still reading this???after 20 min, i would just spit on him take my games back and then go next door to GS. Stoopid FYE people :-/

anyone know the trade in price for Syberia (have an extra copy, some dude backed out of a deal ;_;)

It was somewhere around 8.50 but I didn't get the game scanned, just asked for a price. For all I know the girl behind the register was giving me the ps2 Top Gun's Value.

And I think I'd better avoid one certain FYE in general for a little while. The manager told me today I can only trade in 3 of the 9 games I've brought in. I must have hit traded in $1,000 worth of games or something and set off some red flags in the computer. Sucks too because that store gave me cash instead of credit.

be careful strider, if the manager thats investigating you bans you, theyll prolly have fyes ban you all over. Thats what the one out by me did.

they said it was because i was trading in multiple copies of games and i traded in one without a book (i didnt even look in go go hypergrind, it had a white sleve thing in front and i thought the book was behind it, i just checked the condition of the disc that was all.)

the manager said i could be looked into theft or something even tho i have every receipt of everything i ever bought.

i hate how they kicked me in the face because there too stupid to realize they take multiples.

So you traded in the same game more than once over time or at one time? Everytime I used to try to trade in 2 copies of the same game at once they'd never accept it so I'd just trade 1 in now and go back later to get rid of the other one.


If some FYE manager wants to look into theft charges that's fine by me. I have enough reciepts showing that I bought games cheap and sold it to them for profit.

I think it just depends on whoever is working the register at the time. Some of them won't take a certain game if they have 1 or 3 copies, but the person working the next day will and others still won't even bother to 'pre-scan' the game to see how many they have in stock.

Just a heads up that Lotus Challenge is also $4.99 at Circuit City if you can find it. I traded that as well as NFL Hitz and Blitz pro for 61 in store credit (27+17+17). They sell the Star Wars Trilogy for $50 with a 15 dollar rebate so you can eventually get the Star Wars Trilogy for free if you have some luck at Circuit City! I also have a feeling that Pro Race Driver would net over $20 in credit as well...also a $4.99 CC game.

I just picked up NFL Blitz Pro at my CC. They had Hitz on both Xbox and PS2 and another copy of Blitz Pro on the PS2. I'll be trading in Blitz later this week. My local FYE has now institued a 1 copy per used game thing, so no trading in multiple copies of a game.

do they give cash? I just called my local one they said they give both cash on credit whats the deal on it?

the one near me will give you 75% of whatever the trade-in value is in cash...while another one near me, but further, wont give you cash...either way, if you're into anything that fye sells (such as videogames, cds, dvds), its not really worth it to take the cash....just buy something that makes sense...use your credit on something there only if its cheaper then anywhere else or if you can't find it anywhere else (which is the case a lot of times with me)
