Is ebay my best bet or are there online retailers that have used nes systems for cheap?
These things go for a lot on ebay, so do i have other choices???

You can always hope to find it at a garage sale, that's what I'm holding out for anyway. I can't wait for garage sale season to start now that I'm on my cheap ass gamer kick!

good call. I live in manhattan, but out in long island there are plenty of garage sales that i can hit.
7 years ago i got an atari and 40 games for 5 dollars in a garage sale, so you never know.

It seems like EBay is the only place to get them. I want to get one as well but I'm not spending more than $50 for one which I know isn't going to happen

I don't know if you have any local gaming expos in your area but one of my class mates last year went to Philly Classic and got one for $70 (still less than EBay).

check some thrift stores that's where I got both mine from a complete one with hook-ups for $20 and a couple months later got another one(deck only) for $5.
So they are out there to be found you just need patience.

A regular NES with a new pin connector is a far cheaper and much better bet. The top-loaders had the AV port removed and is RF only.

really? whyd they do that? to enable it to be smaller? that doesnt make any sense to compromise that since its a later model.

I gotta start hitting more garage sales. First reality fringe finds a neo and now other people are finding cool stuff.

Heh. I actually got my toploader from Funco Land...of course, that was years ago (1996, maybe?) and well before they became rare.

I don't remember how much we paid for it, but odds are it was a lot less than they're going for now. It still works too.

Okay...I'm done bragging. :D

I dunno...

This guy loves it, but the trade off of output, visuals, and game genie incompatibility really makes it a lesser functional system, IMHO. And if the controllers are really an issue, you can buy the dogbone ones off Nintendo's website, and they're full compatible with both decks.

And btw, I have an original NES with its original pin connector, and it works perfectly with no blinking. You just have to know how to clean and maintain the console and games.

Are you asking us if you have one?

These were sold up until 1995 or so at Toys R Us stores. I picked one up new at TRU for $40 or so. Actually I don't like it as much as the old school one because of the lack of A/V ports but the controller is kinda neat. Not worth the trouble unless you are collecting.

I think the Top Loader is ugly and so is the controller...I think the old controller was cool because it was so...how do I say this?...Unique...and Simple...One D-Pad,2 main function buttons, and Start and Select...Its just soo...COOL!...I say "go old school" not old school regenerated (as I stick my middle finger up to all those wanna be punks and retro people)

Good luck finding a top loader cheap. If I ever saw one, I'd buy it - I miss the hell out of my NES. I had an old one, which I sold 2 years ago, and somehow got close to $100 for.
