Don't laugh, but I cracked one of my ColecoVision joysticks. I somehow thought pressing the sh*t out the joystick would make me run that much faster and ended up hearing this cracking sound.

They were sh*tty controllers anyway.

Zero...I don't have anger problems. I am a collector, so I treat all my video game stuff as good as possible. And I don't buy third party junk, unless the item is not available in 1st party form.

Zero. I've never outright broken one from abuse or anything, but the closest thing I've got is a couple of N64 controllers with loose sticks (from wear and use [damn Mario Party!]), that's about it.

Old game controllers (SNES and earlier) are sturdy. Their simpler and more compact designs have less to break...no analog sticks and things like that to get loose.

Like tholly, I'm a collector, and a particularly neurotic one at that. I force people to carefully and thuroughly wash their hands (and scrub their nails!) before handling any of my games, hardware, controllers, magazines, or memoribilia. Love them, and they will love you back with years of faithful service. :)

Aside from that, I don't get really angry at games, certainly not to the point where I would want to hurt my precious controllers (overly frustrating games are not their fault). Usually, I just call out "curse you, videogame. Your challenge is mighty," and get on with it. :)

I just remembered I have had a bunch of sticks go bad on my dreamcast controllers. I'd buy the 3rd party ones because they were bigger. The sticks were shit. I did have a sega one crap out too.

the fucking Chocobo challenge to get the sun sigil in FFX. After the 20th time getting 0:01:00, i rammed my controller into the wall. The poor controller which had stood massive abuse before folded into the wall and basically exploded.

1 Atari Controller (Pulling the rubber off is always a good time)
3 Genesis Controllers (Heated NHL battles and a bunch of teenage boys is not a good mix. Especially when it involved Joel Otto from the Flames)
1 SNES controller (Which lead to the purchasing of the greatest controller of all time - the Snes Ascii pad)

Most of them were just excessive use. The Genesis pads broke all the time for me, but I worked a VG store so I always rebuilt them.

I do have a friend who spun bologna in his Sega CD to see what would happen. Suprisingly it did not display any meat products on screen. It did however, never eject the meat again. It was sent to SEGA and they replaced it for free plus shipping though.

PS. "It did however, never eject the meat again." May be the greatest sentence I have ever typed. Followed closely by the rubber comment above.

Ah man... haven't snapped any controllers since like, kindergarden. Anger issues seem to run in my dad's side of the family, so I've put a great deal of effort into curbing that. I'll swear like crazy at a game, but normally turn it off and chill for awhile before I start beating controllers. (And if I do, I usually just slam it into a pillow or something equally soft.)

I did have a pet rabbit for awhile that ruined 2 PS2 controllers with cord-nibbling. That really sucked. :bomb:

I've cracked a few controllers in my time (namely PS2 controllers since the semi clear ones are made out of thin plastic), but my most memorable and recent destruction was foused on a game - not a controller.

Need for Speed Underground for Xbox was the target. I bought it for 5 bucks used in fair condition at a record store out of curiosity. I played it for about a week straight and was nearing the 85-90th mission out of 110 when the AI really started to tick me off. I'm sure that anyone who's played this game knows what I'm talking about. Not too surprising that EA would go for "Lets try to be cool" versus actual solid gameplay mechanics and balance. I really tried to like this game and got pretty far, but hoping wont' make a bad game good.

Anyway - one too many ridiculous crashes and AI rip-offs and I calmy ejected the DVD ROM from my XBox and snapped it in 2. I also did a number on the case and instructions too - guilt by association. If you have never seen the layering of a DVD, it's quite interesting.

I look at it this way - no way no how would I ever do that to any other game I own - I love my stuff too much, but this one was 5$ and was not one I wanted to keep cause of it's worn condition. It took me 5$ to confirm my suspicions about it in the first place.

I suggest picking up a crappy cheap game and snapping it in effigy of another game that's frustrating you - great stress relief.

Probably 4 or more. Most of them simply from years and years of use, I don't think any of those packed-in system controllers were designed for heavy use over 10 years. Surprisingly, though, my NES controllers have held up better than the others, probably because there's simply a lot less to screw with. The D-pad is the best!

Especially for the SNES era, all those heated Street Fighter games led to a lot of controller chucking.

The only time I ever really got mad while playing a game was during Skies of Arcadia.

I went through the Soltis cave thing, and got lost like 20 times. It took me over 2 hours to get through there. Then, I finally reach the save point near the boss... and the music loops... and I can't move.

I snapped my precious SOA CD2 in half.

Which ended up working good.. because I only used the CD1 from that for the online browser. And got another copy to play the game.

Man, end of the 2nd page and there aren't very many that have broken the things. Well, I'll fess up.

An old habit since is for me to hold the controller in my right hand and slam it down on the footrest of my foldable, reclining chair. Usually, this means hitting some canvas. However, 1 DC controller and 1 GCN controller have met the metal cross bar that supports the footrest. The DC controller cracked on the left side, and the analogue stick stopped working properly. The GCN controller looked fine, but the analogue on one of the shoulder buttons gave out. The full click still worked. I'll add that fittingly enough, I was playing Smash Brothers at the time. Yeah, I make a point of not doing that anymore, since today’s controllers can't quite take it.

As far as total losses on controllers, there are the two above, my included N64 gray controller was taken in my dorm, my included PS2 Dualshock was stolen out of my dorm (separate occasion), and I think I have two malfunctioning PS2 controllers that I never use (seriously - [/i]never[i]) that I think got screwed up by bastards at my crap dorm [anger]. I also have a strange Xbox Controller S. The A button and the white button are crossed, so they do the same thing. It's sort of funny as a joke or a handicap - give it to the best Halo player in your group, and the flashlight will turn on and off every time they jump.

My roommate's a real dick about breaking controllers. He decides he's going to break it and smashes it on the ground. But what does he care? He just switches it out at Wal-Mart. Asshole.

I wore out some of the original one button Atari sticks back in the days but there wasn't anything surprising about that. They were very cheaply made and replacements were a healthy business at one time.

But I've got a Wico stick from that era that still works fine. And most of my consoles still have the controller they came with in fully functional condition, although they may have lost some of their feel.

I've never busted a controller out of frustration, which is unbelievable. I get pissed at games pretty easily (especially fighting games--I don't play them much anymore), and I used to slam controllers around quite a bit. I've thrown my Dual Shocks against the floor, wall, TV, across the room away from the console (ripping it out and pulling the system to the floor). One of my PS1 controllers has bite marks in it, probably from Tekken 3.
My new thing now is twisting--I pull the right side of the controller toward me, and push the left side away. I always stop myself before I tear it in half, but I'm pretty convinced SMT: Nocturne is going to throw me over the edge :D.

I broke my tivo remote and my audio reciever remote. I've broken one game controller, but it wasn't completely my fault. I threw it, then I got up to walk away. When I got up, the wire caught onto my foot and swung around, slamming into the wooden part of the bed. The wire broke off the controller.

I do not have a running total, but I'd say roughly 6-8 PS1/PS2 dual shock controllers. They're not very durable! These almost always come from playing sports games. I love playing sports games as realistic as possible, so adjusting the difficulty level is never enough for me. I endlessly tweak with the sliders to get extremely-hard-but-realistic settings. Ocassionally, though, sports games will do something really, really lame. Like some random glitch will cause me to lose or something. Or maybe I'll be doing really good defensively, and then the receiver of a team will get a fluke 5-broken-tackle 3-yard-catch-plus-96-YAC-touchdown. When something like that happens, my controller usually finds itself forcefully driven into the ground.

Although I've broken a countless amount, I do usually open them up and swap broken parts for good one. There's literally a box in my closet with a label that reads "controller parts" attached to it. While I've broken 6-8, I bet I've managed to salvage roughly two or three of them. One of my controllers has masking tape wrapped around one of the "handles," as the screw that held the front and back of it together popped loose.

I'm really a pretty calm person, though. It's pretty silly to say that someone who breaks controllers has severe anger management problems, or something like that, so I don't worry about it. Just my way of venting frustration!

one of my xbox dukes like mixed the A button and right thumbstick, and also the X button too, and its all wierd if i move the stick toward those directions. anyways, surprisingly, i havent broken any of my Ps2 controllers, eventhough i drop them on a wood floor probably every day i use them
