We've been following the rumor-to-confirmed life of the Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack for a little while now, as the add-on briefly appeared on the Korean official Xbox site, and later last month, when Bungie confirmed the whole thing wasn't a dream.
Back then, online retailer EBGames.com had listed the Map Pack, but removed the listing almost as fast as it appeared. Now, both EBGames and GameStop list the Map Pack, and though any information gathered through retail listings can't be taken as quite official, both sites list a release date of June 28, 2005 and a $19.99 price point -- just what we expected.
As we reported earlier, in addition to the retail disc, Bungie and Microsoft plan to make the nine new multiplayer maps available over Xbox Live -- the first two will be free, the others available for purchase. In addition to offering all nine maps at once, the retail edition contains bonus content such as a documentary (including interviews with the map designers, combat strategies, and fly-throughs of the new maps), and a cinematic short set in New Mombasa. Eventually -- by the end of summer is the word right now -- all the new maps will be available for free download.
It's good news for those of you that are going to get it.
