Hi:
I purchased doom 3 from outpost.com and the first copy I received takes forever to load up and when it does the audio keeps skipping and you cannot make out what is being said.
I shipped out that copy and received a new one today and the same issue is happening.
Has anyone else experienced this?
I have an older xbox and I am playing the game on a 51" HD TV. I'm not sure if this is a video problem or if it is my old xbox drive that is causing the problem.
I am planning to call activision in the morning. Outpost.com won't do anything for me. The guy I just spoke with said "ebay it" as they won't return my money.

Its your old Xbox. I haven't had a single problem with the game.

not all Thompson drives are bad, I used to own one. My Xbox broke down on me though, after two years of owning it. I gotta say that it was acting up before it died (loading screeches, etc.)
Go take advantage of EB's "trade in your working Xbox system and 3 games and get $100 in credit" deal and pay another $50 and get yourself a brand new Xbox. Its better to pay $50 and lose 3 games now than it is to wait until it dies completely and pay $150.

you can trade it in at gamerush for $90. and 3 games and get extra 5+ per game. check the gamerush thread for trade-in values.

I've had two DRE's with my Xbox with DOOM 3 CE since I've had it. My XBox is a Sep/2002 vintage system with a Thompson drive. The Halo 2 CE disk which gets 10+ hours of play a week doesn't miss a beat.
I'm sure it's the Thompson drive in it that's causing the issue.

it's your drive, mine is having the same problem.
I noticed it a few weeks before Doom3 was released when playing certain other games. When I play Doom it's usually REALLY noticeable, mostly it skips during the intro, takes forever to load, and has trouble finding stuff on the disk.
Now it's happening with other games, so I can either trade it in for that EB deal or pay microsoft to fix the damn thing(which I may do because I have a green Halo xbox).
It sucks because the system is really not that old but definitely out of warranty. Now i either have to give up my green xbox or pay microsoft to replace the drive for $80... probably erasing my hard drive saves in the process...weak.

I had 2 replace my Thompson drive Xbox a couple months ago. Get rid of that thompson and get something made in 2005, look through the hole in the box and check the production date on the systems info sticker. Most of the new drives are Hitachi and they are a close #2 behind the Samsumg drive. Oh yea I got the 1 year replacement thing also for like $12 more, you might wanna get that incase you get another stinker of a drive.
