If you want it to sound like a long way away, it comes out two weeks from this past Tuesday.. if you want it to sound close, it comes out a week from this coming Tuesday. Regardless of however you want to word it, who's going to pick it up? Are we going to have a cheap ass clan/group/club? I watched a GS video preview and they mentioned something about a car club.. let's try to not show off how cheap we are in the car club, though.. no station wagons or anything..
Anyways, who's getting it and who wants to start something?

Anyone know how the car customization compares with Midnight Club 3?

I'll probably pick it up. I held off on buying GT4 since I wanted to see the reviews on it, since I don't want to have two racing games.

I'm interested in this as well. Too bad you can't add all sorts of fancy stuff to the car.. ("Pimp it out").. Was going to pick up MC3, but i'll just wait for a price drop.. did give it a rent though, the level of customization kicked the hell outta NFSU2.
And why do all races have to take place during the day?! The night would look pretty :(

Gonna wait for IGN and GS have the final say on it, soo many racing games for my XBox already, and if XBox2 comes out this fall I know i won't touch Froza with PGR3 in my hands.
But if Outpost or another site offers it for $35+ free S&H, im sold.

I'm shocked that supadupacheap hasn't responded. He had me do the $30 pre-order deal for this game at GR, and he's been practically orgasming over the game for weeks.
I'm not into realistic racing games as much as arcade style ones, but even I may have to rent this after all the good shit I've been hearing about it.

Ahhh, my beloved Forza finally gets some love on CAG. Now, my 2 cents...
First off, the demo is garbage compared to the real thing. Some reviewers have compared the final build to the demo like GT3 and GT2
Second, there is a video on IGN insider you have to see to believe. I cant even describe it other than to say its breathtaking. They have that chystler prototype thing running at night. The way the shadows roll off the car and the speed and accuracy at which they shift is unreal. U N R E A L.
Third, Im not really even THAT into car games and Im buying this the day it comes out. Its that awe inspiring. The last game I paid full retail of $50 for was Madden......... 2003.
Fourth, Im dying to try out the car club aspect. Im in if it gets set up for sure. FYI, Im going Asia so Ill have access to cheap imports. Would love to hook up somebody going the Europe route as there are a few cars there Id like access too. Online will destroy any other game to date.
Fifth, there is NO GAME ANYWHERE that is more accurate and true to life to the tracks than Forza. Real professionals were racing the tracks they race in real life and coming within 3 - 5 seconds of their usual times in R.L. Whoa.
I can also attest to the accuracy because I have a sick obssesion/ fetish with Laguna Seca. It darn near perfect in Forza. The closest game before now was Superbike 2000 (anybody remember that one?) Forza blows it away.
Sixth, Damage damage damage! Fina-freaking-ly. And not all or nothing garbage. Theres scrapes, crumpling, paint rubbing, all that good stuff.
Seventh, pro scan. People will talk about how "great" GT4 is at 1080. Oh yes, its wonderful, just dont look at ANYTHING but the car!!! Ugh. Jaggies here, jaggies there, jaggies everywhere. Bleck.
Eighth, sounds. GT was always too fake for my tastes. Everything was overdone. Whines, scraping, gears, all of it. Forza is more true to life IMO. Less metalic and more gutteral. If youve ever heard a real sports car, it has almost a growl to it. Frightening and exciting at the same time.
Nine, customization. GT got old because it was basically different colors of the same car in many cases. I spent hours buying up skylines that all looked the darn same. Id rather "SDCheap-ify" one and learn all its driving nuances. Oh yeah.
Lastly, because "You are what you race" and I want to race (therefor be) the best. ;)

I don't give a shit about online play. True the graphics and car selection were improved, but they ruined the most important part of the game: control. PGR has the best feel out of any racing game I've ever played, while PGR2's was horrible.

Yeah right. Maybe the benchmark for Xbox, but not simulation racing in general.
GT4 = Driving
Forza = Racing
Even after all the bashing i've heard regarding GT4, I still think that they've (Polyphony Digital) putted out a great game.
Forza isn't a GT killer, but it's a strong addition to MS first party games. Also, it's good to see someone step up to compete against GT and does it well on top of it.
This will push the GT series to re-invent their seires (customization, ONLINE and car damage).
Will there be a sticky post for the Forza Club?

Holy fuck! MS is the bomb! I thought "Why would they bother making another great racer with Burnout 3, RSC2 and PGR2 already out?" but shit. They do it again! The XBox has become probably the best racing console ever now.
Burnout 3 93.7
Forza 93.6 (so far)
PGR2 93.2
Midnight Club 3 88.9 (so far)
Burnout 2 88.4
RSC2 88.9
(All averages from gamerankings.com)
Also can't forget the MotoGP series (THQ's not Namco's) with a 87.5% average (Moto GP2) and rumor has it Moto GP 3 will be out this year for the box.
Too bad MS didn't buy Dice for the RSC rights, I read Dice was still in the middle of that EA buyout, which would be rich if all consoles get a tast of the Ralli world. The only thing the system is missing now is some rich futuristic racer like F-Zero.

Gran Turismo 3 got a 9.4, GT4 didn't rate as high because they didn't really change a whole lot. The scores are so close together as to not make them worth comparing, though, it's safe to say they are both great games.

True, although standards when GT3 came out were lower than they are now.
Is it a GT4 "killer?" Nah. But it also does not have to take a backseat to it at all. GT4 has more cars, but looking at the Forza selection, there are some that GT4 doesn't have that I'd much rather use. I guess some people are complaining about Forza not having quite enough tracks (at least by comparison to other racers), hopefully that'll be remedied with downloads eventually. Still, online play is something GT4 doesn't have, and that's a big difference.
It's not worth getting into a nitpicky fight about it though. Just suffice to say Forza is fucking awesome, and if you like racing games you most likely will not be disappointed in the least, especially if you have XBL.

Behold the power of Forza:
Here's a true story: As an import-tuning wannabe, I recently caught the Honda S2000 bug and became curious about the drifting capabilities of this RWD roadster. So what better way to answer my own question by picking up this slick fan-favorite mobile with some extra money I had in my Forza account. Initial test drives of my new S2000 confounded my expectations. Instead of being able to kick out my rear end on a dime, the S2000 understeered itself into the dirt on high-speed corners if I eased up on the throttle when heading into the apex of the turn. Frankly, it was pissing me off and, if Forza couldn't even capture the handling of a popular car like the S2000, I was ready to write off it off as fatally inaccurate.
That is, until I Googled-up "S2000" and "understeer," which lead me to a handful of real-life car reviews that mention the very same handling problem I experienced just hours earlier on my Xbox. I was stunned. Furthermore, I found a suspension tweaking guide (again, for the real-world S2000) that I was able to use and correct my S2000's understeering problem. At that point, I became a true believer. The fact that I was able to surf for tuning FAQs on enthusiast car forums (and ironically, on various Gran Turismo 4 sites) for hints on how to tune my virtual ride absolutely blew my mind....

Just put a couple of hours into the game and so far so good. I've got 5 cars in my garage so far, winning them through the events. The damage model really makes you aware of your racing lines. The AI so far has been pretty competitive. They're right on your rear bumper if you take a series of corners wrong and in one instance, I was spun out when I was hit in the right rear corner when I was out of the racing line. It wasn't frustrating at all. Not a moment later, I was in the same situation (after taking a few corners too fast) and was able to save the car.
One thing though, the car sounds seem a bit muted especially compared to GT4. I kept turning up the sound, but it's still not to my liking. More impressions later.

I don't understand what all the fuss was about. Racing game fans were hailing Forza as the second coming of Christ practically, and, although it is apparently a good game, it does't seem to be distinguishable from the many other Xbox racers which got equal or better scores.
I was considering renting this even though I'm pretty indifferent to realistic racing games, but I just don't see anything interesting. Crashing once and then not being able to win the race is not my idea of fun.
I'm not trying to start an argument or flame war whatsoever. I just don't see what's so special about the game when it doesn't seem to offer anything that other good racing games don't. But maybe I just don't "get it", the same way people don't understand my love for WrestleMania 21. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Ah, lost misguided youth. How sad. :imwithst: (j/k)
The difference is there is NOTHING like this on the xbox AT ALL. It is a combination of the best of the xbox (MC,PG2,etc) AND a full on Grand Turismo-esq game.
If you want to just bash around corners and fly top speed through every race, this isnt the game for you even with adjustments (try NFSU or Burnout 3) It is a true racing sim. For those hardcore of us out there, this is the realtization of a dream. (a true sim racer) If youre not into that sort of thing, its just another highly rated game thats not your cup of tea (we all have games like that... well, except Shrike. :-P) Forza fills a huge hole in the xbox lineup. For many of us that hole was BIG. For you it wasnt. Simple as that.
*Edit* Another thing Id like to add, the definition of "sim" is often used to give a racing game more "props" in the racing genre. Its very much overused. A true sim is detailed almost to a fault. If a true sim (like Forza) is played by a non-sim type player, it will eat them alive (as it should) Most car enthusiasts love details. Tweaking, modding, tuning, the whole works. Personally, I love how cars *feel* incredibly different whereas in other games they can all meld together physics wise. The other racers on the xbox were good to great. Many even surpass forza in certain aspects (customization, sense of speed, etc) However, Forza is THE Sim racer us xboxers have been waiting for. For many people its sim to a fault (hard, demanding, detailed) but to a lot of us, its heaven in a DVD case.

I would not base any buying decisions on the demo. If you are unsure, rent. The diff between just the videos of the demo and final versions are night and day. Im sure playing actually shows an even more stark contrast.

So who else plays this game? I was on most of the day today and only saw Meth. This game's absolutely phenomenal. I spent most of yesterday playing Career and getting used to the AI, which I'm liking very much. They'll challenge you and get out front if you race sloppy, but run your lines and you'll eventually reel them in.
Online adds so much to this game. Playing the career online with active players and cheering and jeering all about is great. More than any other racer, I really get the sense of everyone in the race feeling they are racing their car. It's not just "pick your car" and race. Some cars look stock and you see it perform and you have to ask what's under the hood. Brings together that sense that you see out there in the real car tuning world.
I was in a race with some WRX STis, Porsches, and Skylines. I was in a Celica and got out front on Tsukuba. And all I could hear was, "Damn, a Celica's out front." It's a virtual car, but it gives you the same sense of joy to hear that sort of awe inspired gawking as a real car would.
The damage model adds so much to races and I can't imagine going back to sim racing without one. Race strategies play out early and all throughout the race. Damage your car to the point of crippling it and yeah, it's frustrating. Win that way and it's exhilirating.
The one problem with that is if you get in a race with bumper car drivers. Some guys use the GT4 mentality and use you to slow down for corners. True, it usually damages their car more (steering, etc. vs. your body work for the most part), but it costs you credits in the end of the race having to fix your car due to their driving ineptitude. I'm kind of hoping there's some sort of system implemented where drivers like these are penalized at the end of the race by having to pay for the damage they cause. Not sure how that can be implemented now, but maybe next time.
For starters, I know this may sound odd, but turn off all assists and the racing line. I feel like the assists hinder you more than they help you and with the start of the game, you really don't have access to the higher-classed cars than can potentially cause you to spin out. Better to learn now than later. Plus you get more credits with each win (with my settings, I get a +60% difficulty bonus). If you do have to keep one though, keep the ABS. The STM and TCS seem far too restrictive with getting the power down and really hampers your times.

It can be. You can get into the details of it all, but the actual buying of upgrades is really quite user-friendly.
There are bars and graphs that show you exactly what your improving from the basic stats of your car (Speed, Acceleration, Braking, Cornering, and Rarity). There's also a real-time indicator of how the parts are going to affect the vehicle's class.
You will have to work on some of the cars to get golds in the races, but not to the extent of raising ride height or stiffening the suspension.
It's as simple as, "I need more speed and better handling." You flip through the available parts and see how the car's ratings are affected.

It's as simple as, "I need more speed and better handling." You flip through the available parts and see how the car's ratings are affected.

Has anyone unlocked the 2002 Saab Viggen? How hard was it to unlock? Does it fair well? Would I be able to upgrade it and primarily play with it for a majority of the game?
I'm thinking about picking this game up but would like to first ask if...
(I apologize if they've been asked before)
...what the "career" mode is comparable to...I disliked GT3 because it was extremely sim. I loved PGR 2 because of the kudos. Where does Forza stack in between offline and on?

the game makes it so that you must have a vareity of cars, youd probably only be able to use your saab for a couple of races, as it wont be allowe in races such as the American Muscle, Hatchback, and All-Wheel Races

online is usually class specific, not really general, and your car upgraded will definetly blow your mind.
Also to add is that a fully upgraded Saab will usually be out of its original class, and wont be able to compete with other cars that start out in that specific class.
as for shifted, im not really understanding what shifted means, but i will say this game is more like GT3, though its more fun to drive.

I just got my game. Wow, unbelievable. I actually like it more than GT3/4, although, I'm going to have to eventually play without the race line, which will make the game MUCH harder for a noob like me. Still, graphically, aurally, control-wise...its awesome.
So, do the prize cars look the same for everyone, or do they come with random paint jobs and stuff? Just curious if anyone knows.
This game rocks.
I just got this game yesterday and I'm enjoying it so far. I unlocked "Tom's Toyota" super duper car thing and its already worth well over $110,000 in Europe.
I'm not normally into sims like this, but this game doesn't seem as sim like as Gran Turismo. It seems more like a mix of Project Gotham with Gran Turismo. I think the best part of the game is the fact that you are constantly racing in different types of cars, so it doesn't become repetitive at all.
And the fact that it plays your custom music all the time, even through loading screens, is a nice bonus.

You're right - no riding the rails to get around corners in this game.
Brake, brake and brake some more!
I'm probably using the handbrake more than I'm supposed to as well, but it makes for some fun replays to watch later on.

Forza - R E A L
For some people it does indeed fuck ing suck. For a lot of us though, its heaven sent. I cant tell you how long many of us racers pined for an Xbox "GT". Now we have it and its BETTER than GT.
I will never say Forza is for the casual racer. You can be casual but even with every assist and option turned to your advantage, you can only be so much so. It is very much a game for the dedicated, not the pick up and play-er. I wont be touching another game, even Jade Empire for at least 2 months. Its nuts like me who this game is perfect for. This is not to say a non OC racer couldnt enjoy it, they can. Just dont expect to win everything some pain and do expect to get slaughtered online.

Do you use the racing lines? I recommend using the line, if only for the first time you race a track...until you memorize the track, its going to be hard. It tells you exactly when and how much to slow down.
With my TT, even when I was sliding, I wasn't out of control. And yes, when you get bumped, you can lose control. But on default settings (with the exception of damage being set one level higher to "simulation") I've done 5 races and come in 1st in all 5. So far, the game is amazing for me.
Use the racing line.

I have a feeling I'll end up hating the gameplay if it's that hard and realistic, but I owe it to myself to give the game a shot. Besides, as an artist and an obsessive compulsive detail freak, I should enjoy the customization. Those pics of the FFX car, Nintendo and Zelda cars, etc. are very inspiring.

Ok ok, that joke was too funny it had to get its own post. Now to the serious answer.
C class is a bear. I would say of all the classes, making a C1 is by far the hardest. Soooo many of the C cars become B's with barely any upgrades. All you can do is mess around until you find a combo that works.
B I felt was ok compared to C. Guess its YMMV due to the car. The trick is to find a car suited to the tracks (turns = high ACC, straights = speed) or tune the one you like for them.
The restricted versions require learning and practicing the track alot. Also, look at the top cars on the grid. Those are the "best" you seek. (the top is usually what you WIN, the rest can usually be bought)

I definately thought that Gran Turismo 3 was basically no fun. The Rally Races were kinda sorta fun, but as somone who doesn't want to spend hours tweaking his car to shave that .004 second off my total time, I lost patience with the game. While I apprecaite the ability to add turbos and better shocks and brakes, there reaches a point (Camber Angles and ride height, for example) where I just lose interest.
Given that I'm more of a PGR kinda guy and less of a "Racing SIM" kinda guy, which of these two titles is more appropriate?
Like I said I have owned GT3 since it came out...put about 20 hours into it, and eventually grew bored.
here's an important question: I know that playing GT3 from BEHIND the car was next to impossible (your car always blocked the road ahead). Can you play GT4 or Forza from the behind-the-car view and still race decently?
GT3's angle was so low behind the car I spent ever race looking at the same two analog gauges...bleh!

Not to sound jerkish but... neither. Forza and GT4 are both trying to accomplish the same thing, offer a realistic driving simulation. If your not into that sort of thing, neither will keep your long term interest.Look at it this way, if you hate carbonation, whether coke or pepsi is better really doesnt matter. Same thing here.

I actually had that idea but so little trading has gone on I abandoned it. It would be pretty badass if somebody with some skill (meaning NOT me) did something decent and CAG-centric. Then we could pass it amongst ourselves until we have a whole fleet of them. Then we could run them all at once. Thatd be cool
As far as the model, I suggest something in either the D or B classes. Anything higher is rediculous and C class leaves much to be desired.

Are all races limited to only winning the prize car only once or are there any races that let you win the prize car again? I just need a way to earn some money so I can buy a few cars to paint.
And anyone suggest any events that give good money on fairly short simple tracks? I actually don't mind the Endurance C class race (the one that's on NY Circuit Short), but it takes nearly half an hour to do it. Worth nearly 200,000 Credits though with the car and difficulty bonus.

!!!!Lingenfelter Corvette race is kicking my ass (well, I'm coming in second in all of 'em). Anyone have a good car or setup? I saved up money by running a whole bunch of the endurance races to upgrade a Z06 and it's no good. The Lingenfelter cuts through the corners far too well. Are the AI cars running with STM and TCS? I have them all off, but there's no way that thing sticks to the road as it does. And turning them back on messes me up too much with the throttle response and everything. I just want to clear the Pro races before I move further on.

I would highly suggest against that unless you are able to break down his settings to your own driving. A lot of the leaders either
A) Have very unusually driving styles so their setups are quite odd.
B) Cheat like hell so their setups are worthless.
Personally, Id just tune tune tune until you are able to keep up. DONT turn on STM or TCM if you dont need them.
Keep in mind, just because its in the pro area doesnt mean its a pro race. There are many Pro races that I destroy yet many amateurs that give me a better run for my money.

I caved in to the pressure on IGN boards.. I love the game, but I'm not all that great at it. For reference, the GT 4 demo was enough to turn me off of that game completely.. and I generally don't even like racing games.. but there's something about this one that I like.. probably the custom soundtracks even in the menus :D

When do you usually play supa? Haven't caught you online yet. We've had some pretty good races in.
Anyway, could you guys list some recognizable paint schemes for cars? I'm trying to come up with a list of car paint schemes to recreate. Starting off with something simple, but I'd like to make my way up to whatever you can come up with.
I only have two customized cars so far. One was Herbie and the other a 350Z that I call "Fireball". Wanted it to look like a spacecraft re-entering orbit.
I just need some ideas.

All I gotta say is it better be a CHEAP ASS CAR. There is no way it should be anything even close to expensive.
And a Buick Regal? Oh dear lord no.
My suggestions:
Fun to drive - It shouldnt handle like a boat or else our races will get old fast.
Sporty - It doesnt have to be super looking but I dont want an ugly car either
AWD or FFWD - AWD is the easiest to drive for most but the selection of sub 30K AWD didnt look promising. FFWD being the next easiest, I think we should look there.
NO DAMN CRX - Im tired tired tired of those mother fuck ers
Id also like to add I think region shouldnt matter. Pick the car that works best for everybody, not the fanboy favorites. Im liking the RSX for the following reasons.
Lots of design space (although the sunroof kills the roof part :-()
I find it quite an enjoyable drive.
Cheap.
FFWD so easy to learn.
Useful in career (it can go far if you want to with it)
And this is a personal opinion, a fleet of them would look pretty badass vs. a fleet of many of the other offerings.
Anyway, my 2cents, take from it whatever you will. Not me doing all the design work so its not my place to start making demands.

Yeah, last few days have been odd for me. I broke my foot (ok, toe  ) and while you think this would mean MORE Forza, its actually been the opposite. The pain is killer at times and sleep is a chore (Im a toss and turner and seem to bang my foot which instantly wakes me up) So, Ive kinda zombied through the week and I keep off live since its really embarrassing the way Im driving.
I should sleep ok tonight and plan on being on a lot tomorrow. I saw some of the clan is getting out of striking distance for me and I just cant stand for that, broken bones or not.

I've FINALLY weened myself off the racing line, 20 or so races later. Its a good thing too...this game's physics are so spot on that you can really acquire a FEEL for the cars and tracks, as opposed to being overly depended on aids.

But why oh why an NSX instead of an RSX. Like I really needed another car to have to learn how to drive well right now.
I must say the car is striking. I would certainly be proud to own it. Im not too crazy about the half rings under the CAG logo but its personal taste Im sure (as I hate the Rockets logo that does that) The CAG logo itself is top shelf and MUST be in the final design (or Ill boot ya out the club :-P)
*Edit* Ok, maybe the rings arent so bad but they are so large they distract from the incredibly excellent CAG logo. Maybe thin them out or do an overlap of the roof color to slim line them. I dunno.
A few other thoughts (feel free to ignore them as I have no talent so my artistic critiques are mostly BS  )
You might consider doing something more with the front. Seems an ocean of green there. Dont go ape with it (I love how you have a clean design so far) but maybe a little something just to break up all that green.
Love the coloring. WAY better than my black (mostly) idea.
The color sweep from the spoiler was an excellent touch as well.
Is that tinted glass? May consider full black on it just because we have quite a few ugly CAGers and they can use that as a distraction :-P
All in all, most excellent. Dont like the car choice but Im biased against the NSX as all hell. (since I fear most of you monkies wont be able to keep yours on the road and off my ass :bomb: Haha.)
Again, :applause:
I look forward to aquiring one soon. :D

I love that stars and stripes car dude...seems like the Corvette was the perfect choice for it too. Thumbs up.
Supa, as for my design, yea I wasn't too sure about the rings either, but I was just kinda establishing a general motif. I'll probably get rid of them whenever I decide on how I'll add to the other parts of the car. Probably have "CAG" going the other way on the wing...and maybe a dollar sign on the hood. I also have to ass the "amber" color somewhere along the way. But it has potential. As to why I chose the NSX...well, I haven't bought any cars yet and I'm only level 13 or so, so I only have the cars I've won, and a few modifications later, its my best car, so I figured I might as well.
Still, the second I get my Aston Martin DB6 or my Bently, I'll consider pimping those :D

You guys are killing me........this game just keeps looking better and better....but I'm just a PGR/Rallisport/NFS loozah that I'm afraid this game (even when practicing proper braking techniques) will just own me.
Tell me, is the difficulty level in this game such that one has to (like in GT3) constantly re-race and re-race and re-race the same tracks over and over and over just to get anywhere and buy a new car?
The whole "I hate GT3" thing in my psyche stems from that....race and race and race to finally buy a new car that gets owned until you race and race and race somemore to upgrade it. Woe is me.
SteveMcQ
05-16-2005, 07:11 PM
Nope the beginning levels do a pretty good job of varying the tracks you race on. I never felt like I had to run a race again just to get more money, especially below level 20. More series open up and you just do those to get more money. In fact, the starting levels do a great job of keeping you going with the amount of stuff you open. You always win money and just about every race, you get a new car.
Getting above level 30 though, that's when it gets harder to advance. I've been on level 36 for a while now. It took me quite a few endurance races to clear the levels below that. I think the difference from level 35-36 was something like 300,000 Credits.
Also added some more to the "Forum Post" Audi. It's got a friendly little icon on the hood that you all would recognize. Got a CAG name on the roof that reminds me of Fight Club for some reason.

I was more making a joke than anything else. The NSX is a fine car and your reasoning makes all the sense in the world. Im just painfully aware of how poorly a lot of our clubmates drive when they have a car with any sort of power. I feel like Im going to be removing a lot of NSX grills from my bumper after each and every race.
The rings work, I just think they are too big and steal attention from the kickass CAG logo.
Maybe a thin out or even an overlaping semi-fade would help refocus ones attention.
Still, the second I get my Aston Martin DB6 or my Bently, I'll consider pimping those :DI think its a level unlock as its not listed on any prize list. Probably level 15 or 20. Since Im in europe, I win Asian cars so I dont know.
