Ok, so I just finished Jade Empire. Now, I am the first to admit that I like to play straight through a game without taking on as many side quests as other people (I guess when my character is faced with the end of the world, etc. I generally don't want to concentrate on looking for this or that side item), but is anyone else disappointed with the length of these games. I LOVED Fable and I LOVE Jade Empire, but Fable took me 6 hours and Jade took 14 hours 2 minutes. So, while they are both great games, I fell like I need more.

I can't believe you tracked the 2 mins. lol, j/k. how's the replay value with different characters, etc?

I don't know. I mean, from what I understand, I probably skipped a few of the side stories, but I think that replay is probably not going to be that great. You don't control your companions, and with a small amount of exception, you only control the one character throughout the game. Don't get me wrong, it was extremely fun, but I am glad I rented it for a week instead of paying 50 for it.

Hey, like I said, I thought it was great, only it was 14 hours great, not 25 like I was hoping.

Maybe you should think about getting a bit more immersed in the game. It's not a race.

Short games used to bother me, but not anymore. Since coming to cag I have so many games to play, so little time. Wait until you've been here for a couple of months and you have a stack of games to play. You won't mind the shorter games.

That being said I put 35 hours into JE and loved every minute of it. I guess it's a case of you get what you put into it.

I would say it's a decent length game. If you do most of the side quests you'll easilly spend twice that I GUESS. I'm about half way through and I've put in a little more than 14 hours. Then again I'm known to be a slow player.

Please, enough Jade Empire threads. We already have a ton.

I didn't like Fable too much (for the most part I didn't realize how much British accents annoyed me), but I'm really loving Jade Empire. Congrats on finishing the game.

I just got to Tien's Landing and am overwhelmed with sidequests. Seriously, every other person gave me some task to complete. I don't ever remember having this many side quests at once in any other RPG. I could see how if you were to complete some, if not all these quests, the overall playtime would be significantly longer.

I just recently arrived in the Imperial City and I'm clocked in at around 20 hours. I'm pretty meticulous about things though.

wow, you put 35 hours into this game!!! did you do every single quest and look around every corner of the game? just curious not poking fun or anything. i am pretty sure i did every quest, except for 1 near the end at the temple, the side room with the sewer or whatever, other than that i think i did everything on my first play through. fun game, a little on the short side like everyone has said, but fun nonetheless. put in just over 21 hours into the game.

p.s.- the end credits are worth sitting through, trust me on this one.

A little short at 21 hours? I think I see the problem.

For some of us, 21 hours means the game will take three weeks, maybe more, to complete. For others, that's less than a couple day's worth of play time.

I get to the end of some of these 20-30 hour games these days and think "FINALLY! I can move on to the next in the pile."

it took me about 31 hours to complete and i definitely took my time.

there were times in tien's landing, the necropolis and heaven where i would just walk around and look. the environments are THAT good.

with the flying mini-game, the side-quests, the open-ended roaming system... AND the uber-replayability - i'd say i'm happier with J.E. than I've been with any game in a while.

my favorite bioware games list just got a new #2. :)

if you really loved your first play through, and just thought it went by too fast - try reversing everything about the character you played and going through again?

if you were open palm/male/melee, try a closed fist/female/spell caster.

just some thoughts.

Yup, that's the difference between people with jobs and the unemployed!

No kidding.

I remember years ago finishing Suikoden 1 and 2 over the course of 2 days, getting all of the stars.

Now, it's rare that I play even 5-6 hours a week... which makes things even worse, since I probably have enough current generation only games to last me another 3-4 years at least, and then there's all previous era games I've yet to finish... and then the one before that, and the one before that... and then all of those handheld games.

I also have the particulary vexing (to some) habit of not trading in games...

It took me about 18 hours to complete the game. I started over and increased the difficulty to see if the combat would get anymore complex. It had a slight change. Overall the game is pretty sweet and I think the length is about right for me with work and school. It took me about a week to get through it. Once I started playing I was hooked!

im happy with shorter games, playing tales or baiten kaitos i was just dragging myself through (especially combat)
at 15 hours i felt like i did all of the obvious side quests, but ignored most of the followers i would have had interactions with- as it is i just played with the princess as the main follower resulting in a specific ending on that part
at one point the guardian beast/little girl was thanking me for helping overcome some darkness and it seemed like a side quest i had not even encountered had somehow been resolved.
also, i did not do any backtracking, such as the bounty hunter stuff and there were a lot of special fighting techniques i never got
Just reading the review in Play magazine where total play time can reach 200 hours!!! that seemed pure hyperbole

I also found the second disc of the LE quite weak

Hmm... I didn't really get much into this game, it didn't really grab me within the 1st 5 hours, like otehr RPG did. I traded it in 2 days later, and got $35 for it... not bad since i only got the game for $32...

Just beat the game for the first time, went through completely closed fist. Damn here I thought Knights of the Old Republic had a slightly evil ending, KOTOR's dark side ending had nothing on Jade Empire's closed fist ending. Final save is at 21 hours 33 min, but being on the closed fist path mean I told a lot of those people and their errands to stick it. Probably going to play as an Open Palm sooner or later.

I finally got around to starting this (rented it from GameFly). Although I own KOTOR, I have never opened it. This is my first BioWare game.

I chose Wu the Lotus Blossom as my character (I'll always select a female protagonist if given a choice, and she reminded me of O-Ren Ishii) and after a little over an hour, I've just beaten the bandit/ghost/assassin beach battle. I did a lot of exploring beforehand. I'm loving the gameplay so far, but I've always been a fan of the martial arts, the Chinese and Japanese imperial systems, philosophy, and the like, so that's not too surprising. I was scared by all the bad reviews and comparisons to Fable, but JE is a lot more fun for me than Fable ever was.

I'm seriously considering a purchase. I have a weird quirk about me, where I'll rent a game and barely play it because I feel that I should buy it and add it to my collection if I am to play through it completely. Even if I never play it again, I want to own it. Hmm.

I was considering using GameFly's "Keep It" feature and buying the game for $40 since it's in flawless condition. However, I don't believe it's the Limited Edition (How do I tell? There was no extra disc.) and I'd rather have that version for the same price.

i think you can only tell with the second disc. ALso the disc might say Limited Ed on the game. I already traded in my Game disc but still have the Extra disc and case so im going off the extra disc what it says

You said you traded in Jade Empire, but now you want to pay $40 to buy it again? I call bullshit. You lie so damn much.

Z, although I know nothing of slidecage, or whether he's honest or not, I'm 99% sure that the quote you were referring to was the last paragraph of my post. He was quoting me, I believe, but he simply copied and pasted rather than using the "Quote" button or tags.

Just finished playing Open Palm. Right around 23 hours, I think. Truly awesome game, though the way I won the final battle left me feeling a little cheap (Jade Golem transformation is wicked strong). I didn't try that until after I'd gotten my ass kicked a few times though. I'll definately play the closed fist path down the road. Personally, I enjoyed JE more than KOTOR. The action was just so much more interesting and skill based. Both games blow Fable away. I liked the physical changes that Fable allowed, but that was pretty much the only thing it had to add to the RPG genre.

Jade Empire was a great game, even if it was on the short side (it only took me around 20 hours, but that lasted me from the weekend after it came out to this Friday). I can't wait for Bioware's next RPG.

I liked KOTR... I hate KOTR... but, for some reason, Jade Empire looks appealing to me. I just wonder if it's worth the $50.

Okay I just picked up a used Jade Empire LE because I can't find it new anymore. Does the Limited Edition have a Blue disc and a red disc in the case?

It seems like 1 disk is the regular version. and the other disk is the extra content. I assume the extra disk has the extra character on it.

Is that right? My manual doesn't say anything about being the LE version either. Is that normal?

Sorry I'm just a little paranoid since it is a used copy a guess.
