Pizza lovers, do yourself a favor and order from these guys. Hands down, best pizza I have ever eaten. If you live in Chicago you MUST order from here. They recently moved to a new location and they say business is down, which is a shame. Try them out!! If you like them, spread the word. 8-)

Cool, they're not too far from me. I will report back; I'm always trying to cultivate my inner foodie. Speaking of restaurant business being down, my favorite cheap Middle Eastern place that delivers (Sahara Kabob (http://www.grubhub.com/chicago/sahara-kabob/) 6649 N. Clark 773 262-2000 - Assyrian Briany FTW!) was in TimeOut Chicago's "Save this Restaurant" column a few months ago. They give you a ton of food for a moderate price, it tastes homemade, and sometimes they throw in free stuff they're testing for their menu (like spanikopita).

With Half-Price Books, the way they buy is that they give you an offer on the whole of what you bring in. They don't tell you what each item is worth to them. Sucks, but I'm sure it's because it wouldn't be cost-efficient for them to do otherwise. I recently sold two shopping bags full of old textbooks and paperbacks, a bag of old VG mags and a crate of old Architectural Digest mags I found by the trash and only netted $17.50.

HPB does sell game guides and games but selection is hit or miss. No penny guides; usually exactly half off the printed price. Most of the games are in a locked cabinet with low visibility and I hate bugging staff to open if I'm not gonna buy something.

tl;dr whee!

Went to T-mobile (corporate store) the other day to upgrade my phone and was able to pick up a Linksys WRT54G-TM router for 20 bucks.
After messing with it for a few days, the software seems a little shitty. So it might make for a good DD-WRT candidate.

Can't you do alsorts with this router? like change the firmware to a completely modded one?

Thanks.

Yes you can. Linksys are really popular for hackin. I'm going to load DD-WRT on it and try to get it to work with my network this weekend.

Walk over to the CC on Elston and Fullerton today (listening to Black Sabbath most of my walk), didn't see any MS, Sony, or Nintendo games what so ever. The place was picked clean for the most part. Only item I saw of interest was the Sony book reader, still too expensive though. Even the open box TV's were way to expensive. Sign at the door said there were 8 days left.

If anyone does visit a CC with some quality cellphone stuff please post. I recently got a couple new BlackBerry's and I'm lookin for some Bluetooth head sets, MicroSD cards and accessories. Thanx.

The BestBuy on Touy was loaded with anime, and it's 50% off.

I got my missing DBZ: Season sets, and YuYU Hakusho Season 1,2, and 3 for $12.50 each they didn't have 4. Those are the only two shows that I know, but the shelves were loaded.

The target on elston has a ton of clearance games out today:

Xbox 360
-------------
Brothers in arms: hells highway : $13.98
Tomb raider underworld : $13.98

PS3
-----
Rock Revolution : 13.98
Fracture : $9.98
Bolt - $13.98

And they had about 50 copies of "Stepbrothers" on UMD for PSP for $4.98, and a bunch of DS games for around 10 bucks each. There were also a handful of PS2 games too, i dont remember which ones.

I just got home from there, so all of these titles should be there for the next day or so before they start getting thinned out.

I'm not your buddy, guy.

Seriously though, that must have been me - On vacation this week and hit a few Targets yesterday hoping to find anything that had gotten to 75% off. I did have a stack of games but wasn't being a total douche - most was stuff I was taking to the price scanner since it seemed strange just a couple games dropped (Tomb Raider and LR) while the rest of the 360 games stayed at 50%.

Anyway, I do remember someone else checking the clearance shelves at the same time and am sorry to have shut you out. If I knew that you were a fellow CAG or were just looking to get Last Remnant, I would have handed one over. I did get 3 (1 for me, 1 for trading and 1 to flip at BB) so if you still need one, I'm happy to sell it at cost. PM me and we can set up a meet or I can just ship it to you.

Hahaha...nice to "meet" you. I did manage to finally find a $14.98 copy of Last Remnant at another Target (2 left there, too). And I found a Rock Band 1 set for $34.98 for my girl's family, which didn't have the game in it! ARGH.

Also, I went looking for some 50% off anime. The Best Buys I went to had no Afro Samurai on Blu Ray. And I've been out of the anime loop for a while, so I have no idea what's good. Just went looking for what interested me and impulse bought. Picked up Final Fantasy Unlimited and Samurai 7 sets. These any good?

One last thing, the best Buy on Touhy had some some clearance games for 60% off. I picked up Hail to the Chimp for only $8. Belmont and Kimball store had what seemed to be a better "sale." If I read correctly, ANY game that had the $19.99 or lower sticker on it (price inside the BB logo type ) can be bought for an additional 50% off. (Superman, Darkness was $9.99; Conan, Dead or Alive Xtreme beach whatever $7.49, after markdown, all for Xbox 360.) They also had DS, PS2, and PS3 games, but didn't see exactly what titles they had.

Almost the end for CC - looks like Sunday is the last day for all the local stores.

No games at all at Elston, HiP or Berwyn. Did manage to find John from Cincinnati HBO series for $7 at HiP along with a cool CC sign for $1 I picked up for nostalgia reasons (the great $5 CC sale of '04 was my initiation to CAG.)

Unfortunately, the thing wouldn't fit in my car (doh!) so I ended up giving it to a couple of guys who had bought some store shelving and had a van.

+1 for the meet-up. I went last time and enjoyed myself. How many people did we have last time? It was about 10 of us or so, right? Too bad we can't have it at someone's place. I was going to make fun of everyone for living in mommy and daddy's basement, but that's basically what I'm doing for now until I can find a decent full-time job.

I can make it out to Schaumburg if we go to gameworks, but I think that might be hard to manage for a lot of guys. Dave and Buster's I hear is kind of expensive. If it is, it might also be a problem. Me? I'm an alcoholic, so a bar is ideal for me. I went with my cousin to a bar last week that had a NES and PS2 hooked up to two TVs and wireless controllers...and PBR is $1 everyday. Not a bad place.

My cousin's roommate brought beers in her purse and dumped them into a pitcher she bought. The guys next to us brought a flask and dumped that into their drinks. So, I guess it could be basically free if you are sneaky and cheap enough.

I bought shots of tequila for three of us. Those were like $7-8 each, I think, but it was decent stuff. My cousin bought 7 and 7's and I think they were like $6. Pretty standard prices. Nothing too crazy expensive.

My cousin has been going there for over a year and she says although it's still a bit of a dive bar, it has been getting more and more popular. The first time I went, I left because it was too crowded. I think people really like going there because of the $1 PBR. Hard to beat that.

Yes, next month sounds good if we can get the word out there early enough.

Vote: bar or arcade w/ games? If we do a bar, I'd rather do it on a Friday or Saturday night, so that we can have some cocktails. I get too sleepy with afternoon drinking.:D

Khan B.B.Q. is pretty well regarded in foodie circles here in Chicago, named by the Reader as the best restaurant in the city last year:

http://www.chicagoreader.com/bestofchicago08/restaurants/best/

And that's for good reason as an order of chicken boti, broast chicken (maybe a half if a whole is too expensive), daal palak (for that spicy veggie dip), and a piece of naan or two will greatly satisfy a party of 2-4. (The green chutney makes for a decent general topping as well.) I'm glad I live not too far from Khan's myself, but you better be ready for the heat of South Asian food before going. It's certainly my favorite place on Devon.

Anyone who has not yet played either The Orange Box or L4D is completely missing out on 2 great games.

Late adopters of the 360 should also give the Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six Vegas games a shot.

If we do a bar, I'd rather do it on a Friday or Saturday night, so that we can have some cocktails. I get too sleepy with afternoon drinking.:D

Or, if someone wants to host at their house/apartment, we could cook out and get blitzed.

I'm voting for a bar, and a Saturday night would be perfect for me as I usually get off work at 8 pm those nights. I wouldn't need to take a day off to make it. I wouldn't mind having a meet up at my place, but I'd rather go to a meet up first and get to know you all before I'll let a group of strangers in my home :)

The Joystiq Podcast Appreciation Group is doing a meet-up this Saturday at the Lincoln Tap Room, if anyone is interested. I won't be around, else I'd go.

Maybe we could do our meet-up there, too, later in April? It seems like only adults are interested in the meet-up anyways, so I think a bar would be fun on a Saturday night. Somewhere low-key (not Lincoln Park or Lakeview).

Does everyone have transportation, or should we try to pick someplace close to the el?

Howdy all...Chicagoan here as well, just discovered the thread, didn't know there were so many people out in the Windy City! I'd like to be included on any festivities going on in the area--currently hangin' in Lakeview, but gone for most of the week--hopefully we can do something one of these weekends and I can meet some CAGers!

2 left as of 9 last night.

This is Chicago CAG action at work here! I went by Six Corners Sears and nabbed a copy of the PS3 Buzz Quiz TV for $25 last night at 8:30pm. There are 2 left. And still the Singstar Country PS2 for $15. I called the store before but the chick there couldn't find it. Fellow CAG stewie75 gave me the precise location of the game and I found it no problem. Thanks stewie75! If you call and ask then make sure to mention that it is not with the other video games. Its in a metal wire bin with clearance stuff (headphones and other junk) on the back wall with the tvs right behind the main cash wrap. Their ph# is (773)202-2000. When the automated bullcrap comes up say "electronics" then say store (or else you get routed to some call center and they will tell you the stores don't have this but they will sell it to you for $60. NO SALE!)
Thanks to shieryda as well for even finding this deal and sharing it!

Any other ideas?

Looking forward to the meet up, I'm in Evanston. I would say a lake front cookout (with BYOB) would be the true CAG way to go, but as we know there is not guarantee on the weather until June. Maybe I missed the location, but the place with $1 PBRs didn't sound bad. OP what is the location of said bar?

I believe it's walking distance to the Lawrence Red Line stop. It's definitely walking distance to a red line stop around there. Obviously I'll find out for sure if we were to go there. My cousin lives by there and introduced me to the place. I wonder if we couldn't even just take our own PS2 games. I'm sure they wouldn't care. It's a laid back place.

Also, that BYOBBBQ is a good idea. That way we could have everyone there regardless of age and also have a cheap bar tab. Not sure where we'd be able to do that, but I'd be up for it for sure.

Is everyone on the North Side? I'm in Lakeview myself, but the Hyde Park/Kenwood area has some nice parks by the lake. It is a little less accessible by public trans (would probably have to take the 6 or similar line)--but I would recommend Promontory Point (former U of C grad here).

If we do end up partying on the North Side, people are more than welcome to share a few drinks at my place and maybe play a few games (gf permitting, of course).

Pre-going out of business sale most likely IMO. Here in Evanston I've already seen one BB close its doors. The BB financials point towards all their store shutting their doors by the end of the year. It will be interesting if congress decides to bail them out:roll:.

ha! BB means nothing to Congress. They'll be the last to get a bailout. The only reason AIG got a bailout was because they were actually important to our economy... BB had it coming, there have been better services out there for too long. They're just the next circuit city. See ya later. Khan B.B.Q. is pretty well regarded in foodie circles here in Chicago, named by the Reader as the best restaurant in the city last year:

http://www.chicagoreader.com/bestofchicago08/restaurants/best/

And that's for good reason as an order of chicken boti, broast chicken (maybe a half if a whole is too expensive), daal palak (for that spicy veggie dip), and a piece of naan or two will greatly satisfy a party of 2-4. (The green chutney makes for a decent general topping as well.) I'm glad I live not too far from Khan's myself, but you better be ready for the heat of South Asian food before going. It's certainly my favorite place on Devon.

Damn, I had no idea, and I try to read the Reader as often as possible. Ima hafta go back there.

I am playing so much L4D these days, my daughter thinks I'm a zombie. My Steam profile is http://steamcommunity.com/id/dfgarcia/ if anyone wants to hook up for a match.

All these stores closing (CC, BBV, OD) is weird. Hey, anybody familiar with that building in Lincolnwood at Lincoln and Pulaski/Crawford that used to be a Silo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silo_%28store%29)? It's been empty (or at least looks empty) for like 15 years now.

Decided against going to the HIP BB at the last minute, and I hit up the Elston BB. Managed to get all the games I wanted, but DMC 4 sold out and I grabbed the last SC4 for myself.

Also, Silent Hill was sold out and only got one QoS T-Shirt bundle for myself. Sorry I couldn't get more copies for others.

I was out of town in Champaign for the weekend and went to the nearest BB there at around 11:30AM but since that is mostly a college town, all the good games were gone. What is This American Life? Is that stories or something? The reason I ask what station plays that Old Time Radio is because I have a final tomorrow and for extra credit on the test, you just have to find which station plays that stuff in Chicago.

I can answer the second part: "not often enough".:D

We may try and do a lakefront cook-out when the weather gets nicer. Or even at a park that is accessible for most.

We have a few minors, so the bar meet-ups are usually attended by only the seniors of the group.

Quick heads up that the Brickyard Gamestop has some of the recent penny guides, most hard to find.

Valkyria Chronicles
Resistance 2
Prince of Persia Hardcover CE (these aren't on the rotating rack but on another to the right of the registers.)
Mirror's Edge Hardcover

This store is usually impossible to get penny guides from - I had luck today by buying a couple of games along with 1 each of the PoP & ME guides.

Also, this store still has a copy of Valkyria Chronicles in the game day sale bin - at $30 these went fast all over and I think next week GS will start dropping the price even more. If you have a PS3, you should own this game.

Hope this helps - Seems like a lot of Chicago CAGs are out that way.

Aw man, you mean there's no ebay market for them? I've also got a crate of 2E books (tons of Forgotten Realms shit) in my basement and another in my parents' basement. I did go, but it was pretty weak this year (no pics). There is one transformers guy who had a booth. It was in half of a school gym and most of the sellers had large joes, not 3 3/4 inch. I found one of those Motorola "NFL Head Coach" headsets (PS2 / USB) at my closest GS (Howard and Clark) for $1, and then later at the Howard Best Buy I noticed they actually had price tags for their penny guides. Two were labeled which game (Bad Company and Spider-Man Web of Shadows) but 4 others didn't say which game and the kiosk SKU look-up didn't help. How long have they been doing that?

Thanks, I only thought west coast Costcos sell Mexican coke.

WARNING: I found Mexican coke 355mL made with high fructose corn syrup. The bottle was slightly different than the normal Mexican 355mL bottle made with sugar. So just a warning. Always look at the ingredients before you buy.

Also, I noticed that Produce World on Cumberland sells 24 packs of 500mL bottles of Mexican coke for something like $28. The per unit price is on par with Costco. I would have bought it if it weren't for all the Passover coke I stocked up on.

I went to the Play N Trade in Elmhurst once, it seemed pretty douchey. I had some guy trying to convince me that $100 for a disc only copy of Marvel VS Capcom 2 :ps2: was an awesome deal, and that he saw the same thing going for over $200 on ebay.. What a dumbass.

Just to let everyone know that the friday edition of Red Eye contains a $10 off any wii game priced $49.99 good from 5/19 - 5/23/2009. It has a front cover of a new best buy opening. This would be good to use it on punch out.

WeaponX, I see that you go to the same game stores as me. No wonder I can never find any good clearance games at Target in Matteson xD

I got R6V2 for 9.98 a while back , and have never seen anything good for PS3 since.

I never knew there was a regional board on this site. It's pretty cool.

Will have to check this one out. This chain doesn't sound terribly promising based on what I've read about it, but it never hurts to look.

Oh.

Well, I took some brand new, shrink wrapped books in to Half Price, and they gave me a little less than $2 for them. Never taking books to them, again (unless I REALLY need to get rid of them).

I have to head over to the Meijer/US Bank on Gary this afternoon (gotta pay the mortgage). It's only about another 0.5 mile to the PNT. If they're open, great. If not, no big deal.

If anyone is looking for those Hori EX sticks, the Toyr R Us at Riverview (Western Av.) had 4 of them as of yesterday afternoon. Think they were $59.99. I wanted one, but I just couldn't pull the trigger for some reason.

Did you happen to notice if they had a clearance bin for games?

They had one bin that I saw of, filled with all the crap Game Boy games that store has been trying to get rid of for months (years?) now. They did have one copy of Avatar (Xbox 360) for $5 but I already have the achievements from it so I passed.

Speaking of stores not being open, or there for that matter, the Gamestop in Evanston (not the downtown one) at Dodge and Dempster is gone. I thought the company was opening more stores, not closing them. o_O

There was a separate Blockbuster thread goin' for a while there, but it might've been merged into the main BB/GR Thread XXI that now notes the new shipments of cheap used games in the OP (you might have to dig deeper for the actual lists of games found):

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=216693

I haven't been to any BBs in the area in the last week, so I don't know how many stores have gotten anything in. Maybe I'll check out a local store in the next few days, but it'll take some really great finds to get me off my buy-new kick. Happy hunting, all.

By the way, I picked up a penny guide for Battlefield: Bad Company over at the Best Buy in Evanston on Howard Saturday night with that T3 DVD with the Terminator Resurrection movie cash in it (which is only good till the end of the month). The B:BC book was even labelled with a penny price tag in the game-guide section. There were two left after I'd gone. If anyone wants my Bad Company guide (for trade or sale?), let me know.

I go there all the time for the bigger UFC fights or boxing matches. Except Pacquiao fights, which I order at home now. I had get-togethers for his last two fights, and if I knew you were a fan of fighting, I for sure would have invited you.

Danny's Tap Room was one of my regular drinking spots when I lived in the Humboldt Park area. I don't go as often as before since I moved to the Six Corners area. And I noticed you when you were walking to the door but I wasn't quite sure (darn alcohol) so I didn't want to make an ass of myself if it wasn't you.

I was at the Half Price Books in Niles (Village Crossing) last nite to grab some 20% off goodies, and I was shocked to see they had a copy of Planescape Torment in the old big fat box, a copy of FF7 GH, and a copy of Lunar 2 Eternal Blue. Then I saw the prices: 50, 75, 75. They must reference eBay or something. I settled for 2 strategy guides (Disgaea 2 and Baldur's Gate 2 TOB). I picked up a guide for SMT: DS at the one in Highland Park on Friday. I like the selection at the VC one better. So... yeah.

Did it have all the goodies? Also, they have most of their console games in a locked cupboard, and there was a stack of PS2 games with only the spines showing, and there was one game that had the PS2 label and the SL# but didn't have the title. It was City Crisis and was about $20. I don't think that one's rare, judging by eBay.
