Cool. I'll have to give you a call when the next few UFC ppvs are coming up. I want to see that Forrest Griffin fight.
Damn, you guys need to call me up for this stuff. I love UFC stuff (I used to wrestle in high school) and I'm lusting for Pacquiao. I almost went to the Philippines to watch him fight one of my own kind (Barrera) and I was going to root for Pacquiao. That man is as bad as they come nowadays...for a non-Mexican, that is.
Let's get together for the next big fight. Damnit, my friend's laptop is about dead and he's asleep now. I'll be back in Chicago soon.
How about Juan Manuel Marquez v. Floyd Mayweather Jr.? We gotta watch that. Guess who I have money on!

what up chitown? I just noticed this thread and thought I would drop in and say hello. I live in the west loop and happy that summer softball season has finally started (can't get enough of softball).
That mayweather fight could be interesting. I usually catch UFC, WWE, and boxing at home with the internet streams because I don't really have a hangout for that kind of thing (well, that and it's free and I have a big TV and usually too lazy to go out to hunt for a place that shows the PPV's). My friends aren't really into it either come to think of it.

Dunno, but I did leave one new copy of LEGO Indiana Jones (The Original Adventures) for the 360 over at the Game Crazy on Granville and Clark for $9.99. Just make sure no dollar disc warranty's stealth-added to your bill; I did a double take at an initial $12 total and got that taken off right quick. Unfortunately there's not much we can do about the high local sales taxes.

I don't refer to our city as Chi-town, but it doesn't bother me. But I suppose it bothers others. I'd rather worry about getting back our parking meter rates or other more important stuff.

Same here. Also, there's something inherently wrong about using parking tickets for mistakes (didn't see the street cleaning sign) as opposed to egregious assholery (parking in a handicapped spot) to generate revenue. Grrr.

My experiment since the parking meter fiasco is not to pay meters anymore. Ever since the change to the private company, I have not seen any meter maids in my hood writing tickets. I think the new company is so under staffed they don't have enough trained people to write tickets.
So the odds of me getting a ticket are really low and the money I save by not paying those ridiculous rates can go to the cost of a ticket if I get one.

While you can't do anything about telling people how to say the name of this city, you can do something about the parking meters and everything else that the crooks in Chicago politics do. Vote them out of office. Run for alderman yourself if you have to.

Grabbed one of the GH3 bundles at the Six Corners Sears today for, yes, $15. Not sure if I'm gonna keep it. GH really wears out my fingers and I got the original for my daughter in Feb and she hasn't played in months. If anyone wants to buy it off me, holler.
Ooh, also, the selection at the Big Lots at Diversey and Cicero is craptastic. None of the new titles PC Girl mentioned are there. They do have the 360 GHWT bundle but it's $140.

Well I think for the delay is trying to figure our the location and date that would be easy for everyone. I never been to the first meetup but the second was only five of us (bakers square), the third was four (the bar by logan) and this last one at the Father and Son pizza was a great turn out of at least 12 people so hopefully we can think of something so an even bigger turnout would be possible. I would like to do the Gameworks since theirs games and food/bar inside and some decent eats within the mall.

Gameworks is pretty cool, lots of cool non-video games, such as a new take on air hockey and a free throw shooting game on a regulation hoop. Of course the last time I went was about 2 years ago. Hopefully they are better at maintenance than D&B's.

If anyone is out near Crystal Lake (I know, suburban guy) the Gamestop on Rte 31 (newer one near the new Walmart and a Starbucks) I saw some good stuff in the bins on Friday. I almost got it, but they had 1 copy of Tomb Raider Underworld brand new (well it's gamestop so it's not sealed though) for the PC for $15. It was half off. I was in a hurry and feeling under the weather so I can't recall the other ones off hand (sorry, wasn't trying to keep a mental note of them all)...
But now that I found this regional area and finished a massive project was working on, I'll try to help out with updates when I see them for anyone way up here in the NW suburbs.

If I were to attend the meetup ... well, I wouldn't, because not only is the comic-con thing going on [whatever it's called], but I think I'm going to be driving to Iowa and back [long story short, I get a car out of it]. Other days are good though. And Gameworks is pretty awesome.
I went to the BBV at Six Corners [Irving/Milwalkee/Cicero] and they had Lock's Quest and Mercs 2. And Universe of War. Thought about it for a while but I didn't really want any of the games [BlazBlue and SC4 take up my dreams, now, since I already have Brutal Legend paid off at GS w/credit ... actually going to go buy them tonight, I think. The Exchange is going to be there for awhile. It's not like previous used games stores like Disc Replay where prices are based on titles no matter how many copies they have. The Exchange's prices are based on inventory. I've picked up many good titles for $10, $8, or $5 over the years. I'm originally from Ohio and they ran their first store over 30 years ago in Akron, OH - home of LeBron James.:D They've grown all over NE Ohio and in the last 10 years opened 11 stores in the Pittsburgh area. The franchise has finally made it to Chicago, but a year late. They were suppose to open last Fall. I thought I would give this store some credibility for new CAG's who have never heard of it since I have benefited from them for so many years. It's a legit place that's going to be here for a while. It's actually Gamestop's biggest competitor in the NE Ohio area. I have found that sometimes you can find some really good PSX games for cheap. But some games are still overpriced like FFVII or anything by Square Enix or Atlus.

I just visited this store yesterday. Nice and clean, and the titles are well-organized. Check it out, people! I almost bought an Elvis action figure.

The HPB in Village Crossing has some rare-ish PS2 rpgs in the locked cabinet but some are bizarrely priced. The have a copy of Summoner for $125, The Bouncer for 25, Shadow of Destiny for 40. There was a copy of SMT Nocturne for $15 but it only has the soundtrack in there. Also, still a black label FF7 for 80.

I thought the black label FF7 was a ripoff at $50, less 30% e-mail coupon. Why would they increase the price when you can now get the game on the PSN for much, much less?
You may be right about that. I was thrown off by the Summoner price. Speaking of those coupons, I forgot to return/rebuy a guide I found at the Bloomingdale HPB (which has a large selection of gaming stuff) with the 50% coupon. It was only 8 bucks tho. I still need to get out to the Countryside one. Lastly, I think HPB gets the games that Big Lots gets in other states. 'Cause I've found jackshit at the closest BLs.

I bought a crap load of stuff. I got the last Socom PS3 bundle for $15, End War PS3 bundle for $23 + bunch more.
Some of the other things:
Patapon 2 - $5
Star Ocean (PSP) - $5
50 cent - around $10
Folklore - $15
Tomb Raider Underworld - $12 ish
Ninja Blade - $10
Shaun White - ?
Moto GP 08 - ?
Some of the prices are estimates up top. Most of the games did not have price stickers on them, so it's kinda hard to figure what 75% off of ??? is.

So is the North Ave Best Buy. They have some interesting packages.
One is buy a 80GB PS3 (which the rep said they have quite a bit as of Thursday) you get it for $250 IF you buy:
2 games (There are some cheap games there.)
2 accessories (They sell ps3 usb cables for $12. You MIGHT be able to count PSN cards as those 2 accessories.)
There was some other deal if you buy a PS3 you can get 4 games for $60 from a selected list of about 20 games which included SOCOM w/ headset, endwar (no headset), some EA sports games I think. It was a decent list. Think you may need to get 2 accessories. BTW, this store has blue dualshocks.

Not a big fan of the newly remodeled Brickyard Gamestop. I mean the store itself now looks more spacious and nicely organized but the employees = failure. The former employees of EB Games or the ones that used to work at that very store are nowhere to be seen.
Now they have some employees that look like football team rejects, lol. This is how it went for me when I took in four games to do the 20% power trade towards Batman AA:
Me: Walked in
GSE#1: Hi how are you? Can I help you find anything?
Me: No thanks. I'm just going to look around and then trade these games in.
GSE#1: If you need anything, let me know.
Me: Browsing 360 section.
GSE#2: You know, you should really pre-order Halo ODST. That game is going to be hot plus the tour bus is going to be here Sep. 11.
Me: Sorry but I'm not into Halo.
GSE#2: (Surprised) What are you serious?
Me: Yep.
GSE#2: Wow.
Me: Contrary to popular belief, not everyone likes Halo.
GSE#2: *Shrugs*
Me: Goes to counter with games to trade in.
GSE#1: Proceeds to scan them and give me my total trade in credit.
Me: I mention the 20% trade in credit towards the purchase of Batman AA.
GSE#1: I think that promo ended.
Me: Negative. I checked the GS website before I left the house and its still going on. It also applies to Halo ODST and COD Modern Warfare 2.
GSE#1: *Checks around to see if he finds promo sheet with said info. Finally finds it*
GSE#1: Did you want that for the 360 or PS3?
Me: 360 please.
GSE#1: Oh but you know that you won't get to play as Joker right? And playing with Joker is sick.
Me: Nah I don't really care for it since its just the challenge room where you can play as Joker. Besides I'm sure that eventually it will be available as DLC at some point.
GSE#1: Oh no no no no. There is NO WAY that its coming to the 360.
GSE#2: He's right. Sony paid for that exclusivity. That's the reason the game got delayed.
Me: Well I also remember when Darth Vader was exclusive to SC4 for the PS3 and that it was never going to be able to make it to the 360. But of course now it is. Anyways I'm just interested in the main game.
GSE#2: You're just probably interested in the achievements.
Me: Nope. I just simply have fewer games on the 360 than on the PS3 so I was looking to expand my 360 collection a bit.
GSE#1: That's ok. There aren't that many good games for the 360 anyways. You might just get the RROD just by turning on the system.
Me: *Was going to argue that the 360 has great games and that the RROD is not that big of a problem anymore but decided against it*
GSE#1: That'll be $12.18.
Me: Hands him $13 and notices that its a gutted copy. I ask for a NEW SEALED copy.
GSE#2: Unless you pre-order, you won't be getting sealed copies here anymore. All copies after pre-orders are all gutted.
Me: Alright. I guess I won't be buying games here anymore.
GSE#1: Why? Gutted games are as good as new.
Me: But its not new if its already opened.
GSE#1: That's your opinion sir.
Me: Indeed.
GSE#1: Here's your change. Have a good day.
Me: Thanks. Walked out.
From now on I'll go to the GS by Norridge instead. New sealed games and the employees are cool and knowledgeable.

On another note, Sears at Six Corners has several 360 Vision Cams (probably 10) for $4.97 each. The Flip cameras mysteriously reappeared from the backroom, too ($46.97 each - 5 pink and 1 white).

Yeah CAG 79, the previous workers at gamestop and eb stores at the brickyard were not that annoying and helpful. I went to the brickyard store to check it out and the guys keep bugging that I should preorder halo and cod since they already have millions of preorders that those games are hot. I was not thanks and he notice that I had sonic ultimate collection on my hand and the guy was like you rather buy that then use that money for the preorders and I just looked at him and started laughing and told him that this is the last time I'm not interested on the preorders to please stop telling me about it. They were idiots a few minutes later two clerks started dancing in the middle in the store and once I saw that I left the games and walked out.

The BB in Evanston put Fuel for both 360 and PS3 on clearance for $20. Unfortunately, the games ring up in the system at their old price ($39.99/$49.99), requiring a manager override of the price. I saw a Play N Trade in Cicero. What kind of place is it?
It's like Gamestop plus games from classic systems (SNES, NES, etc). Their prices aren't that great, though I don't know how their TIVs compare. I've been to a couple of their stores but walked away empty handed.

I might go check them out anyway since I do want a SNES and a Dreamcast for my collection.
Anyone here in the know for Game Crazy closings? If everything goes right I could check at least two stores this weekend.

I just read Estebon's post about which Chicago area Game Crazys are closing. It's kinda' depressing but not really. I live within walking distance to the one on 43rd and Ashland and it is, or was, awful. The only good find I had there was a complete Tetris DS used for 13$. Also, their Black Friday deals beat Game Stop's by a mile. But they did have it coming.

Can anybody vouch for this place?
http://www.chicagogadgets.com/index.html
They supposedly can fix cracked DS hinges and I got two that need fixing.
I already call Nintendo about it, and they quoted me at $80 to fix both and that is because I had my DSs for over a year now and the warranty expired. They only found this out after giving them the serial number, when I asked them what if I didn't have the serial numbers, they would have taken my word if I said I had bought them less than a year ago and repaired them for free:hot:.
btw, anybody interested.

Well I've never gone to Game Crazy, so it doesn't REALLY affect me, but it is sad that another company trying to compete with Gamestop Corp is failing. From what I understand, though, the only one I would consider close to me is in Elmhurst, and that's staying open!

Anyone want to go in on buying 2 Uncharted 2 copies at Toys 'R Us and then one of us can buy out the other guy for the 3rd copy by paying an extra ~$20 for it.
Or, better yet, if we can find 3 people, we can each get one copy for ~$42 or less.
I live in the near NW burbs, but get to the North side very often.
If you are interested, PM me.

I have a couple extra copies of Valkyria Chronicles (still sealed). I paid $22 (including tax) each at Wal-Mart. I picked them up in case any local CAGs want them. Just looking for $22, or if someone wants to be generous I would trade for a NFS Shift or Katamari Forever. I'm in Evanston, or can meet outside of my work in the downtown area.

I have an extra 29.99 game at TRU I can exchange if anyone wants a game that is 29.99. I would charge 1/3 of the total, so it would be $22 at the next meet up.
I am now a suburbanite (to my dismay). I'll still prowl certain north side game shops (still work in Uptown), but most of my "reports" will be from the NW burbs (Mt. Prospect, Des Plaines, Palatine, Schaumburg). I dropped by a few of the Family Videos in the area, and the selection is sad. I stopped at the Game Crazy in Palatine (Rand and Dundee) and their selection is sparse; stuff still 30% off (grabbed an old strat guide—Two Worlds—and Sam & Max S1) and the clerk said they might go to 50% or 80% off before the store closes this month on the 25th.

For those of you in the NW burbs, Crystal Lake Gamestops are running an unadvertised B2G1 free on used games and accessories. I'd hit it up but it's 50 miles away. Thanks anyway.
I made a run through the west suburbs today to check out Fry's and some of the closing Gamecrazys. Fry's has absolute jackshit as far as the clearance titles from that thread go. My first time there and it feels like a MicroCenter on steroids. Incidentally I also stopped at the Microcenter on Ogden (I forget which burb) and they had ridiculously overpriced stuff. The GCs likewise had shit (2nd time a title I wanted off the shelf they didn't have) but one employee told me they go to 50% off tomorrow. All sales final so no return rebuy; take your chances waiting for 80%. Good hunting.

Free Membership @ Play N' Trade - YMMV
I just came back from Play N' Trade in Cicero, just outside Chicago, and it seems that they are giving free membership to first-time shoppers. Usually the membership runs for $9.99 but when I was paying the employee asked if it was my first time at the store. When I replied yes he offered me a free membership. Just like Game Stop membership is good for 10% off used games and accessories.
This was from another Chicago CAG's thread, but i cant find it now!

Oh, yeah. Thanks for that slowdive21. I went in this afternoon. Their retro collection was pretty decent and they had plenty of used games for current gen systems. The only real problem was that nothing seemed to be under $9.99. They had a Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale but for an ultra CAG $20 for three games isn't worth the bite. They also put these nasty Play N' Trade stickers on the game disc. It doesn't cover any of the disc art but it's still pretty annoying to look at.
On a funny note: the store smelled like someone dropped a nasty deuce in the back. I started laughing about how disgusting it was. What made it worse was that they tried to cover it up with some air freshener. So instead of it smelling like a nasty deuce it smelled like cinnamon mixed in with a nasty deuce.

Coming from a 28 year-old guy, this is going to sound pathetic, but I'm thinking about having a get together at my house sometime after my parents go back to Mexico. The only potential draw back is that it's in the NW suburbs. Although, it's close to the yellow line and can be reached by CTA and a little help by Pace. Maybe shortly after Black Friday would be good so we can see about trading/playing video games we got over that weekend.
This city's CAGsters could use some revitalization.

It'd be in Niles. This is all tentative, so don't get crazy if it doesn't come about. I'm just tired of us not being able to set a date and location for a meet up.

You mean, the next time you go to the trouble to drive around Chicagoland to normal CAGs' neighborhood Best Buys and hoard, and then hypocritically and ignorantly post here complaining about someone else? With that attitude, you should probably fuck off to SlickDeals where you belong.

You've been the guy who has a stick up his ass just because I didn't "know" you didn't use all the RR. You had such a detailed post, I guess I should have known.
You went to elston because I reported it. I report about the details on 5 more locations. Burbank, Crestwood, Elston, Dan Ryan, Countryside etc. I did this so that all the chitown cags could see i''m cool, and I want to help everyone out. I'm not part of your little cliq, and you singled me out when 2-3 other people asked you the same thing about the RR's.
I'm basically done with you. You've probably got a ged equivalent education, and
still bitter about your burger flipping job. I've got a lot more info to share (playntrade TIV's I know someone who works at one) and so on. I started posting here to help cags and I got to deal with your stupid ass. You don't speak for everyone (thank goodness) but until you shut the fuck up, I won't post any details about anything again here. I saved you time, effort, and gas by telling you about how to do it at elston and probably a bunch of others as well. I don't expect a thank you, but I expect you to back off because we're not mind readers and misinterpet your lousy vague post. I'm amazed you were able to pull off the deal so many times since you're a fucking mouth breather.
I stopped at Belmont, Elston, North and Sheffield, and Clark and Diversey, not because of you, but because they're all off the Kennedy on my way to work where I actually teach GED and ESL to adults and kids like you who have a poor command of the English language, and who obviously have the time to drive their mom's car around Chicagoland hoarding and bragging about their video game store clerk connections.
By the way, your uberleet mad reporting skillz about how the first game must be scanned at Elston was wrong, and I have the receipt to prove it. So without your brainpower (and never mind the 100+ page BB thread in the main deals forum), I guess us Chicago CAGs will have to fret about how we'll ever again be able to find a deal in this town.

nb: Best Buy #814 in 60614 is the Elston store

Those kids must all be handicapped since those are the only people I can picture you teaching.
My moms car. LOL!!! Next thing I know, i'll be living in her basement.
Another lol worthy response was that i was a "hoarder". If I was a hoarder, I would have kept my mouth shut. I reported about Belmont, and Elston the day before you went so you already knew how it was going to work. You've got terrible reading comprehension skills so I can only assume two things. 1) You did the opposite of what I posted to you, and your stupid ass thinks you got it free or 2) you got lucky and got it free.
The report about Elston was accurate. I have the receipt as well to prove it. Post your receipt, I could give a shit. I reported the stores and how they worked. The 100+ page thread had no real consistency on how to do things. It was a massive hit or miss. I reported accurate results to chitown cags and thats it. I've had several people pm me and ask for help. I have helped them. Don't you find it odd you're the only asshole in this thread. You can't even man up and admit your original post was vague and left people to assume things. Instead, you'll just throw a massive bitch fit. Like I have stated, you've singled me out because I don't post here much. All the others that assumed you also used up the RR's you've left alone. Fucking coward.
To the other chi-town cags, i'm sorry about all this. Dickless here has some emotional problems and can't let shit go especially when he was the idiot who can't make a simple detailed post explaining things. This is my last post on the subject. Happy Halloween, and I hope plenty of you got in on this deal.
Say hi to the playntrade guy for me.

Ladies and gent's, more proof that dfg is as retarded as the class he teaches. Please note the date of both receipts. The playntrade guy left you a farewell message on the receipt dfg.

Also, to any cags without sticks in their asses. The Gina Carrano ESPN "The body issue" is a big seller on ebay for some reason. Anyone seen any around? Apparently, there are 5 different covers and not all covers were distributed in every city. If you see one, see if you can sell it quickly on ebay.

lol @ fighting over scanning games. Shit. It's 3AM guys. Go rage on the stacks of cheap ass games you bought instead of uploading receipts trying to get blowjobs fellow CAGs :)
And if neither of you can list me the names of the people at the counter, their blood type, your fingerprints on the BB door as well as counter, how many people were in the store (exact number), how many CDs were under the S section, and video tape proof of both of you at each location, I refuse to believe you guys got the glitch to work. ;)
I'm sorry estabon, but you've failed the reading comprehension part of the exam.
If you'll review the text (especially the bolded part), it was never claimed you did not get your $60 game for free; the 10/30 receipt was posted to refute your assertion that without your "telling you about how to do it" the glitch could not have been exploited.
I recommend extra time for studying, getting some tutoring, and perhaps seeing a mental health professional about your persecution complex. And perhaps a dictionary to understand that last bit.
Jesus, I'm glad I don't work on Sundays.
