Does anyone know of any non Dave and Busters arcades around the Chicago area?
There's Nickel City over in Northbrook, 555 Waukegan Rd. in the Brookside Plaza; more info at nickelcitygames.com and (847) 559-8727. A D&B-style arcade can also be found at your local GameWorks (gameworks.com) in the Streets of Woodfield in Schaumburg. For something a little closer to (or, actually, in) the city, there's the loved and/or reviled Dennis' Place for Games, located at 957 W. Belmont in Chicago. I've never been to Dennis' myself (thought it was on N. Clark for the longest time), but you're warned to take your hat off when you go -- house rules.

I Was There A Few Days Ago. The Games Are Only At Twenty Percent Off. Not much Of A Deal. Im Waiting For Them To Drop To Thirty To Fourty Before I Buy. Hope There Is Games Left When That Happens. By The Way. If Anyone Is Looking To Buy The PS3 Genji $699.99 Bundle From Costco, The Lincoln Park One Got Them In Last Night.

There was some good stuff there. I'm gonna wait until 50% off though. Chicago CAGs keep us posted!!

The Sam's Club by Northlake had some Wii bundles which consisted of a Wii system with Twilight Princess for $298.99. I almost bit but my wife somewhat hinted that is what I might get for my birthday. There were more than 12 of those bundles.

I went to 4 different Best Buys for the new guide drops:

HIP
Elston/Armitage
North/Sheffield
Touhy (Skokie)

Found guides only at the Touhy location. I picked up:

Kingdom Hearts II (last one I saw)
Saints Row (last one I saw)
Call of Duty 3
Resistance: Fall of Man (last one I saw)
FEAR (x2, one for a friend)

I also saw an old copy of the Oblivion guide but it had a new UPC sticker on it so I didn't want to deal with it, plus I already have that guide). They had a couple Red Steel, also, if anyone is interested.

20% off isn't a deal to me. I'd rather buy the games at a Best Buy close by me using a $5 off coupon and get reward zone points than drive out to Skokie and waste gas. Anyone been to the downtown CompUSA? I haven't gone cuz I'd imagine parking to be practically non-existant.

And I wasn't even going to go in the Touhy store but I figured I might as well since I was driving nearby it. I'm glad I did. Did you notice that they had alot of Rainbow Six Vegas guides there? We gotta remember that spot when that one drops!

I'll be going to Chicago in about a month, and was wondering if anyone knew some good anime shops, the type that have a large selection of various things such as figures/candy/dvds/other weird stuff/etc. Like an import-ish one, not just the crap somewhere like Best Buy has, I know near me in Michigan we have WizzyWig but I'm hoping to find something down there to :) Anyways, if this is the wrong place to ask something like this let me know, was kind of hard deciding on somewhere.

It is not YMMV. This deal is going on at all gamecrazy stores. If a store doesn't honor the sale have them call the store that knows what's going on (Harlem, North Avenue, Munster IN are a few). If they refuse, call the DM. I have personally only dealt with John Fabian and Adrian Castelleta, both of them are great guys and easy to deal with, but I know that there's another DM named Chuck and at least one more DM in the area that I have not met yet.

Just an update on Chicago stuff. On Sat. I went to the CompUSA Downtown. Still don't bother right now, most suff is still just 10-30% off, no real deals. The CC on Elston still had a few Contact, Rocket Slime, & Zelda Four Swords GBA for 16.96.
Best Buy Elston had a few PS2 DragonQuest for 19.95 plus 25% off.
That's All.

Thanks for the update, especially for the downtown CompUSA update. I wanted to go there Saturday to see if the video games made it past 10% off yet.

EDIT: If anyone is going to pick up Call of Duty 2 ($14) and Call of Duty 3 Gold Edition ($40) for Xbox 360 at Circuit City this week want to do me a favor? Could you pick me up a copy of each and I'd buy them from ya Friday? I'd give you a positive iTrader rating, of course. The money I had to pick these up is now spoken for. I got dam near all my windows on my car busted and that's got to be fixed asap :(

Ok so the games are still jsut 10 to 15% off.

What about the rest of the store?

I'm looking to pick up some mac stuff, pureav cables, and maybe a camera or other electronics. Last I saw most stuff was 30%. Mac only 10-20%. Nothing was moving. Has anything else changed. Are the discounts any bigger. Is the store still full of stuff or is it starting to clear out?

Last time I was in the downtown chicago CompUSA the mac stuff (hardware) was still only 5% off and it seemed as though people had actually picked up a lot of stuff. This was the same deal with laptops too. The larger TVs (37+) were still there and I think you might be able to get some deals but you could wait a while. I'm going to stop by later today so I'll report any news.

I went to the CompUSA downtown yesterday. It was somewhat cleared out of stuff. Or maybe I should say there were areas noticibly thinning out of product.

The computers were pretty picked over, surprisingly. I didn't think $50 off an already overpriced machine was a good deal at all.

The games were starting to thin out a little. Still only like 10 percent off though.

Lincoln Park Costco (Damen, Diversey, and Elston) got a pallet of Wii Bundles in tonight and they will be for sale tomorrow morning when the warehouse opens. About twenty-something come on a pallet. The bundle includes the console, an extra Wiimote, and Zelda for about $319.99 (?)

Last time I checked, video game consoles do not fall under Costco's revised return policy on electronics, so you get an unlimited warranty, also.

Of course, you will need a membership to buy the bundle. Good luck!

Anyone know when the downtown compusa going to close?

They're following a pattern of knocking an extra 5% off per week - the store still has plenty of stock so it doesn't seem like there's any rush to close. I'd guess 4 weeks or so to get up to 50-70% off then a final week where they ramp it up with the last day being 90% off everything - similar to what they did at the Skokie location.

The trick is to time it so the discount is low enough and they still have a good selection. Right now, they still have a ton of stuff in stock but 30% off isn't that much better than using a GGC for something at Best Buy. Some games are even a worse deal because CompUSA always lags behind on lowering MSRP - Blitz for the 360 is still $50 compared to $20 elsewhere.

I'm hoping to last until 40% off to go for some stuff I really wanted (Test Drive: Unlimited, Civil War.)

Yeah, even with the games at 30% off, they still have a lot of them left. I also saw a sign that said the store will be open for only 14 more days.

I couldn't resist. I bought Battle for Middle Earth II (Xbox 360), plus the strategy guide for it. Also picked up 2 (Dune and The Mummy Returns) of what little HD DVD movies they had left. Funny, they still have a couple shelves of Blu Ray movies left.

CompUSA on Chicago Ave still 40% off games - Sign says 10 days left 'til closing.

A lot of the better 360 games are gone now & same for PS2 (they had a dozen or more FFXII last week - nothing now.) Couple of notable 360 games with decent stock - Civil War, Test Drive Unlimited, King Kong, Madden 07, NHL 07, NCAA Football 2K7. These might survive a drop to 50% or more if the weekend tourist crowd doesn't snatch everything up.

360 Accessories picked over thoroughly (no 12 month Live kits left and most of what's left are official MS Component/S-Video cables)

Also, somebody totally cleaned out every PS3 game & accessory sometime in the last few days as well.

One find if anyone doesn't have it yet is a bunch of Elite Beat Agents still on the shelf.

I'll check again Monday to see if the % has gone up.

I was there around 6:00 today and saw a couple of ps3 games (full auto, sonic, drankenguard or something). They were kind of hidden but I think they were more or less misplaced. There were also some Wii games placed behind others (Avatar is the only one I can think of now) Also I was lucky and found a hidden FFXII so I grabbed that. Hopefully that stock of Bully sticks around by monday.

Also if someone really wanted FFXII I would be willing to meet them to sell it back at cost ($32.69). I picked it up mainly because it was the last one. I have a lot of games to go through so I probably won't be getting around to it for a couple of months. So if anyone wants it, it's still in the bag next to my desk.

I was at the Chicago Av CompUSA Saturday afternoon at about noon. I had to buy Blazing Angels and Tomb Raider for Xbox 360 cuz (as far as I could tell), they were the last or second to last on the shelf.

I do want to thank everyone for reporting about the CompUSA clearance status. I plan on going back Mon, Tues, or Wed, for the Star Trek game and a Kodak camera starter kit (I just want the crappy tabletop tripod in it), if the markdown hits a great percentage. If anyone goes on any of these days, please report anything as soon as possible. Thanks!

Yes. I wanted to go back again and get 3 more, but I have to practice some restraint.

By the way, if anyone is looking for blue Gamer Giftcards from BB, the store on Harlem/Irving Park had about 30 of them last night. The coupon expires 6/30/07.

Chicago Ave CompUSA stil said 9 days until closing (I'm pretty sure this is a trick to get people to buy more since they usually knock off a day every other day). Prices were still 40%-60$ with games still at 40%. Still a quantiful selection, just not quality. The've moved everything away from the wall and into an aisle.

I used this sale to stock up on DS games - got lucky in that all were complete w/ box/manuals and in mint condition except for the cases (most were dinged up as happens to all EB used games but easy enough to swap out for a new case.)

picked up...

Monopoly/Boggle/Yahtzee/Battleship
Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales
Lost in Blue 2
Phoenix Wright: Justice for All
Wario: Master of Disguise
Kirby: Squeek Squad

Thanks for the update - I will try to make it Wed to check for a drop but Friday at least for sure. Also, I think I see why CompUSA is closing most of their stores - they had 14 days 'til closing on the 28th but now still have 9 left? Who needs to bother with selling stuff when you can manipulate the space/time continuum?

Any chance there'd still be a Marvel: UA game at CompUSA downtown?

I don't think I saw one yesterday. Also, all that was left for the Wii was two overpriced copies of Far Cry (still at the original retail of 50 bucks), and one copy of "The Grimm Adventures of..." The last copy of Avatar sold while I was there.

On the 360 front there were tons of copies of King Kong, which I actually bit on since it came out to just over 10 bucks. PGR, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, NHL 2K7/2007 were all there in spades. There were a few copies of Oblivion (regular edition) floating around as well, but it was still too rich for my blood at this point.

DS selection is crap, mostly Burnout and crappy licensed games. Lego Star Wars II was the only stand out there. PSP has a ton of games, PS2 selection is great, but XBOX is mainly sports titles. If it drops to 60 anytime soon, there could be some pretty damn good gets in the bunch.

Computers are still quite overpriced (20 percent off I think, but none of them seem like deals).

In a rather funny note, someone literally bought the chair the security guy at the exit was sitting on while we were there. The staff thought it was a joke at first and laughed it off but the guy was dead serious. Liquidations bring out some interesting people to be sure.

PGR3 (5 or 6)
Eragon (3 or 4)
Pimp My Ride (several)
Kameo (1, maybe 2)
NFS: MW (2 or 3)
NFS: Carbon (4 or 5)

Madden 07 (several)

I think I saw a coupla copies of Odin Sphere at the Best Buy in Skokie (Village Crossing). That I also saw copies of Disgaea 2 at some random Best Buy makes me doubt how rare or hard-to-come-by those titles will be in the near future.

FYI for any Chicago CAGers, and specifically RPG fans, who are looking to take advantage of the EB/GS B2G1 starting tomorrow, the GS in "Ravenswood Manor" on Montrose west of Western has 1 used copy each of all 3 Shadow Hearts games, if you wanna grab those in one fell swoop. I also saw 4 used copies of Disgaea 2, 4x of La Pucelle, some Suikoden Tactics, and a Suikoden 5, 0 Tales series games, and 1 copy of the 50% off FFXII CE. Also a coupla copies of the $5 Rumble Roses.

I'll second Reckless and also Dr. Wax (on the north side) as good record shops. The former has locations in Wicker Park and on Broadway in Lincoln Park/Gold Coast-ish and the latter in downtown Evanston and also on Broadway but further north in Lakeview/Rogers Park/Uptown.

Also, I can confirm the GameCrazy +50% promotion going on here, at least for the one on Clark in Rogers Park and whichever store the clerk called, but they didn't know about it immediately; she went through a stack of printouts from corporate and found a coupon code she had to enter manually. 4 trade-ins before boost ~$54 credit, after, $85 credit.

They never made a guide for Shadow Hearts in the USA. There's a Japanese guide if you can read that or there was a mini-guide that came out in the UK - Not sure if it was a pre-order thing or came included with the game but it's small (instruction book sized) and doesn't cover the whole game. It's also very rare so only place to find it now is Ebay.

Unfortunately, the best bet is something like gamefaqs for any real kind of help.

K-marts in the city or close burbs that I can think of off-hand

Addison just east of the Kennedy

Elston just east of Cicero/Edens Expy (and just south of Foster)

Harlem and Irving Park

73rd & Pulaski (just north of Ford City East/Daley College)

95th & Kedzie? (somewhere between Western & Cicero but it's been awhile so I'm not sure.)

There's also another way south on Harlem (83rd St or thereabouts)

Sure there's more but that's all I can think of right now.

I'm looking for a Wii :wii: also. I just stopped by my local Gamestop and talked to the manager there. He said most likely Monday or Tuesday they should get some in.:bouncy: If he calls me I'll let you know.

I went see the fireworks in Evanston last night with my wife and daughter and I passed by the GS there (downtown one). They had them in the display window with the price advertised ($249?). I hadn't realized they were in short supply in our town.

Also, I hit up the CC in Village Crossing on Tuesday looking for that $5 mp3 player but the clerk told me they sold out fast.

Costco on Damen, Diversey, and Clybourn in Chicago got in a pallete (24 sell units) of Wii bundles last night and they will be for sale as soon as the doors open this morning, It's the system, an extra Wiimote, and the newest Mario Party for $329.99.

I predict it will sell out by Sunday afternoon.

Clearanced for $63? That sounds more like a deal of the week instead of clearance. Maybe someone should refer the management to a dictionary to explain the meaning of the word.

Here's my annual Chicago thread semi-jack.

I'll be in town the first week of August, and I'd really like to hit up a Cubs game. According to the website, there aren't two consecutive seats available for the August 2 afternoon game. I'd settle for attending the August 1 game, but I'd rather go during the day.
Perhaps a local would be kind enough to point me in a better direction (or be very kind, and pick up a pair somewhere for me)? If so, please shoot me a PM. Many thanks.

Off topic, but you could try www.stubhub.com

You could also show up around the stadium about an hour before the game and scalp. there's always tickets.

If you're looking for the best deal, then scalping is the way to go for a mid-week game. With the Cubs tanking as usual, you'll be able to pay face value for 2 seats together (or less if you bargain well/wait 'til starting time.) Also working in your favor here is the opponent in both games is the Phillies - not a team that's a big rival or much of a draw.

Plenty of ticket brokers if you wanted to avoid something last minute like scalping - they will add a surcharge though.

If you're going to try buying tickets around the ball park, first try going to the Wrigley Field box office and checking if there really are no tix available together. A friend of mine did that and scored 2 tickets even though cubs.com/mlb.com says only single seat tix are available. Of course this is YMMV...

Eh, look at the sports tickets posts. Personally, I don't mind anything Chicago-related.

I don't know if they do custom stuff, but there's a big cycle shop on Touhy across from the Lincolnwood Town Center. In Lincolnwood.

Here's a unique flipping opportunity for Chicagoland CAGers:

http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/472555,CST-NWS-guns18.article

"The third annual CAPS Gun-Turn-In event will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Guns turned in at any one of 23 locations will be destroyed, no questions asked. No one will be charged.
Because of contributions from Chase Bank and other businesses, gun owners will receive a $100 prepaid MasterCard for each gun surrendered."

Time to hit up those pawn shops!

Well, just wanted to let someone know.....

The K-Mart on Roosevelt near Desplaines in Forest Park had ONE Wii in stock when I went there last night. The store is never really that busy, and the electronics section is usually empty, so it might still be there.

I have a question for you all here in Chicagoland. Has anyone gone to any pawn shops and scored some deals on games or found some rare games? If so, has anyone found a shop that seems to get/have a good selection of games? Care to share your info with the rest of us?

I usually hit up Disc Replay on Golf Rd & Roselle and the Disc Replay on Army Trail Rd, I think its Bloomingdale. Haven't seen any Wii games there yet but I did score a Sealed Wii remote for $30 recently. They do have decent prices on PS3 & 360 games. I know right know right now the store on Golf Rd has a ton of used wireless 360 controllers I think they were under $30. I even saw a used PS3 there.

I've checked a few pawn shops for games (1 fairly regularly since it's across the street from work) but I've never found a really good deal. I'd say it's like a lot of the CAG YMMV deals (Walmart clearance being #1) we never seem to get in Chicago - unfortunately we miss out by being in a big city.

Has anyone seen any Urban Reigns or Yakuzas at any Best Buys here in Chicago? I went to two yesterday and they were neither on the shelve or in the front lane. Anyone notice these?

Nice. I was wondering if they'd do a pm. I had to special order the cards from CC, because they were out of stock.
