Ok, so I like many others am in the mp3 player market. I used the pricegrabber thing here on CAG, and found this

http://www.compuplus.com/insidepage.php3?refer=pricegrabber.com&id=1003483#description

I had never heard of archos until this, but there are some good reviews for it. Anyone here had any experience with archos?

I like it b/c it's small and spacious....are there any others out there comparable to this in space, price, size?

tia.

Get a Creative Zen or Zen Touch. You'd get a lot more value for your buck. I haven't heard much about the Archos though.

yeah i've checked out the creative's, but the archos is more memory, smaller size and considerably lower price tag.

but i've not ruled creatives out....just trying to do some comparitve shopping.

I'm so sorry.. you just missed one of the best deals I have seen on an mp3 player in a while...

Damn, it's refurbished but that's still one hell of a deal. The Gmini is definitely a good deal, especially because of it's size. But the creative zen is also a good choice for a less expensive MP3 player, you can find the 30gb version for around $200.

That is SO fucking lame! I saw this deal yesterday on techbargains.com, and researched a bit. I saw a post on the mistic river forums about how geeks.com had quite a few complaints issued with the BBB in San Diego (http://www.sandiego.bbb.org/commonreport.html?compid=1019180), and also how if it's not FACTORY refurbished, then it's kinda risky. So I emailed them yesterday about the item, and it's ALREADY OOS! I bet when/if it does get back in stock, the price will be higher...:bomb:

EDIT: And here's their response (note: I have no clue why it says I sent it on the 28th, when i sent it on like Saturday or Friday night, when it was in stock):

Dear Cenzig,

The item is not in stock anymore so i am not able to tell you who refurbs it...
also sales policy pertains to all item refubs and non refurbs.

Fabian

I'm surprised no ones heard of archos. I've seen their portable movie/music players before and they are very attractive. here is the C-net review:

http://reviews.cnet.com/Archos_Gmini_XS200/4505-6490_7-31151949.html?tag=pdtl-list

CNET gave it a 7.7 and the user review average is 7.4. This is obviously the best price you're going to get for a 20 GB MP3 player.

The above are Creative HD Mp3 players. same rating for a 30 gb so this ones your call.

Yeah, I own the gmini 400, and I liked the video capabilities alot..... until I got my psp. Now the screen just doesn't compare. lol. If only the psp had 20gb's of storage for all of my videos like my gmini 400 does.

i had an archos, and it worked (and still works) really well, it was a much older model, i think i got it 2 or 3 years ago, but i can fire it up right now (maybe after it charges?) and itll work fine.

i had the jukebox recorder 20 model, it was pretty big and heavy, but it got the job done and at the time was a very reasonable $199 AR

I got a 15gb 1st Gen Dell for $150 when they were phasing them out. They are pretty comparable to the ipod in size and somewhat in features ( but it still is not as nice as an ipod IMO ) but now the 20 gb ones are about $220 new. I would recommend getting the Dell.

EDIT: Actually they repriced them- the new 30gb model is $239, but the 20 GB one is $249. Makes no sense.

I'm thinking of buying this one, does anyone think this one is any good?:

Rio Cali 128MB with expandable memory for $57.06 shipped
http://www.6ave.com/product.jsp?x=CALI128MB&zipz=11001

Its expandable buy using an SD card. Found 1GB SD cards for about $70 so it would be about $110 for a 1GB+ mp3 player.
