Here's the kicker...the game looks freaking unreal. The "screenshots" that have been released thus far are absolutely ridiculous. The one of the parked gray truck simply cannot be in-game. It's just that good. Most people who see these images don't believe they are real, but some of the media were labeled as screenshots, so we have to take Steel Monkeys' word for it. If the next-generation of consoles and PC graphics cards truly are as powerful as they're being made out to be, then visuals like these should certainly be possible.

That first pic looked like a picture of some guy walking on a sidewalk until I saw the bigger pic. I know you're probably sick of seeing "screenshots" by now, but these look great if indeed they are as real as Steel Monkeys says so. We've seen many reports of devs that are indeed working on these next-gen games saying that the pics that are circulating are too low of an expectation of what to expect. Yet everyone dismisses them as lies. CG, or exagerations, but this has been a consistent claim by pretty much everyone. When do we start accepting these as possibilities and not a point that simply cannot be reached?

The cars and people look like they're made of plastic. For such a powerful console, I'd expect to see better lighting techniques used. Also, the walking guy in the first picture...the shirt needs some work.

Yes I would recommend to him less starch next time. I agree that the lighting needs some touching up.

Where do you see people looking that good in a game?

everything is too clean and looks like its lit by a flourescent tube. they need to get the coloring of sunlight down and that truck the cop is writing the ticket for. where's the gum on the sidewalk? all the dirt and grime that eventually darkens a sidewalk. and the tailgate of the truck. it isnt that shiny even after a wash and wax. put some dirt on the bumper or a little soot on that shine.

Edit: I just clicked the link, and it took me to IGN's pc games site, not xbox 360, I'm sure a powerful computer (a VERY powerful computer) would be able to have graphics like this in gameplay

I highly doubt that that's gameplay, the graphics are amazing though
as for the backgrounds, it seems that they took actualy pictures and incoporated them into the game

These screens don't mean anything. Look at the advertisements in the window. You can actually read them. Most games just put a white square with squigles in it if anything at all. Whats my point? Such attention to miniscule details would push game developement into decades. This demo probably took more time to make than some of the last generation games.

I doubt were going to see a finished product that looks remotely like this.

You could easily have backgrounds that look that good, on today's consoles, as long as the background is static. But, I don't think any console in the coming generation can render that in 3d, in real time. The cars and people, while good, don't look spectacular, so that wouldn't be a big deal, its the environment that looks good.
