I know this question may not apply to a large portion of registered users so feel free to go with soft drink if you want.

I was fortunate to stumble upon this micro brewery about six years ago. They are based in Vermont and are now distributing throughout the northeast. By far they create some of the tastier beers and ales I've ever had. The "Blind Faith" rules.

I know a lot of people would rather drink cheap swill.... but for those who consider yourself a beer connoisseur..... tell us about your favorites and post a link if you have one so we can all check it out

Their Black & Tan makes my knees weak.

And to snotknocker, whatever you do, don't drink their "Fat Angel" or #9. The Fat Angel tastes like its name and #9 is a apricot-imbued hoppy pale ale...gross, unless that's your thing.

And if you ever really want to just be blown away,

www.boddingtons.com

Boddingtons is bar none the finest beer in my fairly extensive alcohol abuse history. If you've had it on tap, then you know the tall yellow cans don't cut it but even still, if you get your hands on 4-pack, you'll know heaven won't be far along.

Cheers.

As far as microbrews go, the Buffalo Brew Pub has some nice in-house beers on tap. My favorite is similar to Sam Adams Cherry Wheat.

We started a small club here called the ABC Brew club where we go to a different bar every few weeks starting with a different letter of the alphabet. It's a great way to try new things and find new hangouts. If the place sucks, at least you're with people you know.

I'm used to just having Molson (172 twin labels collected and counting) or Labatt when I'm out otherwise.

I don't even know what a microbrew is, so I'm gonna back away slowly and drink my Coke in the corner.

I'm all about Canadian Beer, Molson XXX being my personal favorite. As far as Microbrews are concerned, Brooklyn Pennant is pretty good, and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is another good one.

I'll drink it as long as it's not sex in a canoe (something that is pretty Shaq-Fuing close to water)

I'm lucky enough to live in the cradle of the majority of the nation's microbreweries...the Seattle to Portland corridor is absolutely rife with kick-a$$ breweries and brew-pubs. It's pretty hard to go wrong. A couple of my favorites:

www.pyramidbrew.com

Their holiday beer, SnowCap, is one of the best things you could ever hope for. Malty and good, and 6.5% or so alcohol content. Warm in your tummy.

www.dicksbeer.com

Their Irish ale rocks - I had a keg at my wedding. They also have a winter ale called Dick's Double Diamond that is quite nice, and pushes past 7% alcohol content.

One of my VERY favorites is a brewery called Orchard Street, in Bellingham, WA, and sadly they do not have a website - it's small. All of their beers absolutely rule, on tap or in the bottle. They have another of my all-time favorites, Jingle Ale (can you tell I'm big on the winter ales?), which is somewhat more balanced and slightly spicier than SnowCap is. Also pretty amazing is their Stock Ale, a slightly hoppy, slightly spicy ale that works pretty much anytime of year.

There's also a small chain around the OR and WA area called McMenamin's - they brew beer, make wine, and distill spirits even at one of their locations, and all of it is great. They also run hotels and awesome brewpubs, everyone chock-full of personality and charm. Highly recommended if you're ever in the area.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that it's not exactly a microbrew, though it's certainly not the number one seller in the U.S., and that's Guinness, which is good any time, and certainly close to my heart.

Personal favs include (but are not limited to):

Shiner Bock - www.shiner.com - made in a tiny texas brewery, you can actually find their two main brews (Shiner Bock and Shiner Blonde) in most east coast package stores. Defintely worth a try, especially since its usually pretty cheap. Also very good on tap, if you can find it.

Kilkenny - I can't find a site for this beer, but it is one of my all-time favs. I have never seen it in the US, but supposedly it is available on the west coast. I tried it for the first time in Berlin about 6 years ago, and then drank my weight in it when I hit the UK a year later. Imagine all the best qualities of Newcastle and Boddingtons, with the head of Guinness; that's Kilkenny.

DogFish Head Brewery - www.dogfish.com - small Deleware brewery in Rehoboth. They have some brews that are great, but there's this one that tastes like soy sauce (much like Sam Adams Triple Bock); YUCK! Most of their brews are great, though.

Ur-Kostritzer - no site for this one either, but it is a rockin' german brew from Leipzig. I had a lot of it in Leipzig when i was there, but i thought i would never find it in the states. However, last year when my band made a stop in Tampa, this bar called the New World Brewery had it on tap. ...needless to say, my band did not give its best performance because of this fact.... anyway, i haven't seen it outside of Florida or Germany, but if you see it give it a try; it's dark, but not terribly stout.

BTW, if anyone can tell me how to score some Kilkenny in the states, i will be forever in your debt![/b][/url]

Beer is no good. I can't figure it out, I'm from Wisconsin and I can't drink the stuff. Maybe it's because I don't like malt...

Now whiskey on the other hand....

Dogfish Head Story:
I went to the Pocono Brewing Co. in PA for dinner. The place was packed to the brim with like a 60 min. wait for a table. So off to the bar I went with my wife for a pre dinner drink or 2. As I browsed thru the list of micro brews. One caught my eye. Dog Fish Head Immort-Ale.... so I ordered one up. The bar keep served it up with a little sh*t eating grin on his face. A very unique and robust ale. I ordered another and received it with the same grin... thinking nothing of it at the time. They called my name for my table and I grabbed one more before the sit down. After placing the dinner order I tell the waiter to bring me another beer with my dinner. All of a sudden I begin feeling a little flustered and a little lightheaded. I feel like I might be coming down with something and start to get a little nervous. The waiter comes with the food and the beer which I immediately start swigging on. After seeinmg me drink like half the bottle in one big sip He exclaims " you better be careful with that stuff it's 13% alcohol by volume. Almost instantly a wave of calmness rushed over me. I was not getting ill. I was getting tanked. Well I finished my dinner knocked down 2 or 3 more ales at a leisurely pace and stuck around till closing listening to a sh*tty band. I had a great time.

^^^HA HA HA!! i'm glad to hear that!! Honestly, the first time i ever went to the DFH Brewery was also the first time i'd ever been drunk in front of my folks. I was about 22, and neither my dad nor I realized how strong the beer was; we were reduced to a couple of piss and vomit factories in about an hour. It was silly.... My mother and 2 aunts didn't quite know what to make of our sorry asses. all i know is that i woke up the next morning with a DFH hat on (i had apparently bought it), a headache from hell, and a diminished will to live....

They have a beer called "Final Absolution" that's KILLER.

http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/rate_results/112/412/
"Old Rasputin" - Awesome Russian Imperial Stout

http://www.bellsbeer.com/
"Oberon" is an excellent summer wheat beer. I crave it every spring and sadly say goodbye every fall.

Of course... True cheapasses brew it themselves! I've got a molasses beer and a stout fermenting right now!

Samuel Smith (http://www.merchantduvin.com/pages/5_breweries/samsmith.html)! Best. Beer. Ever. The nut brown ale, taddy porter, and oatmeal stout are among the best I've ever had. A little pricey, it will run you 8.00 for a 4 pack, however, it's worth every penny.

I'm a sucker for just about any English beer: Newcastle, Bass, Boddingtons, Youngs, John Smith --good stuff.

The Ommegang Brewery (http://www.ommegang.com) near Cooperstown, NY makes some great Belgian style ales. While my tastes have changed, I still have a soft spot for FX Matt's Brewery (http://www.saranac.com) in Utica, NY. Home of Saranac beer and the once popular Utica Club. I went to to college in Utica, and spent many Friday afternoons in the brewery tour hitting up the free samples.

Beer is good.

I am not a huge fan of microbreweries but there are two good microbreweries in town (Court Ave Brew (http://www.courtavebrew.com/) and Raccoon River Brewing Co (http://www.raccoonbrew.com/)).
I am a High Life Light and Miller Light kind of man. If I am feeling rich I drink New Castle, Blue Moon or Killarny's.

Granite City has great microbrews; not a lot to choose from but all excellent. I'm particularly fond of the MaiBock (think Amberbock only smoother and with more flavor) and their stout beer which I find much easier to drink than say a Guiness. That higher alcohol content got me the first time too. A couple of 25oz mugs and I was feeling pretty good!

My pick has to go with Fat Tire from New Belgium brewing in Colorado

Wow a good topic!

I have many favorite brews.

My favorite microbrew is probably
Troegs http://www.troegs.com/
It's made in Harrisburg and every saturday they give free tours through their duplex garage sized brewery, with free taste testing at the end. I loved the tour, and drank much of this stuff when I was at Penn State.

I would have to say my most favorite minibrew (larger then a microbrew, not a giant factory) is
Saranac http://saranac.com/home.html
With Saranac you have beer crafted to exacting standards without the 100,000 gallon taste. If you can try it, I think you'll like it to... just skip the chocolate lager and caramel porter (christmas ideas gone horribly wrong)

Favorite Import
Belhaven Scottish Ale http://www.belhaven.co.uk/index01.html
I'd shoot me own fader for a pint of dat stuff!
The only thing I've had that I've given a 10 to... guiness got a 8.
Old Specked Hen http://www.oldspeckledhen.co.uk/
My oh my a pint of that stuff sure goes down easy with my corned beef and cabbage.

whoa, got alittle silly there, I need to make a mental note, find a local pub that has belhaven on tap. This driving in to Philly for a pint is for the birds.
