Yes, I mean DVDs from the communist countries of China and Hong-Kong (I swear those are not separate countries).
Anyways, I have a few questions.
1. Are they real?
2. Do they work?
3. Is the packaging the same as the NTSC version?
I really want the seasons 1-8 box sets for the X-files, but cannot afford the American price (bare minimum is well over $500, average is $800).
Would it be worth it to buy it off a Chinese eBay member for slightly over $100? (shipping for 8 box sets, or 61 DVDs, would cost more than $30 from China)

Are you sure they are dvds and not vcds?

DVDs with boxes, supposedly exactly like the American ones only with added Chinese subtitles.

I would doubt that then...they are certainly bootlegs. I've bought a very few anime boxsets that were bootlegs and the quality varies, but for a situation such as this I wouldn't advise it.

I agree. What region are they? Asian imported movies are a very sketchy thing. I wouldn't do it unless you were willing to take a risk on wasting your money.

The first and third links state a different amount of total DVDs. They advertise genuine dvd and dvd quality, sounds fishy to me. I would not do the second as he does not accecpt paypal. Your money your call..... Good Luck!

1. Are they real?
You mean are they legit? If the difference in price in huge, then it's probably bootleg. (Most of the Asian ones on ebay are.)
2. Do they work?
Bootlegs are usually all region, so they should work. All the ones I've gotten always worked mostly. (One DVD I got once was defective.)
3. Is the packaging the same as the NTSC version?
From my experience, probably not. They usually have minimal packaging (no booklets or special inserts). I visit Taiwan a lot and have bought my share of bootleg DVDs. Like someone said earlier, quality varies.

Dang, I just want to watch some X-Files!
Why must it cost so much more than all the rest!
I wonder what MacGuyver would do...

I feel your pain. At a hundred bucks a season for the real versions, the bootlegs don't seem so bad.

I woudln't order any of those...if you look at all the details there are usually some subtle untruths to them. Take the 1st link for example. The seller says the encoding is for U.S. territories, yet it's an "Asia Collector's edition" that doesn't make a whole lot of sense...

MacGyver, he would infiltrate FOX studios, hack into the computers using only his pocket knife and a rubber band, then change all the MSRPs to $10 a piece.

Actually, MacGuyver is an electrical engineer and a computer programmer.
Amazon.com would have a glitch and the complete X-Files series would cost $150 shipped.
