okay i went from a single tuner box to a duel last week. The first box worked for 5 mins before BIG GREEN FLASHES started. they came out Last tuesday put in another box and last friday they put in another box. and they came out today. we can not get VIDEO ON DEMAND or PPV. they are trying to say now that this is common and they have a lot of people saying this. BUT if this is common then why didnt they tell me this before i upgraded (i dont think you can downgrade cause they dont have singles anymore)
QUestion is
how many people have COmcast with a Duel Tuner DVR box and their Video on demand or PPV movies are working or not.
im going to call them up either later today or tomorrow and see if they will give me a price break (though i doubt the people will ) I mean i wasted 4 days and it was just a major run around. Hell today the person didnt even come into the house

:) if you deal with the cable you would of probally been hearing me complain (called like 6 times in last 2 weeks)
the person said they been having tons of problems with the DVR box (sounds like pushing the blame) cause they took months to get the single tuner out and we had to complain like crazy to get one of those. They said they would never put something out that had bugs in it yet they are saying that the DUEL tuner is full of bugs and many people dont have video on demand. Im to call later today to see what they will do about it. I doubt they will do a thing about money being knocked off due to the fact that VOD is Free , Yet they are pushing something that they cant offer us...
i might call them up around noon and see what they say. it would rock if they would Wave the DVR box fee every month but i doubt that. The day comcast gives something about free is the day the stock market hits 100,000 : )

Video on demand is FREE you should go to channel 1 and see if it works (at least its channel 1 here) you have like 100 Free movies and if you have HBO or the other movie channels you get those free as well

You go to channel 1 for on demand stuff? We just hit the menu button then choose 'On Demand'..

this is why i've stayed with TiVo despite their inability to produce affordable HD and duel tuner boxes.

I use Comcast cable/internet, but I use the standard cable package to save $5 a month. How's that for cheapness?

Yeah, I've USED On Demand.....just nothing really interests me. I don't have HBO anymore, since I'll get everything on DVD if I want it.

well you got to understand how cheap comcast is they are not going to run out and buy 1000's of new controllers when the old ones work fine and you have to move to channel 1 to get there. : )
I think tivo dont have duel cause the are too many bugs. The dude came out with a normal Digital box and another DUEL tuner. and the normal box worked in a second but the Duel wouldnt even turn on. I moved up from the Gold pack (2 movie channels) to Plat pack (5 movie channels) But i plan on recording like 20-30 movies and then watch them when i go back to basic cable Take that comcast lol

Just yell and holler at Comcast enough and they'll bend pretty quickly. They screw something up at my place about twice a month. I usually just call and tell them what they did wrong this time, and they reimburse me in some way. Already, I've gotten two months of cable and internet free because they shut everything off when they weren't supposed to(in the midst of a huge set of eBay auctions I had going, no less). I'm sure their heart is in the right place, they're just too big, so the left hand doesn't know what the right one is doing.
I also like how they're telling their CSRs in India(during the late night when all the American CSRs are asleep) to use American nicknames. Nothing cracks me up more than to hear some heavily-accented Indian who is clearly thousands of miles away telling me his name is "Chuck".

well got off the phones it seems we will get 25 bucks knocked off our bill for 1 month though we will not have VOD or PPV with the Duel box. so might as well say that paid for the truck roll last week. What really sucks is I asked if i could have my single tuner back and they said your only choice is DUEL Or none
o well didnt really watch VOD that much but will miss the PPV
it will be interesting to see this months bill cause we was to have 20 bucks knocked off last week when none of our movie channels worked

I have Cox cable but they use the exact same Motorola box. I have had zero problems with it and have used VoD frequently (no PPV though).
The problems that they say are normal are not normal. You shouldn't have to put up with an "upgrade" that reduces the functionality that your old box had. You need to call and complain now, and every single week that this problem persists. Make sure they give you credit back (cost of the box and DVR service) for each month that this occurs.
When you say that VoD and PPV "don't work," what exactly is happening?

well you go to channel 1 or hit on demand.
screen pops up to active service hit okay then it flips to please wait this channel will be shortly then it filps right back to to activate service hit okay then flips to please wait this channel and keeps doing that
i say it sounds like its caught in a loop cause that is what it looks like to me. i doubt they would give you the DVR box price back each month cause they would say noone is forcing you to take the dvr box and you know that taking this box your VOD and PPV wont work. the person on the phone said when they gave me the 25 . DO you want the DVR Or do you want VOD and i was like since i need the DVR i need to keep it and they go so your saying you dont want VOD OR PPV and i said i have no choice and that was it

Well that is totally jacked up then. Do they advertise that you will lose VoD and PPV when you choose this box? If not, then how can they tell you that you need to choose one or the other? You should be getting all the functionality that you had before, plus the DVR. I would ask to speak to a supervisor and tell them that until you get all your functionality (or they change the literature on that box) that you want your fees deducted each month. If they give you any shit, use the "satellite" word and watch how quick they jump.
EDIT: It does seem like Indiana might be having a lot of problems with these boxes. I found this post on avsforum.com

This is somewhat off-topic but does anyone have any experience with using a Comcast cableCARD? I know the current models are only one-way (i.e. no use of on-screen guides or pay per view) but can anyone relate their experience? I'm on the verge of buying a 26" Sharp Aquos but I wanted to know if it's worth it to spring for the slightly more expensive model that includes a cableCARD slot...

Comcast does not outsource any calls to india. We do have a outsourcer we use but they are in canada.

I haven't had direct experience with CableCard but since version 2 is in the works, and will allow PPV and Channel Guides, etc., I would hold off. No need in paying for something that will be obsolete in a year or so.
Then again, if the price difference is minimal and you don't like having a STB or using a channel guide, it might be worth a shot.

since you work for comcast let me ask you. today comcast came out to disconnect everything (internet and cable). the guy got out of the truck and did something (couldn't see from the window). 5 minutes later he gets back into his truck and drives away. i expected him to come to the door for me to sign something. anyways, all my shit is still on cable and internet wise. there are two cable companies in town. i used to use the other, so i figure (at least hope) that he got out and disconnected some useless line to my house...leaving me w/ the free hook up.
is this possible, or will all my shit turn off tomorrow?

it usually takes 24 hours for the work to get complete i think so your service should be off by tomorrow. I called to cancell my cable and it was on for 3 days after it got cancelled..
