No one who is not a moderator is allowed to say "Lock this thread" or something to that effect.

Why?

YOU JUST SAID IT!

"What, lock this thread?"

YOU SAID IT AGAIN!

It seems like for every off-topic thread someone will eventually post "This is stupid, lock this thread". It doesn't change the world but it gets repetitive.

Understood and agreed.

Lock this topic

Isn't it easy to just ignore it?

Of course, but a person wouldn't need to ignore it if it wasn't posted. I can understand wanting to lock a thread that is off topic when it is supposed to be on, but there is a forum specifically for saying the stupidest crap possible.

the only time i ever suggest for a thread to be locked is when a perfectly innocent topic turns into nothing more than a flame war.

also, while i can usually ignore threads that i don't like, i just hate it when the 'most recent posts' section of the homepage is full of flame wars and pointless topics.

it does get annoying. The administrators over at www.planetgamecube.com (the most topic locking happy people ever) even got onto members of the forums about it

This topic is one of those that will appear on almost every large forum after enough time. Sure, people think about mentioning it, but you know why they don't? It's a useless cause. No matter how much you tell people "let the mods decide", etc. they will never ever get it. While I agree with you, this thread will solve nothing.

That being said...

I THREE this stupid thread.

You can't expect to have content in every post, so I don't imagine its worthy to try. If people don't say "Lock it" they'll just say something else.

Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can say Ni at will to old ladies. There is a pestilence upon this land, nothing is sacred. Even those who arrange and design shrubberies are under considerable economic stress in this period in history.
