i have a red 1992 chrysler lebaron convertible. it's a decent car, but i they are kind of like the convertibles for people who can't afford nice ones. i could afford a nicer one, but honestly i don't really want to.
if you've ever seen "run ronnie run", it's the exact same car that terry twillstein drives before him and ronnie become rich and famous. once they get their money, though, he upgrades to a nicer car.

that's kind of neat, but if i had that i'm sure it wouldn't be in my car for very long.

I don't think this thread was meant to be a pissing/dick-length contest. But if you want to make it into one, that Impreza would take my S2000, and my S2000 would easily take a 323i.
Nice Impreza by the way. My buddy has a 2004 WRX wagon and he just added a Cobb Stage 2 setup to it. Very nice indeed.

1991 Eagle Talon TSi - Pretty much stock right now with the exception of a cold air intake.
But soon I plan on adding a turbo-back 3" mandrel bent exhaust, Autometer Boost Gauge, EGT gauge, a manual boost controller, upgrading my fuel system, adding a Supra side-mount intercooler, upgrading my clutch and get some better intercooler piping. After some tuning, I plan to start taking it out to the racetrack to see what she can do. I bet I'll easily be close or over 300hp.
Also, I have two Sony 12" subs I still need to install in it. My cheap ass bought this car for $1,000 last October with only about 113K miles and in pretty good condition.

Ohhhh, I really love the WRXs. I think of them as modern day DSMs. When I pay off my Jeep, I've been thinking of buying me a Rex. But at the same time, I think of the money I'd be paying on it and what I could do to my Talon with that money. I could turn the Talon into a 400hp beast easily!

Well, I don't drag race either. But the Impreza and S2000 will outhandle a 3-series in the corners too.
Looks are always going to be subjective. I like the 3-series, but everybody and their mother has one around my neighborhood, I have gotten tired of them. Still, you can't go wrong with one...
As for more expensive...like I said, that would NEVER be in my criteria for judging a car. That is purely "bling-bling" thinking, and you are fine by me to take the crown in that category.

I can't believe you guys keep leaving out the Talon in those remarks. Name another modern car that has a better bang for its buck. Most 1st generation turbo DSMs can be had for less than $3,000 and are easily 300hp beasts. You guys certainly have the nicer cars according to most people, but to me, DSMs are really really great cars.

I don't think anybody has said anything against the DSMs either. But we weren't really discussing bang-for-buck. They are fine for what they are, straight line drag racers. But I don't think you can possibly argue that a car like the Rex/S2000/Type-R/Miata would spit them out on anything that has a curve. The DSMs are just not meant for such situations.
A modern (as in, still in production) car with a better "bang for the buck" (though not in the same price range) would be the Corvette Z06. $50k gets you a car that is just as fast as a 911 TT, Viper, or Modena.
And I don't really see how your response was meant to be "tongue-in-cheek" BTW. I think the conversation here has been quite civil so far.

I also agree that hooking up a talon is a good speed for the price. However the engines are infamous for their reliability/durability. If i could have spent my money another way, i most likly would have gotten a dsm. As dropping 4k for an engine and install, only pulling low 14. And I still need to drop cash for some body work and mild boost :(

Well, since tongue-in-cheek means not serious. I don't see how it doesn't make sense. I was just messing around with you guys. Wasn't being very serious.
Guys, I know that we weren't discussing bang-for-buck theories. It's just something I threw in. Rather than everyone just post what year and car they have, I figured it would be entertaining to actually talk about cars with some of you.
The DSMs are just not meant for such situations..
While I agree with you that a DSM wasn't made to be a rally car, an all-wheel drive DSM with some suspension mods can easily become a nice rally car. And plus in rally races, the driver plays a much more important role than drag racing. In drag racing, you can compensate poor driving with more grip and horsepower. But in rally, you have to be a great driver to stand a chance.
A modern (as in, still in production) car with a better "bang for the buck" (though not in the same price range) would be the Corvette Z06. $50k gets you a car that is just as fast as a 911 TT, Viper, or Modena.
Yeah, you gotta love the Vettes. Those things are pretty nasty. But a better car (Although, it's not modern according to your definition) is a mid 90s twin-turbo Toyota Supra. I've seen videos of TT Supras walking on Porches, Lambos, Vipers. Those things are highway monsters. I would absolutely love to get one of those.
But the bad thing about them is I've heard they are terrible at getting traction off the line. But once they do, watch out!

There are alot of horror stories out there about the reliability with the 4G63s, but I've had two DSMs and really no problems with them at all. They do get a bit tempermental once you start modding them, though. You have to know what you're doing when you are tuning them.
I really think most of these stories come from kids who throw on these big turbos and other mods without upgrading their fuel systems, and they end up killing the engine.
With any car, especially one that's 13 years old, once you start modding them, things break. And it gets even more tricky modding a turbo-charged car.
But yeah, I couldn't imagine throwing down 4K on an engine and barely cracking 14s. 1Gs run low low 15s stock, so just doing a bit modding and tuning could get you into 14s pretty easy.

Oh, absolutely. If we turn back time a little bit, the Supra is the KING of bang for buck since it can easily handle 600hp on its stock internals. THAT is amazing.

To be honest I have and drive a lot of cars. currently my work car is a 98 Taurus 24valve with 185000 on it and going strong.
Just picked up a 99 Eddie Baurer Exp due to my wife totalling her Contour SVT twice! First time it was $5000 in damage two weeks later (9/29) she pegged the second deer. This one was an 8 point going 80mph.... Yup blew the moonroof out of it. $11,500 in damage. They totalled it and gave me $11,xxx for it.
In the garage is a 1984 Supra and 1985 Supra geting makeovers. These cars are really sweet and there is a pretty good following for such a limited car (1982 - a few months of 1986). They are easily convertable to the 7mgte motor and can get into the 12's with less than $10,000 invested.
For sale 1994 Ranger Splash and in the back behind the garage a 1985 parts supra and a 1989 Turbo soon to be parts supra!

Then my friend you are making a terrible mistake. They are actually very very easily boosted and stomp the third gen supras. The motor (5MGE) is almost setup to get the CT-26 turbo mounted to it. Or the more popular more effective method is to just drop in the 7MGTE motor from the 86.5-92 year and away you go it mounts up no problem.

Thanks for the info, man. But honestly, I'm addicted to DSMs right now. Like the Supras, you just don't see the 1G turbo DSM very much.
To be honest, I'm still learning my fair share of engine work. My DSM is kind of my project. I want to do everything by myself and really learn how to do it as I go along.
I just wouldn't have the same pride in her as I would if I did all my own modding.

Grave,
No its not mine its Don Culbertson's car.
My 85 looks very close but doesnt have his custom hood.
They are very sharp and people either know what it is or act like they have never seen it before.
Its funny to see a total investment of $10k and some time will do when you stomp some of the newer cars. They handle corners really well.
Yeah I know what you mean eventually you will have a grasp and then teaching new people will be the best part. My cousin is into the older eclipses pretty heavily. We always try to get each other to "convert". I like the Supra due to it being a bit larger motor (inline 6) and that its rear wheel drive for an 1984 they have four wheel disc brakes, power locks, windows, moonroofs, cruise, etc. Well equipped for a car of that age. They sold for $16-18k back in 1984.

SWEET. Isn't that the first production turbo car ever made? Or is there a turbo and non-turbo version of the 2002?
The turbo would be the 2002tii, which he probably woulda dropped if he had...you're right though, I believe it is the first mass-produced turbo coupe.
I'd love to see pics of the restored 2002 - awesome freakin' cars.

Its not really the age, its how they are taken care of. I live in a pretty good area for the hobby, I have 3 good friends, one owns a talon, another a 93 eclipse, another a 96. And all have various problems. Im not ragging the DSMS, like I said if I could do everything over I would get one, even with decreased reliability, the value is still really good for a cheap ass driver.

I drive a 2003 bmw 325i and I know for a FACT that bmw stopped production of the 323i 2dr and 4dr in 2000.
Also that s2000 is worth more then your *ahem* 4+ year old car.
s2000's are awesomeand are generally more expensive then a 325i and always more expensive then a 323i.
EDIT: BTW the s2000 outperforms the z4 and looks damn good.
If I could have 2 cars I'd have that one sitting right beside my bimmer.

Yeah, I probably should have worded that better. I was just assuming that most 10+ year-old cars will be in need of some maintenance. But if you find one from someone who's been taking good care of it, you won't need to worry as much.
Probably the biggest things you have to worry about is crankwalk on the 2G DSMs. That can be a nasty, nasty thing. Thank God for the six-bolt 1Gs! :D Also, you better get those timing belts changed religiously. Those two things are probably the biggest DSM killers out there.

Yeah, you paid more than 32k for a car. YOU ARE SO SMART!!
If you paid that much for a car, it means one of three things...
1. You have a good paying job and can afford it.
2. You're a spoiled brat
3. You're a dumbass paying most of thier paycheck out in car payments and insurance.
Considering the tone and structure of your posts, I'm leaning more towards 2 or 3.

Ok, dick...I've let it all slide thus far with your smugness thinking how freakin' great your car is, but there's absolutely no reason for you to be trashing anyone's car. If you think your BMW's so great. Fine.
Leave my TSX alone. It's one hell of a fine car with more options than a BMW at the same price point.
I don't see why you need to be going around telling everyone how great you have it. Be happy with what you have cause we don't really give a shit that you're going to "pick up your girl in your BMW".

I ducked at the last second. He took off the entire roof and sent it 30 feet down the road, clipping the driver's seat along the way. His trailer snapped in half after hitting me. All I got was a scratch on my forehead when the windshield fell on me, but it didn't even need stiches. It was a miracle.

Yeah, I drive a 2000 Chevy Prizm. It's the exact same as a Toyota Corolla, but retails for considerably less. GM and Toyota built a joint plant in California, and they build the same cars on the same line until the decals/seating/steering wheel comes into play. Everything under the hood says Toyota on it. The only other difference is the radio, which is an AC Delco in the Chevys. Great reliable car for the money... and for crowded Cincinnati streets.

My day to day crappy lil' to & from car is a '92 Mustang. I don't have any pics of it at the moment but here's one from my good buddy Internet:

Ain't so bad...she's a 1969 Mercury Cougar. Actually you can see a bit of the Mustang in the lower right corner of the one pic.

A old rusting, not completely rusted out, just starting to rust 1989 chevy pickup. Remarkably, the thing's only broken down twice, and still runs pretty well. I'll drive her to the day she dies, though considering all the fast food I eat and lack of exercise, I may go before it does.

A blue and silver 150cc 4 stroke scooter. It's a Chinese model that goes by a lot of names. The one I have has "Eagle" on the side. It gets 80-110 mpg.
