The guy that spent 30 years building Bumblebee!
http://www.r50rd.co.uk/research/internal/v2i/engin/images/photos/photo_2.jpg

Project explanation (http://www.r50rd.co.uk/research/internal/v2i/engin/)

He intends that sucker to manage traffic (imagine a giant yellow robot as a traffic cop?) or rescue people from car wrecks (coolest jaws-of-life EVER). This guy would be my hero, if he made it out of a Ferrari or something. Sideswipe > Bumblebee!

The link isn't working, and neither is the picture. Is the site down?

The host probably doesn't allow remote image linking.

That, and the site is farked because it was featured on FARK.com (http://www.fark.com)

23k hits in a few hours will give just about anyone's webserver a really bad day.

Does that^ show up for everyone? If so, what did you do to make it show up?

Oh, and be sure to watch the vids on that site too, Terminators aren't so far away...

Actually, they are. Our Transformers were taken from the Japanese Microman.

I have Soundwave, and inside his "battery compartment" it's copyright 1974.

Check it out:

ahh, i knew they a good bit came from microman, still that would mean that he would have had to start building it the year it came out in japan. I guess when I can see/read the story. I will learn the truth. :)

You do realize that I threw in the Bumblebee line for color, right? Considering that Bumblebee was a VW Bug, and this robot is made from a Mini Cooper.

Have you seen the video this guy made?

Low-res (http://home.comcast.net/~themichaelsmith/VWMPG.mpg)
High-res (http://home.comcast.net/~themichaelsmith/VWHiRes.mpg)

Here is a link to his webiste:

Yeah, thats a great vid. Who knows, maybe someday transformers could be a reality? It seems like an efficient way for a bipedal robot to get around quickly, especially if it can transform into a helicopter or something.

The coolest thing about what the guy did in the Farker link is that it's REAL. Watch the tracking videos, it's like you're watching a movie, and they cut to a first-person in the robot. Wow.

I don't know I think the thing is fake. I saw the video and they also look kinda fake.

Nope. That Fark link was fake. The registration of the website that got slashdoted and farked was traced back to one of the advertising companies on the mini-cooper account. From what I had read about it, it was planned to start out as viral marketing (people emailing and posting links to it, saying look how cool this is), and then gradually work it's way into the print and television media.

Hole. Le. Shit. The videos on that site (the first site) look almost computer generated. Did anybody else watch these?!

Which one is fake? The first one? Cuz the second one is definitly fake.

ok cool, I had a really strong feeling that the video's where fake. The videos have parts that are too shinny. Suff in real life are very rarely that shinny.
