What don't you like about wireless? Just curious, not attacking your post or anything. I like the wireless controllers myself, have them for all 3 current systems. But I guess if you didn't like/need wireless maybe you wouldn't want to pay the extra $$ for it.

The rumor is that they are rechargable. They will have cords which you can plug in to recharge them and still play while they're charging. Likely this will be under the "flip port." We shall see. Makes the wireless a bit better.

Oh man is that webcam gonna be trouble.
Why do they feel the need to make it like the PS2s failed vertical capacity? I understand the need to appeal to the people looking for the PC tower but its pointless in a console fitting into an entertainment center. Headset will still be cheap ass plastic and break as soon as you put it on no doubt.

Yeah, that camera is going to be baaaaad news on live. I like the Penny Arcade comic on the Xbox 360's anticipated use of the web cam. All the pictures were of the dudes balls. I have a feeling we may be seeing more than just people's nether regions unless that shit gets moderated big time.

I like small non-tower designs that aren't all white. Anything but all white. I hope they have a different color scheme set for this.

And for those bitching about the colors, rumor is that there will be different colors you can put onto the system. I kind of lament getting rid of the black and green motif, personally.

Agreed. I really like the design of the Xbox in green and black. It could just be the resolution of these pics and just like the PSP, this machine will look a lot better in person. I think this one looks kind of ugly though.

I like it. Ive gotten used to the XBox design, but this still looks nice and sleek. And keep in mind that there's a strong rumor of changable faceplates. I'm not sure how itll work, but it sounds like youll have some control over color. If all else falls, spray paint it yourself or go colorwarepc.
BTW, I thought the first picture of the controller looked cheap and plasticy, but evil's pic looks pretty rad. And one would think that MS would try to avoid Apple comparisons in terms of their color choices.

What makes you think the PS2's vertical stand is failed? Try not to be so geocentric. In many regions including the major market of Japan the space available in the home or room for equipment is much less than typical Americans are used to having. Being able to stand the console up next to a small TV is quite appreciated for those in tiny living spaces. These same people were also quite happy to have their DVDs played on the console as well for the space it saved.
Providing a similar accommodation on the Xbox 360 is an important part of winning over the Japanese market by acknowledging their needs. The sheer bulk of the Xbox wasn't a problem for most US gamers, despite all of the whining for whining's sake, but plenty of consumers elsewhere in worle had to consider, "Nice, but where would I squeeze that in?"

I have a Halo Edition Xbox... and based on pictures (I'd want to see it for real before I decide) I like my clear green Xbox more than this thing. It's very... appliancy. It's... vanilla and a bit bland.
BTW, I think the "power button" plates are actually going to be for the entire system. That'd make it more visually appealling... but since when does Microsoft = Nokia?
The best console design thus far IMHO is the 'Cube... small portable, easily crammable in the smallest of spaces. The PSTwo is also a sexy lil' beast. Xbox 360... meh.

You really don't want DVR functions in a console unless you like having it unavailable for games when it's recording a show. Producing a device that can do both at the same time requires the inclusion of separate processing elements that would drive up the cost considerably, resulting in a package hardly less expensive than buying them separately.
Microsoft already has the Windows Media Center systems sold by numerous vendors. What the Xbox 360 is going to offer, either pre-installed on the hard drive or as an add-on, is a newer version of the Media Extender available on the current Xbox. Say you have a Media Center PC connected to your main home theater system with a big HD screen and the Xbox 360 connected to a smaller HD screen in your room. You've recorded an HD movie from HBO on the Media Center but want to watch it in your room. The Xbox 360 can reach over the household network and have it piped over. If the network isn't fast enough for real-time display over the network the Xbox hard drive can serve as a pre-loaded buffer. Tell it what recording you want to watch and go assemble your snacks or whatever. By the time you're ready enough of the movie is residing locally for the network to keep up with transferring the rest. This can also be applied to video on demand situations.
Once 802.11n is ratified it should be easy to stream an HD video stream in real-time over a wireless network. If I was moving into a new place and had the chance to run cables I'd put in Cat 6 everywhere for a Gigabit Ethernet backbone. It's getting remarkably cheap to do this now. Fiber would be tempting but it takes a lot more skill than I have to do it right. Copper I can handle on my own.

If there's only four channels how do LAN parties work without the signals interfering? Does each Xbox have a different set of signals or something? Or does it recognize that there's an Xbox nearby and adjust its signals accordingly?

One thing I do love is how everyone talks about it being a copy of Apple. Like Apple has a monopoly on the white box. Anybody does anything that looks like a white box and it's ripping off Apple.
One thing is that in scale to the controllers it looks big. Now, either the controllers have shrunk again, or the thing is as tall or taller than the original xbox, which would be a huge mistake on Microsofts part.

I'm probably one of the few people that really like how the system looks. My favorite console color is white so this is fantastic. Dreamcast was my favorite system and if anyone noticed the controller (which I love) resembles the controller of the Dreamcast (which I love as well.) So this is all good.... I just hope it's not too pricey.... $350.00 would be a fair price IMO.

The angle of the photo, supposedly produced on a cellphone camera, creates a forced perspective. The thing to look at is the drive tray. That is the one item in the picture that must conform to a fixed set of dimensions to work with DVDs. This machine is much closer the original PS2's size than the Xbox.

That power came at a cost. The Xbox is also the expensive console to produce by a large margin and cut off from the normal procedures used to reduce that. Sony can eaily drop the price of the PS2 to $99 and possibly will during E3. For Microsoft to do the same with the Xbox would mean taking a nearly 100% hit on the hardware cost and not seeing any profit on the machine until the owner buys close to a dozen games.
The Xbox 360 is designed to require less subsidizing at launch and to scale down. gracefully over its lifecycle. The sooner Microsoft can retire the original Xbox the better their chances of competing effectively with Sony.

Actually a site, possibly IGN, already did a comparison using the DVD drive as a reference and it comes out to be just slightly smaller than the original Xbox.
EDIT: Which seems to be about the same size as the original PS2 - d'oh!
