that is so photoshopped, but I guess it is possible. Where do you get one of those umd's again?

It's not photoshopped, it is a real emulator that only runs on an unupdated PSP running firmware version 1.0.

It's real. Here's where it originated from.

But like Quackzilla said, you have to have 1.0 firmware. If you do, you can download the emu from the link.

Hopefully, they'll enlarge the screen size.

how does the firmware get updated? can you prevent it?

The U.S. systems were shipped with the updated firmware. The only way to currently get this is to us a non-updated Japanese system.

Yes, you can prevent firmware upgrading. All you have to do is not connect to the internet with your PSP and download.

Yeah, that sig almost came out of nowhere.

I hope they'll eventually get this to work on US PSP someday.

Just remember, Sony will do everything they can to force firmware updates for this very reason. Don't be surprised if games soon refuse to run if the firmware version number is below a specified minimum.

Dude, why do you even say that? You know it's a lie.

Please elaborate as to why Sony wouldn't take such an easy measure to prevent unauthorized apps from running? The console industry has a long history of revising their product to seal security holes allowing unauthorized software from running. Sega and Nintendo had a running battle to keep EA's carts from running before EA finally decided to accept the Nintendo business model. This included upgrades to their lockout systems as well as litigation.

Because not everyone has WiFi internet access, and something assinine like that would prevent those people from playing PSP.

Try to think a little more. The firmware update would be included with the game and offered if the existing firmware doesn't pass the version check. This sort of thing has been done on PC games since the 80's and became especially common as DirectX became standard to check the version on that and offer the update as needed.

Anything and everything that epobirs has mentioned is true.

Indeed, Epo is right. They can't do anything about the Wipeout hack but that's not allowing any serious issue to get through the system, emmulators though are a serious no-no and they WILL make every attempt to stop them where they can.

I like how some of the posters under that article don't seem to understand why sony would do such a thing.

newer xbox games that have XBL on them updated the xbox dashboard with out asking. Trust me, they can force you to upgrade.
