Alternative to Carfax.com?

So I'm looking to buy a friend of a friend's Honda S2000. The current owner is rolling in dough so I know he took decent care of the car but I want to make sure the title is clean. Carfax has raised their one time fee from $15 to $20 and I think that is too much to pay. Can anyone recommend a lower cost alternative to Carfax.com?

try calling your dealership. I work for a gmc/mazda dealer if you call them with the win they can tell you everything about the car including history in most cases.

You can always check Kelly's Blue Book (http://www.kbb.com/) and see what the going private sale price is.
