Will the DVD remotes for the Fat PS2 work with the new Slim? I can get a cheapy used dvd remote from EB, but it comes with the receiver. Could I just use the remote without the external receiver?

No, the remote that doesn't need a reciever is slightly different from that one. You will have to use that receiver and remote, though you can place it in the second slot if you like so you don't need to keep plugging a controller in when you want to play a game.

So, the remotes for the fatty will work with the slim if I use the receiver that came with the remote?

Also, what are some of the recommended cheap remotes that work with the built in receiver?

Yes; the one that includes a seperate IR reciever is the original remote. It will work, but you're better off finding one of the newer models that uses the built-in IRs on the late-model fats and the slim. You can easily distinguish the two by looking in the top-right corner of each remote. The newer remote has a green Power button at the top-right, and also an Eject button in the top-left. To my knowledge though, you can't use the eject button with the slim.

That would be correct. The power button is freakin' great though and worth the extra cash.
