I just watched it at 11:30 EST

I thought it was VERY kick ass! I remember seeing the dvd at walmart a couple of months ago, and thought it looked kinda cool, but passed because I'm not really that big into anime anymore.

(I was back in the mid to late 90's) I don't really care for the anime tv shows EXCEPT cowboy bebop! (I'm more into the movies, fist of the north star, VHD , Akira,etc..)

But that's the reason I think I like Samurai Champloo is because it's done by the same person(correct me if I am wrong) , and I LOVE old kung fu/samurai movies.. But for the 1st episode. It's gets a big thumbs up!

we will see how the rest goes..

already owning the DVDs, I watched to see the edits, which were suprisingly few.

Yeah they didn't edit too much and this was actually the first time I watched it with the English dub...well done they got two of my fave voice actors in the lead roles.

Suprisingly good show. The only edit I noticed was the shit being replaced with a disc scratching

I've heard of Samurai Champloo, but I've never watched an episode. I'll be watching the episode on Cartoon Network in a few minutes.

Except for the intensely annoying opening theme song, it was pretty good.

I liked the opening theme, as it compliments the show nicely.

Besides the awkward match of hip hop and samurai (jazz and bounty hunters flowed much better and I can't help but compare) this show is pretty hot. Picked up season 1 with the box a few days ago-- looks like i'm in for the long haul.

the baseball episode is the greatest episode in anime history.

That was actually more fitting than the actual word IMO.

The intro theme is GREAT. It sets the mood for the show perfectly.

I'm somewhat surprised to hear that the dubbing isn't all that bad. But this is from the makers of Cowboy Bebop and they didn't really butched up the dubbing for that really.

A bunch of people in my homeroom loves this anime.. but of course these people just loves "violent animes"; cares only for action and blood killing.

I was pretty impressed with this, too, from the episode show last night. The action was very nice, and it looks like they're going again with a similar trio dynamic from Bebop.

If it ends up like Bebop, they probably excessed action on the first episode to draw people in, and it'll calmer for the most part. Still, I liked it, the show oozes hip style. Even those adult swim interstitials with their beats seem like they could fit perfectly naturally in the show.

I loved it. It's not as good as FMA or Bleach IMO, but it's still amazingly done. For some reason, I love Steve Blum, but I really don't see him as Mugen. I guess I'm predisposed due to seeing the Japanese subbed version, but I feel like Blum doesn't really have the right kind of energy Mugen would have.

I dont like mugens voice in the dub, it need to be more raspy sounding cuz that gave him more of an edge in the jpn version

Is mugen played by the same guy who played Spike? Sounds like a young Solid Snake or something, heh

Yeah. Steve Blum did Spike's voice and now he's doing Mugen's voice. He has an awesome voice, but I just can't see it as Mugen.

Jin, on the other hand, is done by the guy who did Saitou in Rurouni Kenshin, and I think he definitely fits perfectly.

BLum is perfect in the role IMO. Just gotta remember not to look for Big O. ;)

Isn't the guy who now does Jin the same guy that did Vicious in Cowboy Bebop?

I'm really enjoying it thus far, and now I need a good deal on the DVDs.

I have 2 DVDs, so I can say this, it stays with a lot of action, little story. Though it does feature naked Fuu (that episode will be cut/heavily edited), and a gay Dutchman.

Nope...Vicious's voice actor hasn't done a whole lot of actual stuff. I find it actually kind of weird now that he hasn't done a whole lot of stuff.

Yeah. He does so many voices. Must be a great job.

He's done even more then what was mentioned so far. He did the voice of Kou in The bouncer and he did the dub of Char in the Gundam movie trilogy. He was awesome as Char.

When does it come on again? It should rerun tonight right? And Steve Blum does the Radio 7-11 commercials too.

It's on again Thursday probably...I dunno how they are gonna work the lineup now that they are doing movies, but my guess is it'll be on Thursday at like 12 or 2.

And Steve Blum does everything, Jin is Ron Allen (aka Kirk Thorton or whatever, lord knows why voice actors just can't use one name). He does alot of work too, just not so many lead roles...did an awesome job as Brandon Heat on Gungrave though. Often time you'll also notice the random voice as some small character in anime or video game, voice actors just work in a circle like that.

Actually now that they are showing movies is what threw everything around, same thing happened with toonami awhile back. But it's got a two hour extension on Adult Swim everynight now apparently so can't complain too much I guess.

FMA is gonna be the the first 26 episodes again. The new epiodes won't air, most likely, until September.

And as for why voice actors have multiple names, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it's so they can sign onto multiple studios to do more voice acting. So they'll work under one name for one company, and then work under another name for a different company. Because of this, they won't be sued by the first company.

It wasn't that, it was just too boring. I gave it too many shots and it kept boring me until I got fed up.

I freaking LOVE Big O. I don't care if it is off the air now thought becauseI have the complete set on DVD. 8-)

I like Millie and Wolfwood in Trigun and thats about it. Vash annoys me with his idealism.

I don't see how he pisses people off, but he's one of my favorite characters. He's got morals where others don't and he's got damn good reasons for them, too.

And bog robots are overrated, I guess they're just boring like they are in Big O and Gundam Seed.

Its just the fact that he always thought there was a way to save everyone and he would just break down when he couldn't. Like I said before, its probably just that I have seen so much Star Trek (Vulcan's and their logic) that it bothers me. I always think, "WWSD?" (What would Spock do?)

Duo_Maxwell
05-15-2005, 05:43 PM
Trigun's okay but I never enjoyed Vash's idealism either. The whole series is Vash trying to be human and decent at the same time. He claims there always another way, etc. but many of the things he does to put down bad guys and escape difficult situations involves thing normal humans could never do, so for humanity the same options aren't there. Then again, I'm reading way too much into it probably. I'm not a mecha anime only guy or anything (despite the indications of the name, avatar and sig), but I think Big O and to a larger extent most of the Gundam series have excellent character and story development, something I enjoy alot in all TV and movies, not just anime. They move slowly on occasion, but then again so does Trigun.

Actually the reason is because of union conflicts. Once you are forced to join the union, you are no longer able to do non-union work. Thus, if you have multiple names you can work under both union and non union projects. The reaosn I know this is I'm an actor myself so I've had conflicts over the years.

Apparently true. Blum is also slated as a VA for Naruto though it's unknown what role he'll play so far.

Yeah just look at his imdb filmography. I think he's had like 80 or 90 projects just since 2000, that's a lot for less then 5 years.
