Half-Life 2: What the hell do I do here?

I'm on the Follow Freeman chapter and I'm stuck at this part. Everything I've read tells me to wait for the strider to blow a hole somewhere. That doesn't happen.

What am I supposed to do?

That wall you're looking at straight ahead to the left...a strider circles & destroys that as his second shot I believe? I think you have to run down there to trigger it (which is a somewhat pain in the ass due to the combine respawning)

Yeah, that's what I did and nothing happened. I ended up restarting the chapter and the second time I got to that point, the strider blew the wall right on cue.
