Can I plug an internet connection from a router into another router?

Like this

Modem - Router - Router - PC or game console

Is that possible?

I don't know for sure, but I doubt you can assign an IP to an assigned IP, so I'm gunna say no.

You can definately chain routers....I've done it with a couple of different combinations (two normal routers, one dsl router + one normal, a normal router + wireless, etc) and it works fine. Each brand will have different nuances to work out, but it is totally doable.

and you'd want to do this because....

Edit...didn't mean to sound like a jerk. just wondering WHY you'd be linking two routers together.

I'm sure it's possible, but you'd be creating a network inside of a network. Routers provide their own IP address.

Since you sound like you only have a pc and a console, why an extra router? Most routers have 4 ports available.

If you need more reach, longer cables, or a wirless bridge would do the trick.

if you need more ports...possibly a switch would do it.

Daisy chainning routers is very possible, but it's a lot of work. I've never done it before, but I read that you can enable DHCP on your first router (the outside router, connected to your broadband) and disable DHCP on your 2nd router (the inside router). You connect the 2nd router to the uplink port of the outside router, and then your guess would be as good as my guess from that point onward.

Here is a link (http://www.ezlan.net/router_AP.html) for you to perhaps read up to see if it's worth your time.
