Speaker trouble.

I have 2.1 Yamaha speakers.

The problem is that the right speaker is only about 1/3 as loud as the left, and I can't hear it well if at all.

All of the volume controls I can find only control both speakers at once.


It's really irritating, can it be fixed without spending money?

Standard Windows volume control panel should have balance sliders above the actual volume sliders. Make sure they are all in the middle.

Barring that, try different sound formats to see if they all give the same effect (MIDI, WAV, CD audio). If you still hear the problem, then you have a couple of options.

-Check the speakers on another machine to confirm it's the speakers. If another computer gives the same problem, time for new speakers.

-If they work on another machine, it could be a sound card problem. (unlikely) Try updating drivers or even reseating the sound card. And if that doesn't work, might be time for a new sound card.
