News - Tetsuya Nomura divulges new information on Kingdom Hearts II
Posted by Ash Paulsen at 07:38:55 AM EST on 11.28.2005.
In a late-breaking interview with Japanese publication Dengeki, Kingdom Hearts series director Tetsuya Nomura let slip many new and expanded details regarding his upcoming behemoth of a sequel, Kingdom Hearts II.
Nomura first tells about the reaction he got from his boss upon showing him the latest, nearly-complete build of the game. His boss' response? "There's four games' worth in there." (Wow.)
He then mentions that the most recently-revealed new world, the Tron world, is the last "surprise world" we'll see (and there sure have been a lot of them). The world is called the "World of Space Paranoids," and Nomura tells us that the world will remind us of an old computer game. The idea for the world came into his head when he met with a Disney official who was making a Tron game on his PC. The different material he saw in that game turned him on to some new ideas for Kingdom Hearts II... hence the Tron world. Finally, wrapping up all the information on Tron, Nomura confirms that there will be light cycle battles in this world as well.
And now for something different: Nomura has dropped a surprise regarding Atlantica, the world from The Little Mermaid. This time around, Atlantica will not be a "normal" area and will not feature the normal action-oriented exploration and fighting that characterizes the series' gameplay. Instead, the entire world will be laid out as a musical, and the gameplay will be based around timing. Apparently it's a more "interactive" world, "where if you do well on a mission, you'll see a fitting musical scene, but if not, you won't."
There will not be any normal battles in Atlantica, but instead the fighting will take place in the context of the musical/rhythm gameplay structure for the world, and success in battle will be contingent on how well you can time your button presses. Exploration in Atlantica, too, will be tied to the music-based gameplay and will not be free-form as in the first game.
Timeless River, the old-school Steamboat Willie world, will be a "normal" world gameplay-wise and feature the usual battle system. (Nomura has said in a past interview to expect some important plot developments to take place in this world, as well.)
There are also new details on Pride Land, the much-anticipated world lifted right out of beloved Disney classic The Lion King. Nomura explains that, because there were not any humans in the film, he felt it necessary to change Sora, Donald and Goofy into animals themselves (or in the case of the latter two, make them less humanoid). When asked if the 13th Order (the group made up of the ominous individuals in the black robes and hoods, around whom much of the game's mysterious plot revolves) will appear in Pride Land, Nomura replied "probably not."
Having been changed into (more) animalistic forms in Pride Land, Donald will hold his staff with his claws while Goofy will attack much in the same way he did back in Atlantica in the first game. Sora, as has already been revealed, will take the form of a lion cub and will use his mouth to carry and attack with the Keyblade. Rather obviously, because of his changed, non-human form, Sora will not be any to go into any of his Drive modes in Pride Land. Finally, Nomura mentions that he actually wanted to include this world in the original game, but did not have the "programs" to do so at that time.
In new Drive news, Sora's newly-unveiled, yellow-hued Master Form is a combination of his previously-revealed Valor (red) and Wisdom (blue) Forms, and as such will feature both enhanced physical and magical capabilities, as well as the ability to fly. Master Form, however, will (rather obviously) deplete the Drive Gauge faster than the lower-powered Forms. However, Master Form isn't the pinnacle of Sora's newly-expanded powers: there are still a few more Drive Forms left to be revealed, and Nomura says that these will include ones that are more powerful than even Master Form.
Seifer, Raijin, and Fuujin from Final Fantasy VIII, as well as Vivi from Final Fantasy IX, have all been changed into kids for their appearances in Kingdom Hearts II, but their actual roles and goals remain largely the same as they were in their games of origin. (Well, Vivi was already a kid, but hey.)
In an interesting bit of trivia, Nomura reveals that it was his staff who goaded him into including Vivi in Kingdom Hearts II, because of popular fan request. Nomura was reluctant at first because Vivi was not his own character (astute readers will know Yoshitaka Amano was the character designer for Final Fantasy IX), but in the end his staff prevailed and Vivi made it onto the cast list. However, Vivi will not stand out in the story as much, though he does have his own individual aspirations, like Seifer.
Things have changed in Hollow Bastion this time around: in the sequel, the plot's focus in this world will be on the rebuilding of the town after the first chapter's calamitous events. Heading up the reconstruction effort are Leon (better known as FF VIII's Squall) and Cid, who were both relatively important figures in the first game (Leon especially). Nomura also comments that, seeing as Hollow Bastion's main characters are or will be all of FF origin, we can expect to see more familiar faces as the game nears release and more information is divulged, or in the game itself.
In regards to the number of new Final Fantasy characters to be introduced in Kingdom Hearts II, Nomura originally had settled on five, but since then the game has turned out to include more than that. (For reference, so far we know the new FF faces will we be seeing include Seifer, Fuujin, and Raijin (FF VIII), Vivi (FF IX), Auron (Final Fantasy X), and Yuna and Rikku (Final Fantasy X-2 style, very happily).
Hollow Bastion will be to Kingdom Hearts II what Traverse Town was to the original Kingdom Hearts; that is, the protagonists' home base and the game's "central hub," as it were.
Finally, when asked if all the worlds had been revealed, Nomura replied "more or less." Elaborating, Nomura stated that while there are no more "surprise worlds" yet to be revealed, Twilight Town and the world from the secret movies (that is, the dark, futuristic-looking city seen in both the secret movie scene at the end of the original KH and the "Deep Dive" trailer included in Japan's updated re-release of the original game, Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix) have not been revealed in-depth yet. Though these worlds have been briefly seen in clips during trailers for Kingdom Hearts II, a lot of mystery concerning the plot still surrounds these worlds, and Nomura urges us to look forward to more coverage of these worlds as the game nears release in Japan.
Whew... that about covers it all. Kingdom Hearts II is slated for release in Japan on December 22. Regrettably, it won't be reaching North America until three months later, sometime in March. GAF will definitely keep you updated on any more hot KH II news as it comes in, though.
------------------------------------------------------
Ok I'm in the process of going through the Japanese website.
Heres what I've got so far.
http://www.square-enix.co.jp/kingdom2/
Once the page loads you have a bar of options on the left.
Note: After any choice the only button on the left is the back button.
The first choice is the story leading up to the game. A video of cutscenes from KH1 plays in the BG which is why it takes so long to load.
The second option is the characters from the game. Each one you click on provides a biography of the character and plays an animation of its character model in the background. Check out Jack Sparrow, pretty sweet.
The third option lists the worlds from the game. It tells the story behind the world. I'm not sure what the second tab is, but it gives more information about something. The Orange button on the top right turns off the text so you can look at screens from the various worlds, sometimes you have to click it twice. Check out the Timeless River (Steamboat Willie), you can see Donald and Goofy's classic look. Sora gets the treatment as well.
The forth option shows some pictures of Twilight Town. However, it has the words "coming soon" overlaid so... its coming soon :)
Option 5 gives you a wallpaper download, available in different sizes.
The sixth option is "? ? ?" and cannot be clicked on.
The final, 7th option is the most interesting so it gets its own sub-section, I will be moving one step LEFT at a time for the various items-
The first item on the list displays the Trinity Master, a collection of all three of the KH games. I'm guessing this will be sold in Japan only, but if it comes to the USA I'd prolly pick it up. It includes Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, and Kingdom Hearts 2.
The second item appears to be either a KH calendar (the pictures for the months laid out) or just various pieces of artwork. I'm gonna say its a calendar.
The third item is a video trailer for KH2, specifically, the promo trailer for 2005. It contains some new footage that hasn't been in the other trailers. I HIGHLY suggest you check it out.
The fourth is disappointing, I thought it was going to be an MP3 of the new theme song, but its just an ad to buy Utada's CD.
The fifth is another trailer with some nice footage of the Blonde Haired Kid and two of the 13th Order holding some wicked looking key blades. Specifically, this is the Tokyo Game Show 2005 trailer. Another highly reccomended trailer for you to watch.
The sixth is the release date and price of KH2 (in Japan).
Finally, the seventh is the Jump Fiesta 2005 trailer. More footage of BHK and some AWESOME footage of the drive transformations (especially Valor).
Ok thats it for now.

I read on IGN that Jack Sparrow (from Pirates of the Caribbean) is confirmed to be in the game!
No word on if it will be Johnny Depp's likeness or if they will actually visit the Pirate world (I'd assume so tho....) yet.

Sweet... Jack Sparrow for the win! Great idea for the sequel since reusing Neverland for pirates would have been lame. Its also cool to know that Disney is using non-animated films in the game. Maybe some other Disney-produced movies will make it in!!!
As you said MORE NEWS NEEDED!!!

The first game was clearly way too hard for little kids, so I'd appreciate it if the developers would remove all the lame cutesiness (e.g. Gummi Ship, Donald and Goofy acting so annoying, etc) from the sequel. Don't see that happening though :(

They used up nearly every major Disney character in the first one, whats left? Or are they going to rehash the same characters with a different story?
I thoroughly enjoyed the first one (in my top 10 favorite games ever) I hope they make it a bit more non- linear though.

This game cannot be released here soon enough (allowing for a good translation, though, we have to wait...). I loved the first Kingdom Hearts and Chain of Memories was an excellent "bridge" game between the two (even though I hated the card system, I just hate card battles in general.)
I shall consider this PREORDER'D! Here's to hoping Square-Enix provides something nifty for our troubles.

WHOLLY CRAP!
I just saw the trailer and the game looks *OFF THE HOOK*. The combat looks a lot more intense, and I'm really interested in the story just from the cutscene previews.
I may just have to buy this on launch date. :-D
And I can't believe they're using Utada Hikaru's "Passion" as the game's main theme. SUCH A GREAT CHOICE!!!
I *pray* they keep the song in the original Japanese format instead of doing an English version. Or at the very least, have it as an option for the purists.

After seeing some of the new gameplay footage, it looks to be a little more involved. I liked it in the first game just because you could make some.... interesting designs if you know what I mean. (Nothing better than piloting a space penis.)

New Info on the Gummi Ship.
Gummi Ship scans:
-The World movement is the same as last time, seperated by courses where you must navigate the Gummi Ship.
-Like in Final Mix, there are special missions and whatnot with some cool rewards depending upon how well you do.
-Like last time you can alter your Gummi Ship with parts you collect, but even more so than last time
Doh. I'll wait til $20 then probably, if I get it at all. Why why why have this in the game?

Not integral? It was in the first game... you had to use it every time you went somewhere new. But even that wasn't horrible. The worst part was finding secrets and figuring out how to get the hard-to-reach treasure chests and then just finding lame gummi pieces instead of treasure worth having.

I've been playing the game for about a week now and I'm happy to say:
the gummi ship sections are GREAT now!
Seriously, it feels just like a bastardised Panzer Dragoon shooter! Really fast paced and fun. And every stage is different with many different enemies and such.

Just to sum up the important stuff:
Confirmed Worlds:
Twilight Town
Hollow Bastion (Final Fantasy World)
Lion King
Nightmare Before Christmas (expanded to include Christmastown)
Aladdin
Beauty and the Beast
Mulan
Hercules (expanded to include the Underworld)
Little Mermaid (now a musical level)
Pirates of the Caribbean
Steam Boat Willy
Winnie the Pooh
Disney Castle (as seen in cutscene in KH)
Tron
Deep Dive City
Confirmed Summons:
Stitch
Chicken Little
Peter Pan
Other Disney Story Tie-ins:
101 Dalmations are confirmed to be back
Sorcerer from Fantasia plays role in storyline
Witches from Sleeping Beauty play role in storyline
Pete (fat guy from Goof Troop) is a chief adversary
Mini-games added:
Tron bike-thingy
New Winnie the Pooh minigame
Revamped Gummi Ship
I can honestly say that the only two things that I'm disappointed with is the exclusion of Tarzan's world and Neverland. Monstro and Alice in Wonderland both sucked.

7.6 from IGN. WTF? http://ps2.ign.com/articles/698/698697p1.html
They have the same complaints others have had, namely Gamespot. That the game is VERY easy.... this is also disheatening:
For instance, I managed to make it completely through the game without using offensive magic ONCE.
. In KHII, you can literally pound the mini-bosses and main enemies into submission by hitting X over and over again. (It basacially says there is no reason whatsoever to dodge)
What's worse, you don't need to fear taking damage, because for the most part any destroyed enemies will drop enough health orbs to heal Sora back to full life
Unfortunately, the enemy difficulty level doesn't ramp up to meet Sora's ability, so after a while combat is simply reduced to a level grind.
Here is my favorite:
For instance, I placed the controller on my desk, lightly pressed X and had a conversation with a co-worker. Three minutes later, I'd cleared all of the opponents in a room and leveled up, without actively controlling the game. What's more, because the ability to button mash is so prevalent, boss fights take a fraction of the time. I timed every major fight that I had in this title, and most came out under the five-minute mark, including the final boss
More favorites:
One other hiccup with the worlds is that they feel incredibly small. Other worlds that you've already adventured in from the original are compressed even smaller, with Halloween Town and Atlantica as shadows of their former self.
Apparently the game also only has one secret boss, compared to the first games 3 or 4 that I can remember.
To anyone thats played the Japanese version, or might be far enough into the US version, is all this stuff true, or is IGN being really harsh? I don't remember the Japanese bashing this game like this, so did Square lower the difficulty for the US?
The thing that gets me is that he put the controller down, didn't even pay attention, and still won a battle.
They say that the difficulty level dosen't make a difference at all, as well.

My impressions after the intro portion of the game...
I'm playing through Proud Mode (Hard) and I died a number of times in the Dusk world leading up to the first boss (only takes 3 hits). The first boss also requires you to use Reaction moves to not get your ass torn up as do any enemies that offer them. Of the 3 enemy types I fought, 2 of them had attacks that once they started you needed to dodge as you couldn't attack until they were done. The 2nd boss fight is a pain as you're weak and he easily can outmanuver and counter. The 3rd fight was easier due to the circumstances of the battle, but the boss can still take chunks out of your health if you leave yourself open. I've only played 3 or so hours of the game so I can't comment on the overall difficulty or any of the feelings the reviewer had, but based on what I've played so far, the game seems like it is more of the same from KH, just highly polished and fixed up a bit...
Also, yes there is only 1 bonus boss fight, unfortunately...

Well... so far, from what I've played, they briefly talk about the events of the GBA version, so its not as necessary as knowing the plot of the entire first game.
You're not going to miss as much if you don't play the GBA version, and besides, just read a plot summary for that, its not worth going through that game.

so just got through the first 6 hours and i didn't want to look at the other KH2 thread because of the possible spoilers so im going to keep this thing spoiler free and if you post your impressions in here plz keep it as spoiler free as possible...
combat has been totally re-done it almost feels like it's been built from the ground up again. the quick time button pressing during baattle (ala god of war, POP two thrones) adds a whole new feel to the game and if done right can make your battles so much easier but if missed can make your battles a lot harder. the camera angles during battles are also redone and if caught in a corner at any time it is easy to swing the right aanalog stick to fix it. also, teaming up with party members for intense attacks and combos is AWESOME and very addicting to try and get a higher combo each time. and the duel wielding of keyblades is just badass, plain and simple.
magic, this time around i actually used it for once because i needed to (or felt it would make the battle easier). in the first game i didn't even bother to use it unless it was actually required to open a door (traverse town) or something.
gummi ship flights are sooooo much better as well. sure, they're not perfect but they have been improved to the point where i actually like playing them (i dreaded having to do them in the first game). it's fun to try and get a better score each time you play through a gummi ship flight. i havn't really tried the customization yet.
the story is piecing together very well and the cutscenes are also long and interesting enough to the point where they don't get boring, which is a major problem with most rpgs in my opinion. i don't want to dive into the story much to avoid spoilers.
i know ive missed some other things that impressed me but i want to go to sleep. i'll probably post a complete review whenever i finish the game.
soooooo what are your guys impressions? spoiler free pleaseee!

The problem with the new added feature of timing the special Triangle hits during battle is that it's always triangle. Whenever you're in a sequence when you know you have to hit triangle at the right time, you can just keep tapping it and you'll hit it right on time.

All I remember is that you are fighting the heartless and they were released by some guy named Absom or something like that. I don't remember why he released them. I also forget what happened to the main characters (the three humans). Can anyone fill me back in?
Ansem is the name you're looking for. To put where they end up at the end of 1 in quick order, Riku goes with King Mickey into the dark realm beyond Kingdom Hearts, Kairi goes back to Destiny Islands, but she loses all memories of Sora, and Sora sorta just goes somewhere. I forget exactly where he goes between the end of 1 and the beginning of CoM, but he went somewhere, looking for King Mickey and Riku.

Riku ends up being a "good guy" again? I just cannot remember the end. I do remember him being in league with the bad guys though.

If I remember correctly, Riku's body is being controlled by Ansem for most of the game, and that's what leads up to the fight against Riku. Though I can't remember how he acts in CoM, where I believe he still fights against you. He's more like an anti-hero in a way.

The problem with the new added feature of timing the special Triangle hits during battle is that it's always triangle. Whenever you're in a sequence when you know you have to hit triangle at the right time, you can just keep tapping it and you'll hit it right on time.
I love the game so far, don't get me wrong. I'm about 6 hours in too and I'll pick it back up tonight.
very true and i noticed it too. im playing in normal mode. i wonder if that changes in hard mode? i was just thinking maybe it is done like that because a lot of younger kids, like 5 - 6 year olds, play kingdom hearts. even so, it still kick ass.

I just beat the level based off of "Hercules", and, for the most part, the game is incredibly good. The only complaint I have is that the "Mulan" level sucked. It's like a frigin' curse; the first Disney-based level of every Kingdom Hearts game is horrendous (Alice in Wonderland in KH1).

Who here has bought it without finishing the first one?
Me! I didnt even finish the first level on the first game. Probobly wont open the 2nd one for a while. Good game, just takes too much time and have a backlog of games.
I havent finished the first one either. I just couldn't stand the combat system for too long in that game. Thankfully, I know pretty much the entire plot from synopsis I've read.
That and reading a plot synopsis for CoM is vital, imho. I was completely lost in the entire first part of the game until I read it, then things made all kinds of sense.

I just finished this game today at 30 hours and I have to say it was pretty dissappointing. I was a huge fan of the original but after waiting 4 years I was definetly expecting something much better. I wasnt a big fan of Chain of Memories either and I think thats where this series started on the slippery slope. While I dont agree with either of IGN or GS scores I would definetly give this game an 8; Its a good game just not what it could have been.

So...what difficulty did you play it on? What difficulty would you recommend?
Did you find the combat as "button mashy" as people are saying?
So...what difficulty did you play it on? What difficulty would you recommend?
Did you find the combat as "button mashy" as people are saying? Yeah the combat is totally button mashy. Now with the inclusion of the reactive commands on triangle, you will find yourself on some boss fights, and even some of the regular fights, taking your right hand off the controller just to be smashing triangle and x simulatenously. There are some really cool boss fights especially the last one so its definetly worth playing through but like I was saying its just wasnt as good as experience as the original (even with its minor flaws). I played it on the normal difficulty and I would say about 70% of the game is pretty easy to moderate. Even towards the end the last few fights are a little bit of a challenge but not on the same level of difficulty that the original was. If you had to make a choice what to play right now I would go for Suikoden V over this game but that is just me and tastes will vary.

I just beat the game.
:applause:
Great game, worth my 27 hours.
Possible spoilers
The ending had much more closure to it than KH1 did, however this one still leaves itself open for a sequel if you consider what baddies, who played a big role in the game, survived. Also, if you watch the secret video at the end of the game (done by completing hard or getting 100% on normal) you'll see more hints a sequel, I think.
Real Spoilers
I really want to go back and start a new game now that I know who is what and what's going on. It'll be nice knowing that Riku is actually the guy that looks like Ansem from the first game, who isn't actually Ansem but Ansem's assistant and all that jazz. It was all really confusing until the very end
i'm playing on 'proud' (i.e. hard) and the difficulty feels about normal. i've died a few times with several bosses but overall it feels about the right level of difficulty, maybe a bit on the easy side. i'd hate to think what playing on normal or easy would have been like.
but i'm loving it. 18 hours in and loving every bit of it. ^_^

Never played the KH before. Would it be a disadvantage if I jump straight into KH 2 instead? I didn't play KH: Chain of Memories on the GBA, the game inbetween 1 and 2 and I was confused for a while.
They do make an attempt to go back and recap what's already happened, but I don't think anyone who didn't play the first one would understand what's going on. .
Beating the first is definetly required. It probably wouldnt hurt to read a plot synopsis of CoM but yeah some knowledge of it wouldnt hurt.

i am about 22 hours into this game, and i love it so far! I am in agrabah (for the 2nd time) as of right now... i'm hoping to get further tonight... i got a couple free hours to devote to it!
edit: i'm gonna change the title of this topic to the official KH 2 thread
beat the game last night at level 72 with ultima and fenrir and all forms (except wisdom) at lvl 7. the game wasn't very hard on proud mode and even the last bosses at the end weren't that difficult. not to say that i didn't die a couple times (twice to demyx and once to xaldin) but once you figured out what to do, it wasn't rough at all. sephiroth was the only crazy challenge and i survived with 11 elixirs, 7 ethers and 20 minutes of trinity/run away/trinity/run away.
that said, the whole final battle sequence (the last hour of the game), not just the final boss but starting from the very last save point in the game onward, was fucking EPIC!! my god, it justified the full 50 bucks I spent to have the game on day one. anyone else agree? the secret ending was weird but i just bought a capture card off of newegg solely to record that last hour because man, moments like that are rare in video games.
anyhoo, just thought I'd rant about how much I loved the ending. great game!! ^_^

I got this the other day and I'm about 5 hours into the game. I've beaten the first two levels and Beast's level, and I'm working on Mulan's level right now. So far I've been pretty disappointed. The combat is really easy and the game has way too many cut scenes (and I'm not even 100% sure what is going on. I played KH1 about 2 years ago and I haven't played CoM). Plus, the part with Roxas was boring.
On the plus side the spaceship parts are better then the first game, but that's not much to brag about.

He only comes during certain boss fights. As far as I know: Cerberus, Thresholder, Dark Thorn, Xaldin, and the 1st Armored Ansem fight. There are probably more though.
As for determining when he appears, it's like this:
1st death - 100% chance of Mickey to the rescue
2nd - 75%
3rd - 68%
4th and on - 50%

Battle with Xaldin-
God, Xaldin really pissed me off, but it was still an awesome battle. His combos were so fricking cheap. I did 3 times; the first was because of a combo he did, the second was because of dumb antiform, the third was because of that dumb snake thing he rides. The 4th time I tried him, I didn't die once (no use of Mickey). Supposedly, that snake beam is unavoidable. I think I might be lucky, but It went right on top of me once.

The FAQ I read was so convoluted that I could barely get the basic characters in order, although it seems like there were a lot of new ones introduced.
CoM story was pretty odd, but I'll try to remember what happened:
Sora Donald & Goofy walk into a tower looking for Riku and the King. While going up the tower they start losing their memories of friends, (like Alladin, Jack etc.) The further they go the more memories they lose, he eventually forgets Riku and Kairi.
A girl named Nanamie (The girl who draws) is drawing the floors of the tower from Sora's memories, from the places he's been in the past, like Agrabah, and such. So he ends up meeting with his old friends again, but they're not real, only visions from his memory.
Also along the way you meet up with members of Orginization XIII and end up defeating, I think 7 or 8 of the members. They never do find Riku or the King, but at the top he finds Nanamie. She tells him in order to regain his lost memories he has to sleep in some bubble for a while. So he sleeps, but when he wakes up he seems to have forgotten about the tower and Nanamie. Nanamie is good and is only helping the Orginization cause they're using her. They also meet Dizz, I forgot what he said, to them, but I remember him helping Sora. Don't know why yet.
Riku on the other hand fights his way up after Sora. He meets up with the King and he helps him. At the end Riku defeats an image of Ansem. After he wins he relizes he is neither totally light or dark, he's "in between. which makes him unique" Riku finds Sora sleeping in his bubble then decides to go of with the King to do stuff.
Hope that helps, it's been a while since I played, so things might be a little off, but generally that's what happened.

I finally started this game. I bought this the week it came out, but didn't want to start it because I wanted to beat another game I was working on. (MGS 3)
So far about 4 hours in, the game is really enjoyable. I don't nearly have as much problems with the camera in regular battles and boss battles than I did in the first Kingdom Hearts (which I never finished). I really like that you can control the camera via the analog stick, which makes exploring a whole lot easier. I didn't find myself using it too much during combat, just to straighten the camera when I had it at a weird angle.
Hope the game continues to be enjoyable in the next handful of hours.

Jalu6 - I beat it at level 72.
It took me 45 minutes to level up from level 70 - 99, using the level up trick. If you really wanted to blaze through the game you could do this trick pretty early.
I've done all the missions except 3. The "poster job" in Twilight Town is being the biggest pain. Sephiroth was hard, and it was fun playing him and learning his patterns. Infact it felt like the only real challange in the game.
After playing the enitre game inside out I'd give it a 9/10. Great game, can't wait for KH3.

After beating Pride Lands the second time, equip Jackpot and Gullwing and go into critical health. Head to the Pride Rock Peak and you'll see those Bee Heartless everywhere, spam Magnega and gather all the MP Balls you can see. After all are defeated, simply exit the area and re-enter, they all instantly respawn.

I haven't gotten to the point to use the leveling trick yet, but I like that if I am ever down a level or two, I can run through a world and gain in a 1/2 hour or so. I'm used to WoW, so I forgot how easy it was to gain levels in these types of games.
Just can't wait to finish these disney worlds so I can see what happens with the main story...

minus the people who used the Pride Rock leveling up method, to anyone who has beaten the game, what level did you end up at? lots of level grinding?

So...I'm missing one of the pages to 100 Acre Wood. Anyone want to be nice and tell me where to find the last page? (people who have the guide I mean or people that know).
I am missing the page that lets me access teh bottom right side of the book.

Does anyone know if there's somewhere to download the cutscenes/story elements from this game so I don't have to finish it? I really don't feel like mashing X for another ten to fifteen hours, but would love to see what happens.

I beat it at 72. After I beat it I went back and did the trick.

Is it really more than 50 hours? I'm at 15 hours and I just started Agrabah.

It took me between 30 and 35 hours to beat KH2, but didn't do all of the optional boss battles or any serious leveling.

I forgot what order they came but here they are:
1 Crystal Fissure at Hollow Bastion
2 Oasis in the Pride Lands
3 Throne Room in The Land of Dragons
4 Library at Disney Castle
5 Tower in Aggrabah

I got to The World That Never Was at like level 40. Xaldin kept kicking my ass. I went and leveled up to 64 and then beat the game. I still have to level up some more though because pretty much the only thing left for me to do is beat Sephiroth and he is no joke.

thanks for all the responses. I was wondering what was normal to be at when you get to the end of the game.
I'm about 12 1/2 hours in, Level 21 and I just finished Timeless River. Still having a blast with this game. I have a feeling I may put a lot of time into the game because of all the leveling up you can do for the summons and the drive forms.

I'm at level 50 on Proud Mode and at the very very end. I am fighting the final boss right now.

more questions,
1. After beating Argabah the first time I went to Twilight Town, Space Paranoids, and then Hollow Bastion. Ran into the roadblock which was Demynx. Is it too late to go back and try Halloween Town? Wasn't sure if I was supposed to go there after Argrabah.
2. Is the Ultima Weapon really important to have to finish the game? Also are there only 7 Orichalcum+ in the entire game?

1. You can still go back, for some reason they lock up during mid game, but you can get back to them. Although you have to do the Gummi Ship levels over again. But they don't open back up till after the events at Hollow Baistion.
2. No, I beat it without it the first time. I'm not sure about the Orichalcum+, but I don't think they're hard to miss. If you're haveing trouble finding materials to make Ultima Weapon, you can always get Fefnir, it's stronger than Ultima Weapon, but lacks a bit in magic. You get Fefnir when you beat Sephiroth, which is easier said than done.

Yes, there are only 7 Orichalcum+ in the game. You have to use an Energy crystal to halve the amount of materials needed in the synthesis process. The energy crystals are dropped by shaman in the Pride Lands.

Just beat the Pride Lands (revisited) and now I'm just spending some time leveling up at Pride Rock. I am just doing it normally and beating all the heartless at the top of that peak without the Gullwing. Yea it'll take longer but oh well, I'm not in a hurry to finish the game. I only have a couple more worlds to beat I think. My party is around Level 52/53, I'd like to sometime in the near future take on Sephiroth.

So my wife surprised me with this game for my birthday this weekend. I have never played the first game, and hadnt played a Square rpg since FFVII. Very interesting so far. I was bored at first, in the first couple hours, but the game picked up once I left Twilight town. To be honest I was gonna give up after the first 2-3 hours, but I played it longer cos I wanted the Wife to see that I was into the present she got me, and Im glad I did.

I tried doing this last night after I beat Pride Lands second time, but I'm failing miserably. I think my magic is way too weak (in the low 30's) and it took me about 1/2 hour just to gain 3 levels. I get get the bees grouped together, but then after I dont kill enough to make the MP balls drop to refill my magic. I keep having to wait. I'm lvl 48 and on my way to second Space Paranoids...
Should I just give up for now, get to the last level and then try again when my magic is stronger? How can I power up my magic? I heard there was a synth recipe, but I don't have it yet...

Good decision to keep playing, I was getting kinda bored also during the first couple of days with Roxas as the lead character. Eventually the action picked up and it was much better from there.

Finallly got around to beating the main storyline last night. About 32 hours at lvl 55.
If you are really into the story, I would suggest blocking off about a 3-4 hour time period and completing the final caslte at once. A LOT of plot happens once you enter Twighlight Town after your second run though the worlds, and I think it helps if you go through it all at once.

I beat the game last week. Clocking in at around 48-50 hours and Jiminy's Journal ending at 89%. My final level was 99, as I spent countless hours hacking and slashing at the Pride Lands. I didn't level up a lot of my forms and never acquired the final form.
The ending wasn't great, but the ending battle was fantastic. Loved every second of it. I saved right before the last boss so I will probably go back and try to level up all my different forms, hopefully getting the final form.
....and no I didn't beat Sephiroth :( so hard.
I really enjoyed this game, which is surprising to me because I absolutely hated the first game.

That's what it really felt like to me. The very first thing I thought when the first armored guy popped on screen was "Holy crap, that's a Dragoon!". The art style of the three armored people was very Vana'diel and
Ivalice. (I'm unsure as to who they should be though. It seemed like the armor on one of them was a little feminine, and the three keyblades in the sand were obviously Sora's, Riku's and either Mickey's or Kairi's. That suggests to me that it's Sora, Riku and
