View Full Version : ShadowGate: Anyone remember this game?

I know it's probably not a popular game, as it's not a game for everyone, but sometimes I'd just like to break away from bashing enemies and play something challenging (from a strategic viewpoint). My question is, Is there another installment of this game, or at least something similar?. I'd like to play it again, preferably on something other than the 64, but I'd really like a sequal or something similar, with NO enemies, just strategy, strategy, strategy. I'd prefer something on consoles over PC but any reccomendations would help.

Deja Vu was very similar in gameplay. It was popular enough to warrant a sequel which was canned due to the end of the NES.
There was a Shadowgate 64 but I believe it was not in the same style as the original. Which is just as well because I heard it was pretty bad.

Yeah, the 64 version was bad from what I've heard. I dunno, shadowgate is an awsome game though.

Both the original and sequel to Deja Vu are available on a GBC release. Fun stuff.

Besides Deja Vu, there was another NES game that used the same interface, called "The Uninvited". It was set in a spooky mansion and had a horror theme. I always felt that it had more in common with Shadowgate than Deja Vu did, but both are cool.

If you have a Pocket PC or Palm check this out:

I picked up the Pocket PC version of Shadowgate Classic a while back when it was on sale for around $10.
Improved graphics, plus the stylus helps things out quite a bit. However, I did find that the stylus wasn't as accurate as I'd like.

I loved that game back in the days. I did pick up Deja Vu for the GBC a few years back, and it was excellent as well. Shadowgate 64 was okay, but I'm glad I picked it up.

I loved Shadowgate. The only problem was that it was designed in such a way that you could completely screw yourself and not be able to finish (b/c you could only cross that one bridge three times total). The music actually creeped me out a little the first time I played it (in my basement in the dark at midnight - ah the good old days :) )
I was gonna mention Deja Vu and The Uninvited, but I see I was beat to it.
