I've never owned a gamecube and am interested in buying the revolution. After seeing the pressconfernces and reading the information it seems that revolution will be the least powerful system by far. Since this is the case, how much do you think Revolution will cost at launch? I think Nintendo should launch at $150 in March of next year. Xbox 360 and PS3 will be at least $300 at launch so to compete hopefully Nintendo will launch at this price with a lot of great games and great extras.

$250-$300? I'm gonna take an educated guess and say it'll be cheaper then the others. Also, since it was mentioned it's 2-3 times the gamecube, meaning it's somewhat not on par with 360 or ps3, I'm sure it'll cost cheaper to make too.

$200 is my guess. Hasn't that been the starting price of every console Nintendo has ever made?

I would think around 200 as well, as that's how much gamecube was at launch, and the Revolution doesn't seem to be a system of such insane tech that it would need a higher cost

Do you think that Nintendo will sell to the mainstream at $200? I'm sure Nintendo fans will grab the system, but with xbox 360 and ps3 being more powerful and taking a majority of the press it seems like Nintendo is going to have to do more to grab attention. When Sony and Microsoft talk about the next generation they rarely even mention Nintendo. Nintendo is going to need a figurative media nuclear bomb to go off to win the next generation or at least not be in 3rd place again. It seems like they are on the right road (backwards compability, free online service, downloadable classics) but they will need mario, zelda, metroid and new ip at launch. Also new versions of classic NES games like Kid Icarus would be welcome. At $200 though it still seems like it might be a bit much for a system that will be much weaker than the systems it's competing with.

$200, $250. Nintendo can't afford to even try and compete with the PS3/360 in terms of price, so I'm sure it won't go near $300 unless Nintendo pulls a miracle and wows us with something new.

I would like to point out that Nintendo has always been conservative with their system performance estimates. Remember Nintendo's estimte of 10-12 million polygons for the GameCube Vs. Sony's supposed 75 for the PS2 and Microsoft's 150 for the Xbox?
Anyways, unless Nintendo goes all out on performance, I'm going to say it'll be about $200.

DVD players are a lot cheaper to make than 4 years ago so it should bring the price up that much, but we still dont know what make the system revolutionary. there is something else ninendo hasnt told us and for that we need to wait and see.

For DVD playback you will have to buy an add-on much like the Xbox 1.
I think the whole "download retro games" thing is cool. :)

Kinda an off topic but...
I was talking to my friend today who actually use to work for Nintendo up in Redmond & he said that when Nintendo drops the price on it's consoles they DON'T compinsate the retailers the difference, they just tell them to drop it. I know microsoft compinsated retailers the difference when the Xbox made it's drops.

i'm just curious, but with everything we don't already know about the revolution, how can you possibly make the accusation? it plays dvd's, what more do you people want?

Ah, I didn't see that you beat me to it regarding DVD add-on.
Anyways, I'm wondering if we will be able to download third party games like Chrono Trigger? Also Ninty said their first party (I guess second party falls into this category too) games will be free online multiplayer, but its up to the third parties to charge or not. Does this mean that the third party games won't use the same Nintendo Wifi Connection thing, and will have to have its own stuff?

I'm guessing $199.99. Nintendo can afford to take a loss on the system because they are going to be RAKING IT IN on the "download NES, SNES, and N64 games" feature.

at most they will sell it at even break. This isnt MS here. You can bet that whatever they decide, it will be fair and it will slightly lower than the competition. Really, they probably havent decided that, there are still plenty of events between now and then that will effect that final decision.

We all are assuming, hence the question in the thread title. ;)
I would truthfully rather not have my Revolution play DVDs, as the players go so cheaply these days I wouldn't even use my system for DVD use.

That seems reasonable to me. I'm expecting a 250 price point, with a drop of 200 at the first christmas.
-Edit isn't the PS3 supposed to retail for about 470 in Japan?

im assuming you talking about a $15 dollar remote control right?
its not a serparte device...all you needed was a remote control to use the DVD player. and im sure that what will happen with revolution. since all controllers will be wireless.

nintendo gamecube had the least expensive console with some quality games to back it up at launch (without online of coarse but there werent any online game by microsoft at launch either if i remember correctly)
so low price doesnt mean high sales
i believe nintendo has the best software but thats not enough
history repeats itself and i love the Big N but i feel they will suffer 3rd place again this next generation (not that thats a bad thing, nintendo will always have a huge following just not as big as its competitors)

I couldn't see much more above a $200-250 price tag if Nintendo is trying to appeal to the everyman.
With PS3 rumored to be about $450 in Japan, it could see a loss in sales the same way PSP did -- "Wow, this system is really cool! I'll take one, how much? WHAT?!?!? Fuck this."

Go buy a Gamecube right now. You can find one with 2 controllers and a game for less than $100. It's just insanity to like video games and not to own a Gamecube. INSANITY!!!!!!!

That's my guess as well. As usual, I'm sure there will be a price drop within the first year or so. I see a lot of people guessing $200 though, I'd love it if it was that price, especially since the PS3 is going to be pretty expensive for awhile.

Just curious, but where? I know the MarioKart bundles they had around Christmas time offered this, but those things are extremely hard to find anymore. If I can get a Cube with two controllers and a game for less than $100, I might pick it up for my fiance'.

I'm really digging the Revolution. From everything that we've all been reading, the best thing for me so far is the backward compatibility, because I have a fairly sizable GC library.
If the Revolution is both a home console, and a portable unit at the same time; with a built-in LCD touch-screen on one side, then I'll be in gaming heaven.
But, to be fair to myself this time around, I am going to wait until I've seen what all three are offering before going onboard. I tend to invest heavily in everything I have a passion for, time and money wise, so next gen better have what I want, or deliver more than what we expect. Translation, no more empty promises, or unsupported features.
