What do you guys think Sony will do as far as the console launch. Previously they have always launched in Japan well ahead of a US launch. Now, with Xbox 360 coming out already well ahead, it seems like the smart thing for Sony to do would be a simultaneous release in both the US and Japan. Granted, Sony has a far more dedicated following in Japan, but delaying the release here would only serve to further strengthen Xbox 360's already early hold on the US Market. Any ideas ?

would sony have enough system for simultaneous release? It wont be the first time a Japanese system is release in US first (NDS).

Hey, even if they did a launch in each country at the same time Microsoft already stated it will do the funniest thing of coming out with Halo 3 the same day. I would think if they were smart they would stick to what worked for them in the past and just come out with the PS3 in Japan first then in the US.

It would actually be very unlikely for sony to release in two major markets like that at the same time. Just think they'd need millions of units for that not only of systems but of games and any other extra peripheral hardware to make all this would need months more for production which might force them to rush.

The last thing Sony needs to do is rush, they need to take their time and do things right. MS are the people who "need" to launch now, Sony's already number one this generation so the XB360's launch is to try and get a head start on profitting first so they can control the price of the next generation systems and try to do to sony what they did to themby lowering system prics before they can make a profit on the PS3.

The assumption though would be that they can get more people to buy their system at launch than those that wait for either of the other two systems by launching first. Considering how slow the japanese were to accept the first xbox I have a feeling they'll probably give this one much of a cold shoulder too. So sony would be in no rush to launch there too quickly, North america though might be a different question which means they could try to shorten the launch window between the US and japan (japan being the first) as much as possible.

Silmultaneous though? No way.

Maybe I am just being hopeful and trying to justify it. I got tired of waiting for my PSP when it was going around in Japan and I know it will be the same for the PS3. The Xbox360 will hold me over till it comes out here but I would much rather it be sooner than later.

It should come out everywhere at the same time.

If they plan on releasing it in march of next year, as speculated, then I would wait to release it in america untill the holiday season. The psp sold well here in the us, but it could have been a lot better if it were around the holiday season. They didn't seem to mind that sega had a headstart, and I doubt they will change.

Sony decimated interest in Sega's machine before launch with their demos, the promise of BWC and DVD playback built in, thats why they didn't mind. This time around sony still has an edge in consumer loyalty but it's only a slight one so they might push it up a couple of months, the only factor helping them this time around is that the 360's MTV unveiling was craptacular and the E3 showing didn't do much to help rectify that impression.

If they want to maintain PS3 interest they need to show something closer to a real game rather than a tech demo, this will rebuild confidence and draw in more potential buyers.
