The haircuts, not alcohol-induced buzzes. I just got my head shaved (with a 2 guard for now, not bald). Anyway, I want to do it myself at home from now on since it has to be done every week. What shavers/kits do you guys use? Any words of advice?

I shave my head with no clip every three weeks using a standard hair cutting cut I bought at Save-on (or somewhere like that). Nothing special really but it gets the job done.

My wife royally messed my hair up last night. Needless to say, I'm now sporting a 1-guard buzzed head.
I actually kinda like it, though. I usually shave it once every few month. Then again, I am in the military, so it's kinda the norm around here.

Do they give you free cuts on base, or do you actually have to pay each time?

It takes 1 to 2 hours to shave my head(leaving no guard on top, shaving with a razor halfway down, leaving a fade). I always use 2 mirrors, a big body mirror and a handheld mirror to shave the backside of my head, so I can cover the spots that I missed.

Takes me about 20 minutes to make it perfect. There's nothing to it. Just run the lil' bastard over each spot of your head and you're good.

I'll get my wife to do at least the back, if not the whole thing. So any old shaver is pretty much fine? I was mostly wondering about what to buy to do this with,.

Hell no, they aren't free. We have to pay about $6 or $7 for the world's worst hair cut. Seriously. At first, it looks like they did a good job until you take a shower, dry your hair and notice that you have patches of hair they didn't cut.
I only go there when I need to save money. I usually go to Pro-Cuts, but the wife had a bright idea to buy a $60 razor set. But she only gives slightly better hair cuts than the people on base do.
Needless to say after yesterday's turn of events, that woman will not be touching my hair ever again. I'll pay my $10 at Pro-Cuts from now on.

when i was little, my mother used to cut my hair....one time she was cutting behind my ear with scissors and snipped half way through my earlobe....some women just shouldn't be aloud to touch scissors

If you want to actually get a good razor, go for a Peanut brand. Yes, it sounds pretty gay and might be a bit more expensive, but they are actually very good razors. The one my mom used while we grew up is probably going on 10 years and the thing is running just as good as the day she bought it.

Wahl is a good brand they have been around forever. I use one that is black and has no name brand on it. I had my barber order it for me. I have had the same barber for 20 years, and I use it in between haircuts to clean up my neck and around my ears. I still go to the barber and pay 15 for a haircut. so what I am saying is just ask you barber to order you one they might you never know.

wahl is good, maybe too good. i do a no gaurd all around my head, or bald. its so good that it cuts you if you put the buzzers to close to the skin, like where you got a mound or a wrinkle on your head. wahls are the best when it comes to buzzers, you can get a nice one for 50 bucks.

That's what I used when I kept it short, does a good enough job. Though I never went lower than a 2 guard.

Thanks for the replies. We picked up a Wahl kit for about $20 bucks at Walmart last night, so we'll see how it goes this weekend. Man, they had about 20 different kits, and they all looked the same.
